View Full Version : Post-game discussion: Hornets upset Lakers in Game 1, April 17

1) Pau Gasol is absolutely the most overrated player in the game over the course of the last two years. He plays no defense, shoots 16 ft jumpers all day, and way his shots is not falling he's basically a complete non factor for the team. He's soft, a punk, scared to go inside, can't get crucial rebounds, never played a lick of defense in his life. Get's taken out of the game by a FCKING PAPER cut. He's a product of Kobe Bryant and is not a better PF than guys like Amare.

2) Chris Paul, what can you say? the kid is special.... he brings a whole new dimension to the game of ... flopping

3) homecourt advantage doesn't mean anything for the lakers. Hornets shoot 20 free throws in the 4th quarter. lakers shoots 4

and Chris Paul has the audacity to say they don't call fouls in the playoffs in the post game interview

After our atrocious game 1, gotta give the hornets credit, chris paul was on fire, bench was great, etc.

I expect LA to blowout NO in game 2

Chris Paul was huge, but looking at the bigger picture, NOLA's PG play as a whole was huge. 48, 19, 11, 4 steals and only 2 turnovers is ridiculous. In addition to that only 3 turnovers as a team. Insane.

Kobe missed his last 6 shots of the game. Imagine what the reaction would be if Lebron did that, but Laker fans are blaming it on Pau.

Hornets played a near flawless game aside from their 10 missed free throws. 24 assists to 3 turnovers, Paul/Jack ripping Fisher to shreds, their bench playing spectacularly (Gray/Jack/Smith/Green were 16/23 combined) Aaron Gray was +25 and Jack was +16. Sucks to see Gray go down, hopefully he's OK.

Now, Pau f'd up today with his 2/9, but he played NO very well in the regular season. Suffice to say he won't (or shouldn't) play as badly as he did today. Artest outrebounded both Bynum and Gasol, which I found funny. Kind of a shitty loss, but oh well.

That is what Fakers fan do. They love to throw everyone but Kobe under the bus anytime the play poorly. Its hilarious. We'll hear how badly Pau and Artest and Fisher suck until they are making huge plays in key moments in the finals again.

The Lakers might win the next 4 games by 25 points. Especially if Gray can't play. No way in hell they can match the Lakers size without Gray.

But it's safe to say LA won't play this bad again and NO won't play that well. I expect a solid Los Angeles win in game 2 and they'll still win the series in 5-6 games.

real 3 things:

a) gasol played poorly. it happens, sometimes more than it should.

b) LA can't defend the pick n' roll. they'll make adjustments though. that's what the playoffs are about. getting blake back will help big time.

c) they didn't box out and turned the ball over too much. recipe for disaster.

Bingo.

Called that in the game thread but was called an 'idiot hater'. sure he kept the in the game with his offense but his missed his last handful of shots too.

5:56 - 89-85 Kobe Bryant misses jumper
5:15 - 90-87 Kobe Bryant misses 12-foot jumper
4:37 - 92-87 Kobe Bryant misses 10-foot jumper
2:10 - 98-92 Kobe Bryant out of bounds lost ball turnover
1:37 - 100-92 Kobe Bryant misses jumper

Most of his missed shots and turnovers all came when the game was STILL in reach. He choked; simple as that.

lol once again shifting blame.

Gasol had a poor scoring night. He was still moving the ball well, garnering a team-high 6 assists. Played poor pick and roll defense, but that has been a team issue for years now.

Fisher was his regular season self. Exploited by quicker players, and uncharacteristically challenged physically by Paul.

Kobe went cold in the 4th, doing little to help his team win after 3 quarters of good basketball.

Bynum did absolutely nothing.

Artest at one point scored 7 straight late in the 4th. Nobody else was doing anything. To place the blame on one person is just another sign of how biased towards one player the fanbase really is. It's not about the lakers to you, it's about Kobe.

They're 8 years old?

They have some sort of tunnelvision when they watch basketball. They only focus on one player, and if that player makes a bad play, they'll take notes.

Once Kobe started missing, 20 fresh haters came into the game thread. They just hide behind a rock until they have new material.

Pau today was Gasoft. Games like this is the reason he deserves that nickname, he played against a miniature PF in Carl Landry and couldn't get it done.

And that's an understatement.

But nobody on the Lakers played well, this loss is almost entirely on them. And of course on CP3 and Jarret Jack.

Whatevs, Lakers are gonna win this series in 6 and Kobe will get his due and bask in the glory. He faltered in the clutch but LA was getting away with murder for stretches, anyway. If Kobe hadn't shot that well in the first three quarters, the Lakers would've been blown out the way they presented themselves.

Still, it just feels great to see how trolls like Hulk Hogan got exposed.. again. The knee-jerk reaction threads about Kobe and his legacy are somewhat annoying, but the real LA fans will just have to deal with it. And rightly so, as they constantly give THEIR trolls passes.

Just because you are the home team doesn't automatically result in more FT's. This is something laker fans can't digest. Hornets got to the line more because they attacked more, and because the lakers were in the penalty early. It doesn't mean fouls weren't called. Emeka was in trouble all game long. Meanwhile, the Laker frontline didn't attack. Pau wasn't aggressive on the block, and Bynum did nothing, resulting in a lot of jumpshots for LA. People who assume that FT totals equate to a bias either didn't watch the game, or don't understand the game.

Bynum was decent. He put fourth the effort but was clearly rusty from his two game absence.

Kobe played well. I do think most of his shots came outside of the offense, though that was mostly due to the Hornet's full court pressure.

I don't know how ANYONE can think Gasol played even remotely well. He was awful. The Lakers completely forgot about him and whenever he did get the ball he played soft. His man to man defense was terrible. I expect him to bounce back in a big way in game 2.

Uh, no. Troll fail, try again. Everyone knew CP3 would kill LA. Hell, I said if the Lakers lost a game this series it would be the first one. It is what it is. They'll watch tape, fix their defense, and play much better in game 2.

Lakers defense is garbage. If they aren't hitting shots, they are in trouble.

Kobe and Fisher get abused on the perimeter, and Bynum is the only guy who offers any type of help defense.

And Gasol needs to man up. I don't want to hear anything about getting "touches". Gasol got plenty of touches, and did nothing with them except run down the shot clock.

Why blame this on gasol when Kobe (worst crunchtime player in the nba) went 0-6 in the final 4 minutes of the game?

So much for the Spurs being the best team in the west. 1-0 Grizzlies.

The way I see it the Lakers just didn't play well as a team. The Laker bigs sucked @$$ and Kobe wasn't all that great either lol, noone really played well. The refs did favor the Hornets at times IMO but they did play well, only 3 TO's and 24 assists I think. Not to mention CP3 was awesome today.

But it's safe to say LA won't play this bad again and NO won't play that well. I expect a solid Los Angeles win in game 2 and they'll still win the series in 5-6 games.

Good game Hornets.

Agreed although if it wasn't for Kobe this game would have been a blowout.

Gasol didn't wake up until he made that tough shot at the end of the game. Lakers will win 4 straight, book it.

WOW...CP3 an elite player destroying an older D Fish....and the fact that it is well known for the past couple years that this Laker team has trouble against elite guards in the NBA makes you prediction that much more impressive.

Fisher really needs to go.

I thought this guy was gone during the offseason when his contract expired and the Lakers are looking at PGs. I expected him to be on the Lakers bench. How is this washed up old man still starting?

Glad NOLA pulled this one off. CP3 shows himself in the playoffs. Hopefully he can continue to play like this throughout the series. Lakers may win in their next home games but hopefully NOH does too and complete the upset against the lakers. I hope Aaron Gray is fine because NOH badly needs him.

Let's Go NOLA!

:lol Don't understand how people gonna defend Gasol, guy looked unmotivated like he didn't wanna be there. Even though Kobe went trigger happy at the end going 0-6, the biggest problem was not being able to stop CP3. That's not Kobe's fault or Ga.... what I'm saying is that they need stops and they weren't getting it done. I'm not sticking up for Kobe but how you let CP3 go crazy on your team like that?
The team is a bunch of scrubs plus CP3, answer is easy.

When are people going to comprehend that saying Gasol doesn't shoulder 100% of the blame for the loss isn't defending his play?

I had a feeling the Lakers would lose Game 1. It had something to do with them losing five straight games towards the end of the season and almost losing to the Sacramento Kings. It has to do with lack of focus; their defense also sucked.

Pau Gasol didn't contribute anything in terms of scoring and his team suffered as a result. Andrew Bynum didn't contribute enough. Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest were the ones who contributed the most. But Kobe causing the turn-over toward the end of the game didn't help us; I could be wrong but I think it was two turn-overs.

The Hornets bench played well as opposed to the Lakers Bench and that also hurt as well.

They have until Wednesday to get their act together and play extremely well before the game shifts to New Orleans. Their defense needs to improve especially when it comes to Chris Paul.

You can't just blame one guy, the entire Laker team just got outhustled. No way should we have gotten killed by Gray, Landry, Jack, Green, and Bellinelli. Those guys all had huge games. I can't see them Keeping that up for 3 more games. If they do, good job, they deserve to move on. I think the Lakers need to play extremely aggressive next game and send a message that you ain't going to just walk through us. I hope the Lakers are at least thinking that way.
