why do all of you feel the need to hate on something thats popular, when you clearly liked it before it became popular?

It is kinda funny how people will automatically jump up and declare they HATE something that's really popular.

Olive Garden is disgusting
Eminem isn't even top 20 all time
Any movie that made over $20 million at the box office is trash
Justin Beiber should die because girls like him
The Oscars/Grammys don't mean shit

The British version of ________ is 10 times funnier than the American one

Pretty much the popular consensus around these parts :oldlol:

but wait if its popular consensus does that mean they have to disagree with it?

The defining trait of a hipster isn't that they hate everything that's popular. It's that they stop liking something they once liked.. because it became popular.

A hipster may in fact hate everything that's popular. But someone who hates everything that's popular may not necessarily be a hipster.

Important distinction imo. lol.

It often isn't.
I like their garlic bread but I haven't been there in ages.
that's a bullshit statement that deserves a punching or two.
Plenty of great films that score well in the B.O.
I'm not sure how much they actually mean.
I rarely find a show that I like season 1 better. It logically doesn't work.
If the British show came first often times it's funnier since the American show is just trying to emulate it. Great example is of course the Office.

Family Guy isn't funny It's funny but the jokes are tired and overused and it survives primarily on gags.
Olive Garden is disgusting Not disgusting, but it has nothing on any decent Italian restaurant.
Eminem isn't even top 20 all time I don't get into rating these guys on a list but I do not think that he is even the best white rapper.
Any movie that made over $20 million at the box office is trash Not true but a movies budget is no indicator of the quality of the movie.
Justin Beiber should die because girls like him He should probably at least fade into obscurity on the basis that he is not a talented artist.
The Oscars/Grammys don't mean shit Nope.

but wait if its popular consensus does that mean they have to disagree with it?

1.) Family Guy can be funny depending on your mood and the particular episode.

2.) Unless I'm going to a top-notch Italian restaurant, I might as well make it at home... any above-average home cook with the proper supplies and motivation can whip up something comparable to Olive Garden.

3.) I don't listen to Eminem (nor do I really listen to Hip-Hop or Rap in general) but its hard to argue his place in music history, and its hard to argue his overwhelming critical and popular success.

4.) F*ck that noise. I can't wait for Transformers III.

5.) Quite frankly, If you don't listen to that kind of music, you really have very little place in that conversation. His music is not marketed towards the average ISH OTC member.... therefore there really is no reason for you to like his music/style/persona. One simply cannot argue against the Cash-Cow that is Bieber Fever.

6.) These mainstream award shows are representative of, for the most part, popular opinion. Not the popular opinion of a small group of people/fans.... but of popular opinion as a whole.

7.) Depends on the series. Quite frankly it applies to very few of my favorite series... including:

Always Sunny
The League
The Office
Park and Rec
Lost
Curb your Enthusiasm
Dexter

On a scale of 1-10.... how "Hipster" am I??

Like I said... anyone with the proper motivation and know-how can knock that shit OUT in their own kitchen.

How much did your dinner (or, more appropriately, a dinner for two) cost??

I guarantee for the same price, if not less, someone could recreate the same dish at home, with fresher ingredients in a more flavorful application.

But in my situation, if you give me $40 for an Italian dinner for two, I guarantee I'd put together something that is more fresh, better seasoned, and quite frankly more original, than what's on the menu at Olive Garden.

Only been to Olive Garden once. A few years ago. Wasn't bad for commercial processed food. I agree that it can be done better at home, but most people aren't fans of being in a kitchen for long periods of time and putting up with all that comes with it. I blame the microwave.

Threadstarter is on point. Only difference is Hipsters have lives. but the heathens on this forum who hate on everything popular, don't really have options to enjoy life or not.

Alot these mongrels that hate Drake and Wiz Khalifa, were the same ones that were sucking them off 1 year ago. I just hope the same don't happen to J. Cole. Its going to happen to Odd Future and Jay Electronica too.

Former "fan": I don't like Drake anymore
me: "why not"
FF: "I like his older songs before he went pop"
me: "you do realize he still make the same song"
FF: "he went poppy and stuff"
me: "can you elaborate"

Hipsters are usually douchebags who went through every phase. They were wearing whatever was popular in junior high, again in HS, they were punk, they were hood, they were ironic...

Now as young adults they hate all trends and follow the trend for those who 'hate' trends.

I think I will drive up to Silver Lake and punch as many skinny jean, plaid shirt wearing *******s as I can tomorrow right in their ironic mustache.

Last time I was to a Starbucks it was in Barcelona, and not only was it packed with local hipsters (Barcelona hipsters are particularly annoying for some strange reason), but it also seemed to gather every ****ing hipster tourist, from Americans to pretty much every european nationality, to asians. Last time I was to a Starbucks it was in Barcelona, and not only was it packed with local hipsters (Barcelona hipsters are particularly annoying for some strange reason), but it also seemed to gather every ****ing hipster tourist, from Americans to pretty much every european nationality, to asians. I almost had to hold my vomit. I'll be damned if I ever set foot on a Starbucks again.

I feel you my man, but how do you feel about me stepping into Starbucks on a regular basis to purchase their delicious energy drinks?

Oh you most certainly can, but the Starbucks keeps them chilled whereas the grocery stores do not. Also, there's more flavors in the Starbucks that most grocery stores as well.

I wouldnt say Olive Garden is disgusting, but its definately not my choice of Italian if I had to pick. And thats due to eating at Italian resturants where you just wonder was Olive Garden just microwaved stouffers? This female loves going there to the point I hate asking her where she wants to go eat. "Its my favorite spot", let me guess you thought Spaghetti-Os was Italian food too huh? Why are you so addicted to this wack place. I look around the resturant and people are happy. F*cking up the bread sticks. Feels like a Twilight Zone episode, you people really love this food!??

I guess this is the OP point but I really dont think Olive Garden is all of that. Its like someone asing if you want to go to Red Lobster. Wtf? Why? Is it next to a store you want to go too and thats the landmark? Who eats at Red Lobster? Step up from Mcdonalds, Wendys in my book. Maybe I'm on some stuck up stuff. I dunno, when you eat at places that makes Olive Garden, Red Lobster taste like stouffer meals? I'm just saying. :confusedshrug:

also to answer ur questions:

Family guy is the shit
we don't have olive garden in australia but if its anything like sizzler, then i'll definitely eat it, but won't go out of my way to eat it.
eminem's older shit is better but that doesn't mean i don't like his new shit
i love me some mainstream movies. u wna be a hipster go watch this movie and prove how altern u can be, and find the story in this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073650/ u go watch that, i'll happily watch transformers
i'm sorry but i never usually watch the movies that win the oscar / grammy's. those that vote are usually hipsters, seriously i don't think inception won that much and that movie was ****ing tops!
nothing is better in season 1. nothing, remember the simpsons season 1? that stuff looked like shit

that 70s show shit season 1

season 1 they usually test the shit, and see what the audience likes the most and then continue with that formula. its worked for big bang theory, 2 and a half me and friends.

The only food breaker I'm "picky" about, personally, is I can't stand having pickles on a burger, but if I accidentally take a bite, it's not a deal breaker.

Some food I just can't stand. Like, not wanting to eat spicy food isn't being picky. I will not eat it, whereas I'll eat the burger with the pickles on it if I have to. That's my interpretation of being "picky," when it comes to food.

The Oscars/Grammys don't mean shit

The general population or people who only like popular stuff are just as likely to hold that opinion. I mean, look at this site http://whoisarcadefire.tumblr.com/. People were upset that Arcade Fire won a grammy not because they believed Gaga/Bieber/Perry/Eminem put out better albums, but because they'd never heard of Arcade Fire. And apparently, because the popular media hadn't shoved them down their throats, there's simply no way their music could be any good. The "normal" (for lack of a better term) person has no better justifications for what they do and don't like than a hipster does, i.e., liking exclusively popular things is just as stupid as exclusively liking unpopular things.

I don't know what is so weird though...it isn't weird to take a girl to a chain

Whats weird is assuming its always a female who knows about a good spot to eat. While men only know fast food spots and chain resturants. Dudes cant cook, thats a females job. Dudes who cook with an apron? Sound the alarm, is he a squatter? Dudes who know about resturants that serve good meals in comparison to chain resturants? GIRLY BOY, GIRLY BOY!!

I dont know about everyone else but when you have something better than what you had before? I tend to go that route from there on out. I used to eat frozen pancakes, french toast. Eat home made pancakes, french toast and I refuse to eat that stuff frozen now. You enjoy Olive Garden? Cool story, but I've eaten Italian food at better spots. I crave that taste more than Olive Garden. Wendys, Mcdonalds sell burgers people like. I dont like them. I know places that sell really good burgers. I'm lost at where I went from man to woman here. Thats whats weird to me.

I also wash my hands before I eat. A "feminine" trait because according to Dooms only females are worried about washing their hands. Just STFU and dig in even tho you were just scratching your ass and sniffing about 20-25mins ago.

I also clipped my toenails/fingernails today. Too much info no doubt but I was freaked out when Dooms bust thru my door and screamed GIRLY BOY! Only females care about that stuff! I clip my nails when I open beer cans. Winning!

You two are weird.

I have four gears when it comes to women & food.

If she is hot... I'll take her to get Sushi or Fogo De Chou

If she is average (or a slut)... We are going to a chain restaurant.
I once met a Mexican Stripper at El Phoenix for our first date.
I keep $hit real.

If she isn't isn't very attractive... well,... in the past
I would just drink until she was average looking.
take that b*tch to get something to eat at the local bar.
(I don't drink anymore so my standards are higher)

and if you are my wife.... "What do you want from Taco Bueno"?

One Day I realized that if you are gonna go out to eat with a girl...
ALWAYS let her choose the place.

Agreed prime.

Though, let's say you're at Fox and Hound on a thursday night where pints for ALL BEERS ON TAP are $2.00. Great beer selection...what do you do? Ask for a pint of pissweiser, miller light, bud light, coors light etc. or are you going to ask for a legit beer like belgium 1554 or something of that nature?

No, mainly because your comments have confirmed what I thought all along.

I hate PBR.

Fun fact - PBR got its name after it won the award for "America's Best Beer" at the Chicago World's Fair lol. I learned that from the book "Devil in the White City" along with a bunch of other random facts.

Would you drink it if you were at a party, and it was all that was available?

Of course lol. When with friends I still voluntarily buy Natty Light and Keystone because of the price. Last weekend I drank Red Dog all night lol. When it comes down to it, I'll drink whatever is available.

There's truth in that but as one gets older (or so I've heard, ahem) you get tired of consuming shit. If you want to go cheap you at least want it to be tolerable. Pabst fits that category along with Yeungling, Rolling Rock, etc.

I'm one comment away from putting you on ignore.

I'm not a fan of Rolling Rock either but I used to live very close to their brewery so I have a soft spot for it.

Maybe this will be the comment that does it.:oldlol:

Good (drinkable in a pinch) cheap domestic beer:

Yeungling
Pabst
Rolling Rock
Blue Moon
Budwieser

Bad cheap domestic beer:

Anything "lite"
Anything "natty"

Natty Lite gets you right. Don't get your ass whipped by dissing Natty. We will see how good of a dentist you are when you have to repair your own grill.

Yuengling drinkable in a pinch?! I'll probably still be drinking the stuff when I'm pulling in 6-figures.

And anything natty is a godsend.

:oldlol: Sorry Dash my friend but around here Natty is so associated with frat douchebags that the rep outshines any quality the actual beer may contain. A shame but true nonetheless.

I don't think I've ever had a 40 before tbh. If I have it was when I was too ****ed up to remember. I've had far too much shitty liqour tho. I went through 3 bottles of Nikolai vodka alone my first week of college. It got to the point where I didn't even notice the taste anymore.

I'm such a hipster that hipsters are trying to copy me.

Seriously though, if I see one more guy in skinny jeans with a scarf, plastic sunglasses, and a weak generic beanie, in July... I might be in jail for murder.

:lol

Dude, have you decided where you're moving after graduation? Have you considered the other Portland?

malt liquor was really popular back in the early 90s...

I don't think it is like that any more...

Yeah, definitely not the same anymore. Not many people are trying to be like Boyz in the Hood drinking 40s on the porch anymore lol. Its more of a joke type of thing for the people I hang out with. Then again I grew up with mostly suburban white kids who are a lot like this part of a Katt Williams stand up lol.

I lied, not really a top ten, but I want to check out

NYC, Chi, Toronto, Portland, LA, Phoenix, Twin Cities, Seattle, and potentially Houston/Dallas.

Bolded for where I think would be the best choice, leaning towards biting the bullet for LA. Phoenix because I used to live there, Twin Cities I have family, Seattle for the f*ck of it, Houston/Dallas because I also used to live in Texas and I want to go through them again.
All domestic cities eh? (Toronto basically is domestic)

Nope, I think I'm just going to wing it for a bit. Possibly road trip some if the gas prices drop a bit (doubtful). Definitely leaving Maine before Thanksgiving.

I have thought about the other Portland, quite a bit actually. My mom lived out there back in the day and had only nice things to say about it... Plus the posters on here that live there say good things, and they have an NBA team. Portland is definitely in my top 10 to check out and potentially move to... Just have to force myself through the next 33 days and 15 minutes.

Portland is my favorite city on the planet.
