Shane Battier?:confusedshrug:
Luke Walton?:confusedshrug:
I'm interested in knowing if any current or more recent retired players actually have ever stayed committed to their schools by graduating. I'm pretty sure Shaw got a degree when he was with LA but I could be wrong.
When I saw Kemba Walker speaking after UCONN won the championship, I couldn't get over how ignorant he sounded when asked if he would be at UCONN in 4 years and he awkwardly said yes.

The lack of degree doesn't hurt them as players, but if they are serious about coaching, front office or broadcasting(and they aren't supremely suited for it like Shaq)...it can come back and bite them in the butt.
and to keep it 100....outside of Omeka Okufor, lot of these dudes had gut majors...including a lot of coach K's guys

Yea, a lot of guys have degrees. Not every player gets drafted in their freshman or sophomore year. Many are 4 year college players and have degrees.

Player to note with a degree is Vince Carter. I'm sure all of you remember him going to his graduation ceremony in the playoff series against the Sixers.

he walked with his class and flew in for the 7th game
nba was pushing education/stay in school so a LOT of the reporters were putting their foots in their mouths trying to criticize Vince.

He's not the only Husky to do so. Emeka Okafor graduated in 04 with a finance degree and 3.8 GPA in three years. I remember him talking about it during the draft, and thinking maybe this kid had some potential in the NBA. He's lived up to expectations defensively at least.

From that same NY Times article
60% of NBA players are broke 5 years after they retire
The average annual salary in the N.B.A. is $5.85 million, and players are generally secure in the near term. Their retirement years can be completely different. An estimated 60 percent of N.B.A. players are broke within five years of retiring, and 78 percent of N.F.L. players are bankrupt or under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce within two years, according to a report by Sports Illustrated in March. The magazine also reported that many baseball players struggle financially after retirement.

i suppose Etan Thomas can't really be categorized as an 'NBA player' these days, but he's definitely one of the smarter dudes in the league. a poet, very well read, keeps up with current events, etc.

His poetry is garbage though and his writing style is the definition of pretentious.
