I'd like for them to prove me wrong, but I don't think VCU stands a chance against Kansas. Morris twins are going to destroy their front court.

Florida, Kansas and Butler need to get out, quickly. Hate those teams, unfortunately two of 'em are playing against each other.

I'll be rooting for UConn, VCU and the Tar Heels.

My national title pick is still intact with Kansas and UConn. Got KU winning, of course.

Let me tell you how VCU will win right now:

Press like hell

Speed the tempo of the game up

Zone D in the half court

Make it rain from 3

Down goes Kansas!

You heard it here 1st!
VCU!

I had Ohio State winning it all. The only team I have left is Connecticut, and I had them going out in the Final Four against Ohio State :facepalm

VCU
kentucky

butler knows how to win games.
kemba walker is going to be too much for arizona.
VCU pulls the major upset.
kentucky seems to be clicking at the right time, and as for unc, a hot game(vs marquette) is always followed by a very cold game.

I still can't decide if I think Florida is a legitimate Final Four team, or if they're just the benefactor of an incredibly weak region. If Butler doesn't start hitting some threes on offense and getting some stops on defense, they're going to lose this one by double digits.

Coach calls a timeout at 4:03 and then there's an official timeout at the next stoppage, etc.

At least in the NBA, a team timeout nullifies the next official timeout.

Williams for 3? He's so explosive and draws fouls so well that I would have gotten him the ball anywhere near the rim and let him go to work.

well people are saying after it happened what they should have done. uconn are the better team, so even if they made the shot they have a less than 50-50 shot at winning in OT, say they get a decent look from 2pt range, say a 50-50 shot, then they only have a 25% chance of winning the game by taking that shot, and i think either of those 3s were better than 25% chance of going in

sorry aboout the numbers, just estimations imo

Lamb's wingspan is reportedly 7'4"(!).

Ridiculous for a guy that's 6'4", maybe 6'5".

He's got a smooth mid range game and is very disruptive defensively as well. Might be better than his counterpart at Kentucky.

Kentucky will need Liggins to lock up Barnes if they want to win this game. Kendall Marshall vs. Brandon Knight should be a lot of fun to watch.

How's Harrelson going to hurt UNC? Most of his offense comes off of broken plays and put backs. He only does well against teams without shot blockers like Louisville and OSU. Henson is one of the best and longest shot blockers in the NCAA and Zeller can alter Harrelson's shots pretty easily at the rim as well. No one on Kentucky can defend Zeller's hook shot over his left shoulder. Henson is one of the few guys that can effectively defend Jones.

Harrelson is big and plays hard and rebounds...All he has to do is play good defense and play hard and those broken plays and garbarge points will be there. Also if anyone is gonna bother Henson it will be Harrelson do to his pure size and height....All he has to do is sit on that left shoulder and make him show something else(I not sure there is anything else).

I actually think Jones has a huge advantage on Henson tbh...Henson is going to be forced into foul trouble if Jones attacks the rim. I think that people are going to be surprised at how well Kentucky's big men play.

On top of what Grinder said...

Terrence Jones against UNC back in December with John Henson guarding him...

3/17 FG
0/3 3P
9 points
6 rebounds

Now, I'm not saying Henson will shut him down again, but Henson did an excellent job on Jones when these two teams played earlier in the year. And yes, I know Kentucky is a completely different team now than they were in December, but you still can't ignore the fact that Henson completely shut Jones down in the first match-up.

I think Harrelson is a much better player now, than he was in December, but he can only guard one of Zeller or Henson. Calipari would be insane to not put him on Zeller. If he doesn't, Zeller will abuse whoever else Kentucky tries to guard him with. I think UNC poses match-up problems on offense but so does Kentucky. I expect a pretty tight game.

14ts aint nothing but 1 big run out of halftime. And VCU hit their 3's first half. Can they do it 2nd half because outside of that? They've done nothing spectacular on the offensive end. KU guards remove their heads from their asses. Limit turnovers. We'll have a game.

really I guess it would be more spectacular if they were getting wide open 2 point jump shots? They are getting wide open looks from good offense and there bigs are finishing at the rim and getting fouled...If that isn't "spectacular" to you than fine...but it is enough to win games.

I can't see Harrelson defending Henson much in this game. He's the only guy who has any chance of defending Zeller and if he gets into foul trouble, Kentucky's in trouble.

Jones is more than capable of attacking the rim but seems to go through long stages of the game where he is content to throw up shots from the perimeter, especially if he's denied at the rim a few times early in the game. He's got a ton of talent but it's been proven that you can pretty much take him out of the game if he doesn't get into his rhythm.

8/9 from the FT line. Seven of those nine attempts have come from Skeen, who is 3/12 from the field. Sorry, but VCU wasn't doing anything real special on offense in the first half. They made a bunch of threes (not all of them were "wide-open") and played hard on defense. It was good basketball but nothing "special".

This tournament is about the coaches not the players. Age limit doesnt prevent this from happening.

Would a school like Butler ever make the Final Four two years in a row 15 years ago?

No way. And the big reason is because they have a similar level of talent to the teams they have played.

Between the four #1 seeds in the this tournament there are only two guys I would consider lotto-pick talent (Irving/Sullinger). Would the elite teams in the past have that little amount of top-tier talent?

The big reason why the coaches are making such a difference is because the teams' talent levels are fairly even.

I dont see how VCU talent is fairly even with Kansas. Definately wouldnt see how Butler/VCU talent is fairly even with the winner of UNC/Kentucky either.

Age rule would just keep kids in school longer to develop their talent more. But the talent will always side with the bigger schools. Kentucky lost how many players to the NBA? Then followed it up with another stellar class of blue chippers. Talent isnt close to even in my book.

Think of this Kansas team, who was a legitimate top 3 team all year long. There was no questioning they were arguably the best or second best team in the nation all season long.

Now, think back to their national championship team in '07-'08. How much more talented and better was that team than this Kansas team? I could be wrong, but that '08 team was on a completely different level than this Kansas team.

My point is, even though Kansas was a legit top 3 team all season long, they still aren't overly talented. There weren't any great teams in college basketball last year and there aren't any this year. Heck, outside of UNC in 2009, there probably weren't any that year, either.

There has been a HUGE talent drop-off in the last three years alone. Meaning, a team like Kansas and VCU are much closer in talent than they were 3+ years ago.

what's shocking about the teams in the final 4 are:

VCU were 18-5 and then struggled coming into march. they closed out the regular season with a 1-4 record in their last 5 games, and losing in the CAA championship.

Butler were 14-9 on Feb 3. they haven't lost since.

UConn were 17-2. then they went into a funk, going 4-7 in their last 11 games going into the big east tournament. since then, they haven't lost a game.

Kentucky haven't lost since feb 23rd (in OT vs arkansas). they've been on a hot streak.

UNC other than losing to duke twice, they haven't been beaten by another team since jan 16. that's impressive.

KG215

I hate to go all gloom and doom, but that may have been ballgame. Kentucky finally misses a three, but they get the rebound, Henson picks up his 4th foul, and Kentucky gets an old fashion three point play to make it an 11 point game.

It was a four point game and Barnes misses a wide-open three pointer. That would have cut it to one. Since then Kentucky has got going again. We may have missed our chance after Barnes missed that three pointer.

kentucky seems to be clicking at the right time, and as for unc, a hot game(vs marquette) is always followed by a very cold game.

I was 11 years old in 1998.

This feels real good. Thank you Deandre Liggins.

1. I can't be mad about the season. I never in a million years thought this UNC team was capable of getting this close to the Final Four, or even make the Elite Eight.

2. Kentucky shot the lights out today, and we had another stone cold three point shooting performance. That was the main difference in the game along with Henson getting three fouls in the first half taking him completely out of the game.

3. UNC was basically down to a 6.5 man rotation after Larry Drew quit and Reggie Bullock got hurt. A player of Justin Knox's ability wouldn't see the floor on a normal UNC team, and Justin Watts is essentially an invited walk-on on scholarship. Losing Bullock late in the season really hurt, because we lost one of our only players capable of getting hot from three.

4. I know it's just "hear-say" and rumors but, word is, Barnes and Henson are both coming back. I won't believe it until the deadline to declare has passed and neither one has said they're going pro. IF they both come back with Zeller, then UNC is going to be VERY loaded next year. We'll get Bullock back as well, and will be adding a top 5 player (James McAdoo 6'8" PF) and a top 15-20 player (P.J. Hairston, 6'5" SG) to the exact same team that was one game away from making the Final Four.

I tip my hat to Kentucky. They played a great game and were simply the better team.

true, but the game got a lot closer in the 2nd half. maybe if a couple of lucky breaks went marquette's way and unc missed more 3's, marquette has a chance.

UNC. wow. :applause:

It got closer in the 2nd half because UNC knew they had the game won, basically quit playing with any intensity, and Marquette came out playing with a ton of intensity because they had no option if they didn't want to get beat by 50.

Marquette shot their wad to cut it 14 (the closest they ever got) and UNC immediately killed that run with a quick 7-0 run of their own to push it back to 21.

UNC wasn't abnormally hot against Marquette. They forced a ton of turnovers and got any shot they wanted. I wish you'd quit acting like the Marquette blowout win for UNC was because UNC was "hot" and nothing else.

You don't hold a 45-15 lead at one point in the second half only because you're "hot".

this is calipari's 5th time in last 6 years making it to the elite eight, and this is going to the 2nd time advancing to the final four. i don't know if we should say this is good or not, knowing his background. :lol

His last two Final Four appearances have been cleared from the history books. Only a matter of time until we know if this one will be, or not.

However, going back to early February, Kentucky has easily been one of the five best teams in the nation. Them making the Final Four and possibly winning it all isn't a fluke. Take away a one-point overtime loss at Arkansas, and Kentucky is something like 12-0 in their last 12 games. They're still like 12-1 in their last 13.

people dogging the morris twins are off base here. i think they did a great job keeping kansas in the game. but they needed some outside shots to go in for them to get the game back to even.

"Our guys have done a phenomenal job of putting all the doubters aside, all the people that didn't believe in us, and going out to do their job."

VCU guard Joey Rodriguez counted one of Kansas' vaunted Morris twins -- Marcus or Markieff -- as one of those many doubters. During a pregame captains meeting with officials, Rodriguez said one of the brothers offered him some parting words: "The run ends here."

"We'll see," Rodriguez shot back.

I'd say it's well warranted.

Can't even say I'm suprised.

Unless the age-limit is raised another year or two, expect to see more VCU/Butler types making it far in the tournament. The top-levels teams are not nearly as talented as they were 15-20 years ago.

Parity reigns.

Don't blame it on the age limit. Heck, for the better part of three decades the best HS players were jumping straight to the pros.

Parity exists largely because of TV and the popularity of the tourney. Kids see programs on a regular basis that they would have never heard of 25 years ago. Instead of sitting on the bench for 3 years at UNC, UCLA, Kansas, etc, a talented player can go to Butler, Richmond, VCU, George Mason, etc, play right now, get on tv, and get exposure. Benfits the player and program, not to mention the viewer/fan. I've been watching this tournament since it was 24 teams. It's never been better.

He jumped into Miller, creating all the contact. It was a bad shot, he could have gotten better, the refs aren't going to bail you out.
