When I liked Wrestling back when I was younger in the 90's (now it's retarded), I always admired Wrestlers that could be entertaining with awful gimmicks. Guys like Val Venis and Disco Inferno. A porn star and a disco guy? Really? And yet, they were pretty solid guys to have on your shows.

There was a guy in the WWF for a time who looked like a wannabe Papa Shango. Name escapes me but he sucked.

Reverend D-Von was one of the worse, well the WWF breaking up the Dudley Boys was terrible.
And was someone hating on Val Venis and Disco Inferno, those dudes are classics.

I liked Prime Val Venis and Disco Inferno started as a joke and actually became a pretty entertaining wrestler.
Blue Meanie has to be in this and the BWO has to be mentioned if there ever is a worst stable thread. :oldlol:

I miss gimmicks and catchphrases. They're completely missing from WWE now. Out of the new guys how many actually have gimmicks? John Morrison, Miz, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Shaemus etc...they have personalities yes (some of them at least) but nobody has actual GIMMICKS anymore. Before even the lower/mid card guys had them.
Godfather = pimp
Val Venis = Porn Star
Big Bossman = Security Guard
Also the catchphrases are what I especially miss.
"Do you smell what the rock is cookin?"
"I got 2 words for ya"
"Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls children of all ages..."
"It's time, once again, for everybody to come aboard the HOOOOO TRAIN!"
"Rest in peace"
"Have a nice day!"
"And that's the bottom line, cuz Stone Cold said so"
"Hellooooooo ladies"
"Who's NEXT?"
"Hey yo..."
"I'm the best there is, the best there ever was and the best there ever will be"
"Oh it's true, it's true"
"Welcome to RAW IS JERICHO"
"Hulkamania is runnin wild"
"Everyone has a price!"
Now there's
"I'm the Miz, and I'm AWESOME"
anymore? Nope :oldlol:
Now it's pretty much just regular guys who are wrestlers. before it was characters

Gangrel still wrestles in the independent circuit, but WWE had to cut him due to weight problems. Dude got fat.
The Brood and Gangrel was a great gimmick though. The Attitude Era had some great gimmicks along with what WCW was doing as well.

Remember Mordecai? The guy that was supposed to come in and have some LONG huge feud with Undertaker and have a good vs. evil storyline? He had like 5 months worth of buildup videos for his debut then disappeared after a few weeks
http://pwa.wrestlingx.net/wrestlerimages/gallery/kevin_thorn2.jpg
But the WORST wrestler ever was Zack Gowen. That one legged kid who was like 120 pounds and hopped around yet they let him beat Big Show in a match. Then Brock Lesnar DECIMATED the kid and he disappeared

He was a teacher at Cardozo HS here in Queens I believe before he went to WWE. He had his mom call him in sick because he was wrestling in Japan. It was in the New York Post.
Worst gimmick IMO was Simon Dean.

When The Godfather turned into The Goodfather, I was extremely dissappointed. Not only because of the new gimmick, but because the old one was just fine. Bad idea to get rid of it. One of my favorite midcarders during that time.

Idk.
Some of the worse I saw back when I used to be into the WWF/WWE were:
- Kane's mask coming off. It was so ridiculous! He clearly had black paint on his face to resemble burns. And what happened next week? The "burns" were gone! :oldlol:
- Eugene, the mentally challenged wrestler. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
- The Undertaker going from "Deadman" to some "American Badass" role to suddenly going back to "Deadman."
And lastly,
- Muhammad Hassan (?). I think that was his name... He was the Muslim wrestler, who really wasn't Muslim in real life, and every time he did a promo stunt, it had something to do with terrorism, such as having masked men come into the ring and carry the Undertaker out.
I was ashamed to watch wrestling then, and I'd be ashamed to watch it now.
B-Low
03-26-2011, 12:59 PM
Kane kinda explained it was the burn "from the inside". :oldlol:
THAT was some of the dumbest shit they've ever done lol. I remember DX took Kane's mask off once and when they saw his face they almost threw up cuz the burns were so bad. Then Kane finally unmasks and we all see his horribly drawn on burns lol...Then the makeup dept decides they don't wanna do his burn makeup every week so he comes out and does an interview with JR where we find out that the burns were "all in his head" and never really existed...so apparently WE were all traumatized too and saw the burns in our minds :oldlol:
It was good from the start, then WWE had nothing to do with him.
The Eugene character always made me feel awkward as hell. Whenever he was on I would either turn it off or wince the entire time at how potentially offensive the next thing they do with him might be (and I LOVE offensive things, but retardation is always a danger zone for me)
I like the Biker Taker gimmick, especially during the "Big Evil" heel run.
I loved the whole American Bad Ass thing. I was actually mad when he went back to the deadman thing. Especially when he came back and his hair was still short lol

I think he had a great gimmick and was on his way to becoming the top heel in the business, but then Vince and the writers came up with some sort of terrorist angle and the fans and sponsors were offended by it. Dumb move on their part. Had they just stuck with Hassan, and his hatred of all the other WWE wrestlers, it would have worked well.

Pretty much everything WWE did from about 1990 to about 1996 was idiotic. Some notables: Papa Shango, Doink the Clown, Akeem the African Dream, IRS, The Repo Man, The Model, The Red Rooster, Tugboat, The Booty Man, The Gobbledy Gooker, and on and on. Is it any wonder buisness fell into the toilet?
Quite frankly, even The Undertaker's original gimmick as a zombie was idiotic, but somehow that caught on...
EDIT: Just realized that this is an old bumped thread and I repeated myself from last year. :oldlol:
