I'd take the sword though. You could probably do some serious damage with a well made katana even if you didn't know what the **** you were doing. Although you could probably really hurt yourself too.

Have you ever used a chainsaw? I have, and it's not an agile tool. The katana blade is faster, and if the two blades ever parry the katana will get an ugly notch...while the whole bladed chain edge is going to fly off of the saw, possibly into your own face. The chainsaw would cut through flesh more easily upon contact but it's not like the katana can't cut. The saw must be held with two hands the whole time, is unwieldy, and to use it in a fight with an armed opponent you'll have to throw out wild swings in order to have any real attack speed. The sword is the way to go.

It's not as simple and effective as you all are making it out to be. Actually pick one up and try swinging it. It's actually hard to be precise. And a collision with bat would send the sword flying.

Now, if the length of the sword is 1/2 or 3/4 of the bat, maybe we'll have a contest. I'll still take sword though.

A little different since the majority of anyone posed this question wouldn't have the experience of being attacked by both. So this is based soley on opinion. But if I said "easily" one animal, I'm about as ill-informed as any poster I'm refering to in this thread.

By my standpoint, the majority of people who've reponded as "easy" choice with the katana here has probably never used one.

I have used a sword, and though I admit, it would be the more common choice of a person who's not a weapons expert, it's not as "easy" as people are making it out to be. In fact if you don't hold it properly the chances of delivering a deathblow go way down.

There's a reason why police, crime orgs, martial artist refer to bats or bat like weapons as the most effective hand weapon of all-time.
