View Full Version : Lebron: The Evolution of a Post Game

[quote]On two separate occasions against the Boston Celtics last Sunday, LeBron James ran down to the offensive end of the floor faced with a mismatch. With his regular defender, Paul Pierce, on the opposite side of the floor, the Celtics tasked with defending James were Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo, each giving up nearly 50 pounds.

What happens now?

The popular school of thought seems to be that he receives a pass, takes a few steps back at the top of the key, gathers momentum and attempts to freight-train his way past his defender, just as he would have three years ago. But even that scenario is too detailed for how the thinking goes, the narrative far more focused on what he doesn

Hardly anyof those are post moves, he backed down like 2 times then ran through the defender (The ones who are most of the times a mismatch ala Sasha!)

Those are no post moves!

These are his post moves:

You can have multiple Kobe gifs where he makes a bad move in the post as well. stop trolling. lol @ all of them being against the Knicks. How are you gonna act like a drop step and those spins he did arent post moves?:facepalm

LeBron's post up numbers are very good at over 50% when posting up over the past 2 years.

Moreover, whenever the Heat have gone to a small lineup with Bosh at C and LeBron at PF this season, they have looked absolutely terrific.

Doug Collins said recently after witnessing it for himself against his Sixers, saying that LeBron's best position is at PF

Exactly, I've seen many good post moves by Lebron in many games, he just doesn't use them constantly.

it must suck for hulk hogan. i mean he spends more time hating players in the nba than actually enjoying his favorite players. lebrons going to be the best player in the league for a while buddy, so you have a lot of years of posting stupid gifs to please yourself.
not to mention kobe is never going to be better than wade again. so a lot more tears will be spilled.

Backing down once or twice then driving to the rim for a layup isn't a post move or post game!
its an embarrassment to guys like Kobe, and Jordan!

Doug Collins on LeBron at PF:

"They just have another gear," Collins said of the Heat. "This team is such a great team. They have so many options they can go to. Then when they go to that small lineup they're lethal."

Collins was emphatic that James is a matchup nightmare as a power forward.

“When you put LeBron at the 4, that’s his best position,” Collins said. “That’s where he is a monster because you can’t guard him. And he's big enough to guard you. He's bigger than Karl Malone because he's got speed and quickness and power and grace and agility and skill. So when they go small -- and that’s what you’re going to see in the playoffs, as much as Chris Bosh probably doesn’t want to play the 5, when they put Wade out there and LeBron at the 4 and Bosh and a couple of other guys who can shoot that ball -- they’re tough.”

All he is doing is using his athleticism to blow pass the defender.

Athleticism is nothing without footwork dumbass. I'm not saying he has the best, but Lebron has to have good footwork to post up, spin right or left and finish. Does Shaq not have a post game either? Or is he just all athleticsm?

Lebron has so much potential. I think alot of it has to do with him not going to college.

He COULD be a great post player.

Almost every time Kobe does that inverted pivot he loves doing, he is dragging or in some cases picking up his pivot foot and traveling:oldlol:

From the videos posted, Lebron doesn't have a great post game, but at least he has something. He doesn't have a conventional set of moves. The ones shown were upfakes and some of them weren't really back to the basket post moves like his turn around blow by on Durant.

Lebron's game is aesthetically unpleasant. From his jumper to his 'post game' painful to watch. More so when he is posting up, He looks out of sort down there. Lebron should Stick with what he can does best bully ball bulldozing people over. Lebron will never have Kobe Bryant fundamentals or fluidity.

i believe Lebron's most deadly move (other than fastbreaking) is his ability to pass to the open guy with a high % shot. His scoring moves are all too predictable

obvious the OP vid was selective , but it is part of his game he is improving on , and in crunch time in the playoffs watch for it.

It opens his game up immensely , because he has already a number of moves , and he will determine which moves work best against the type of player , SG, PG, SF or PF.

This board does not give lebron enough credit for his inteligence as a bball player.. we see the athletic and gifted player , but few talk about his bball IQ

:facepalm Yeah, he shouldn't continue to do the things that allow him to shoot 51% FG on the season. He should revert back to 2006/2007 LeBron mode when he wasn't as effective of a player and scorer...makes sense.

He's shooting 10% higher than 2010, and 20% higher than 2009 from that 10-15 post jumper range, and 10% higher from 16-23 feet than 2006, but you'd rather see that player again?

That's all good, but hispost moves are not effective, he never gets a good look out of the post, Wade shoots 84% when posting up, he has not seen the low post since the allstar break, so basically the coach said **** the numbers, bron deserves the ball down there more, even after Wade has dominated down there???????

Good Article. Good to hear Lebron is working on his post game. If he can get the running hook down, he could be even more dangerous as an offensive player. That will set up a drop step or spin baseline out of the post. Lebron is talented enough to get it.

Lebron's post game: back the defender into the paint and do a hook shot

If that doesn't work, then it gets real ugly from there.

His post game is down right brutal to watch its like watching a Toyota Echo drive down the street not a good sight. But a Echo has Toyota reliability and is good on gas their are good points tho, well LBJ could be effective on the block because of his size and bulk i still think he can score down there it will never be a Melo,Jordan,Richmond,Kobe or Penny post game but it can be effective...

I give LeBron credit for making an effort to improve his post game. He's been practicing it for years, but it never really gets any better. Outside of passing, he has no finesse whatsoever and remarkably bad footwork.
