Lol'd Kobe had most of his 50 point games against scrubs while the legend had most of them against playoff teams. Why was Jordan so good. Only if Kobe was twice as good we could have had another Jordan. Kobe is like Jordan but only half as good.

jordan had most of them before he was 32. he had 34 before the age of 32, 5 after.

these are the ones he had after the age of 32:

the double nickel against the knicks in 1995
a regular season game versus the pistons in 1996
a regular season game versus the heat in 1996
a regular season game versus the knicks in 1997
a playoff game versus the bullets in 1997

oh well, see who's talking about insecurity,

why not show all the games they played in their career?

The fact that Kobe is still playing even gives him advantage.
Do you see people taking out MJ's wizards years, did people whine about the 2 years that MJ took of his prime at age 31-32? did they bug about him being injured in his second season?

NO, please stop the selective bias, look at the whole package and stop making excuses.

If you are to compare careers, talk about a player's career. Not half a career or his "career" that supports your agenda.

Yes...and MJ also played most of his career in a completly differnt era when talking about defense and FG%...

This is the list of guards/small forwards who shot over 50% and had 20+ PPG during MJ's era(1985-1998).

Michael Jordan - 6 times
Chris Mullen - 6 times
Adrian Dantley - 4 times
Kiki Vandewedge - 4 times
Reggie Miller - 3 times
James Worthy - 3 times
Alex English - 3 times
Dale Ellis - 3 times
Magic Johnson - 2 times
Penny Hardaway - 2 times
Kevin Johnson - 2 times
Clyde Drexler - 2 times
Cedric Ceballos - 2 times
Mark Aguirre - 2 times
Gary Payton - once
Byron Scott - once
Rolando Blackman - once
Walter Davis - once
Jeff Hornacek - once
Otis Birdsong - once
Jeff Malone - once
George Gervin - once
Drazen Petrovic - once
Reggie Lewis - once
Derek Smith - once
Scottie Pippen - once

And here is the list of guards/small forwards who shot over 50% and had 20+ PPG during the post-Lockout era(2000-2010).

Lebron James - once
Chris Paul - once
Tony Parker - once
Monta Ellis - once
Shawn Marion - once

So in MJ's era it was done 56 times by 26 different players.

In the last 11 years, it has been done only 5 times by 5 different players.

here are the league averages for all the years MJ shot over 50%.

88' - 48%
89' - 47.7%
90' - 47.6%
91' - 47.4%
92' - 47.2%

And here are the league averages in the post-MJ era.

00' - 44.9%
01' - 44.3%
02' - 44.5%
03' - 44.2%
04' - 43.9%
05' - 44.7%
06' - 45.4%
07' - 45.8%
08' - 45.7%
09' - 45.9%
10' - 46.1%

so looking at this MJ's and Kobe's FG% is marginal at best.

also......TS% difference in both players is 1.7%:confusedshrug:

:wtf: you are as studip as your boyfriend griffmoney, get out of this thread, you have no basketball knowledges.

first, this is not a competition of who will have the most 50pts games.
MJ missed one year and half of his prime, and still manage to get 33 50pts game before he is 32yo.

He actually missed another year of his prime with a injury that he suffered in his second season. That's the year he had that 60 point game against the celtics and the following season he averaged 37 ppg. Who knows what he could've put up that season.

How Kobe stans don't like MJ ??

i mean, MJ the original, Kobe the copy, he spent his entire life trying to copy the GOAT. why don't you like "the same type of player" quoting an standart ISH ignorant ?

Why are you using FG% when kobe attempted triple the amount of threes?:oldlol: No shit his floor percentage is worse than jordan's when he's taking longer shots that are worth more. Scale it for points per possesion(eFG), or even more in depth with free throws incorporated(TS) and jordan is only ahead of kobe by 1-2% max.. This is because kobe was a better three point shooter and FT shooter than jordan(he's a better shooter overall than jordan). If you don't put their playstyles into context these stats mean nothing.

It's jordans fault kobes shot selection is crap right? They have the same playing style except Jordan took shots from where he wanted to, not with 10 hands in his face 10 feet behind the three point line.

Why does Kobestan's even try? Pick a fight against another SG and perhaps Kobe can become the 2nd best SG ever.

Too bad, the universal basketball GOAT happened to take form as a SG. Poor Kobe.

Kobe sacrificed his scoring because of Shaq and it's a pitty because once Shaq was out, Kobe was crazy.
No doubt in my mind Kobe would have much more than 39 50 pt games if he didn't play 8 years with Shaq. Too bad. Would've been cool to see some more 70 pt, 80 pt games....he was capable of doing it as well. He can be streaky and inconsistent with shooting when he catches fire...there's pretty much nothing he can't score. I'm positive Kobe would'e had like 3 80 pt games if he didn't spend his physical prime playing with Shaq.

I hope people realize that 50 is just an arbitrary number, just like all other basketball stat phenonem such as the triple double. What if someone got 30/15/8? would it be less impressive than a 10/10/10 game? Is 49 that much less than 50? What if kobe had more 49+ games and Jordan had more 50+ games?

pegasus
03-23-2011, 01:53 PM
Yes...and MJ also played most of his career in a completly differnt era when talking about defense and FG%...

This is the list of guards/small forwards who shot over 50% and had 20+ PPG during MJ's era(1985-1998).

Michael Jordan - 6 times
Chris Mullen - 6 times
Adrian Dantley - 4 times
Kiki Vandewedge - 4 times
Reggie Miller - 3 times
James Worthy - 3 times
Alex English - 3 times
Dale Ellis - 3 times
Magic Johnson - 2 times
Penny Hardaway - 2 times
Kevin Johnson - 2 times
Clyde Drexler - 2 times
Cedric Ceballos - 2 times
Mark Aguirre - 2 times
Gary Payton - once
Byron Scott - once
Rolando Blackman - once
Walter Davis - once
Jeff Hornacek - once
Otis Birdsong - once
Jeff Malone - once
George Gervin - once
Drazen Petrovic - once
Reggie Lewis - once
Derek Smith - once
Scottie Pippen - once

And here is the list of guards/small forwards who shot over 50% and had 20+ PPG during the post-Lockout era(2000-2010).

Lebron James - once
Chris Paul - once
Tony Parker - once
Monta Ellis - once
Shawn Marion - once

So in MJ's era it was done 56 times by 26 different players.

In the last 11 years, it has been done only 5 times by 5 different players.

here are the league averages for all the years MJ shot over 50%.

88' - 48%
89' - 47.7%
90' - 47.6%
91' - 47.4%
92' - 47.2%

And here are the league averages in the post-MJ era.

00' - 44.9%
01' - 44.3%
02' - 44.5%
03' - 44.2%
04' - 43.9%
05' - 44.7%
06' - 45.4%
07' - 45.8%
08' - 45.7%
09' - 45.9%
10' - 46.1%

so looking at this MJ's and Kobe's FG% is marginal at best.

also......TS% difference in both players is 1.7%:confusedshrug:

I'd never paid attention to this poster before (not intentionally), but he does have a point here. Still, MJ > Kobe, though.

I'd never paid attention to this poster before (not intentionally), but he does have a point here. Still, MJ > Kobe, though.
The only thing is that I wouldn't trust that poster cause he lies by misleading. For example, I randomly picked Reggie Miller, he only shot 50% a couple of times in his career, so because of that he goes under the criteria he made up. He lies by misleading, the same way Griffmoney now tries to crow bar in that he's been watching the NBA since his 11, ever since I started calling him out that he said that he's 26 and has been watching since he was 20.

There were 84 50 point games from the 2000s, here's a link, can you name them.

What ever makes you feel better so you can sleep.....

Jordan was 38 (younger then Grant Hill is now)....

Jordan was a 42 - 45% shooter in the modern era....

Kobe's career = 45 FG%    you just shot your own leg.

...simple question..."why don't you just show how many MJ had at the similar age"...Kobe aint scoring 50 playing 15 minutes a game at 18 - 19 years old.

:facepalm @ Jordan stans

But yet you still fail to use games played, Kobe has already played more games and more games in the playoffs.....so by your standard let's use 1089 Games for Kobe and less then 700 for MJ then compare:facepalm .... this is why Kobehomers are retarded, they need to remove career accomplishments, stats, and now seasons and games, from other players and come up with some hypothetical garbage

jordan doesnt have a case if you want to compare scoring ability, call me when jordan comes close 81 points or 62 in three quarters

Call me when Kobe actually has one of these outbursts in the playoffs

Hey AlphaDouche. During Jordan's era most players had gone to college 3-4 years and were more seasoned shooters. Now there are more teams, more...bad players making teams, and definitely more underclassmen who don't have the fundamentals down pat.

Difference is, in all of MJ's 50 point games, he was being guarded by guys like this:

Again Jordan played against 6 Perimeter DPOY, Kobe 1:roll: that same one Jordan lit up at 39yoa for 19 straight 2nd Quarter points, finished with 29 and scored his 30k point on, nice try oh by the way, perimeter rule changes lead to this type of perimeter D

Kobe held to 41% shooting by the 6'3 Eric Snow:roll:

John Starks Bagged Grocery's in Oklahoma before getting a call to come guard Jordan...then stuck his bag of almonds on his chin....Watered down 90's one of the worst era's of basketball...IMO below the 1980's and the 2000's...especially in talent pool and skill.

You can fxxk 3 times a day when you are 20s, 3 times a week when you are 30s, 2 times a month when you are 40s. Do you know why?:D

Tim Grover, who has trained Kobe, Lebron, and Jordan, was asked who would win a 1-on-1 battle of Jordan vs. either of the other two:
Tim Grover: "Oh, Michael. No question. From a physical and mental standpoint, he's the best I've ever seen. If he were playing now, with the way the refs call everything, and with all the padding these guys wear, he'd average 40 or 50 a night if he wanted."

I'd never paid attention to this poster before (not intentionally), but he does have a point here. Still, MJ > Kobe, though.

No, there's a massive problem. He's using FG%, which includes 3-point shots. FG% dropped because people took way more 3's -- people like Kobe -- but the rate of scoring remained the same because 3-point shots, you know, count 1.5x more than 2-point shots.

The reality is the ORtg from 1988-1993 and from 2006-2010 are quite similar:

88 108.0
89 107.8
90 108.1
91 107.9
92 108.2
93 108.0

06 106.2
07 106.5
08 107.5
09 108.3
10 107.6
11 107.2

This myth that there is super difference in scoring environment between this two periods is utterly bogus and completely unsubstantiated. Many perimeter player season-records were set after rule changes in 2005 freed up perimeter player movement.

why dont u morons compare brons to this? EVERY1 looks bad next to jordan. none of us kobe fans think kobe is the goat. we're hoping for t5.

also can we see the 40 pt games or does that not fit your agenda

This might answer your question: http://elgee35.wordpress.com/2011/02/12/variance-volume-and-elite-wings-part-ii/

(Also note 7 of the 9 players on that list at the top of the post are from the 2000s, not the 80s or 90s.)

yep, thats because of the rule changes. It is amazing how much easier the rule changes made it to score for perimeter players
