yeah, they'd be even more deadly.

this will sound weird, though, but Rudy can be a bit of a ball stopper at times. the way the scoring is divided now, it kind of helps their team IMO (not saying they ARE better without him, just play different).

I can't stand when ISHiots b*tch about the homer announcers. *Irony, I know* EVERY local team announcer is a homer. Stop complaining. That's just the way is. Every local broadcaster will be biased towards their team. I doubt he gives a shit about the game being on National TV. He's the commentator for the Spurs and will therefore root for the Spurs.

Lack of professionalism? Maybe, you could say the same thing for every local broadcaster out there. I was trying to enjoy the game thread and every now and then someone had to b*tch about the announcers. Give me a f*cking break. This isn't anything new, and your b*tching won't change anything.

So you've never talked to you friend and said something like, "I cant believe we lost to the clippers" after a game? I'm sure 99% of the people on this board refer to their team as we when talking to friends, and Sean Elliot actually has a Spurs jersey with his name on it without the numbers being 0.

Ginobili was the difference. Had he been healthy and ready to go in game one, the Spurs would be up 2-0. Now they're headed to Memphis to play a team that's brimming with confidence. The Grizz have the big bodies to wear down the Spurs' bigs (Pop won't play anyone else other than undersized Blair off the bench, and Bonner is a 6' 10" shooting guard so he doesn't count) but the Spurs will steal one of the two.

The Grizz are limited by their post-season inexperience, as evidenced today in certain situation (turnovers).

I fail to see how any of that is relevant. Are you saying i'm right but he gets a pass on sucking as an announcer?

He's a great player. He's a terrible announcer. AWFUL. He is not a member of the team now. He doesn't announce what's going on. He says "we are not playing well - we need to find something inside". "I don't like our body language out there". He also said in the 4th qtr for a few minutes that Memphis was losing because "they were not greedy enough to get two". Not that SA was better, which i thought, but that Memphis didn't really care to win.

HE SUCKED. Total homer announcer. If that makes you happy then so be it. I don't like my announcers to sound like a message boy fan defending their team. There is a difference between giving the perspective of the home team, and rooting for the home team. He roots.

Do you honestly believe this is unique to Sean? A lot of former players doing color commentary for their former teams say "we." It's something they don't do on purpose to make people like you asshurt so easily.

Not at all. I hate the Celtic announcers too. There are a ton of them. The Nets announcers found 1,000 great things to talk about last year when the team quit in game 6. I was talking about THIS game. Basically i'm being told
1) Don't criticize because he was great player.
2) Don't criticize because he was great Spur.
3) Don't criticize because other announcers are annoying ass homers too.

Give me a break. I DON'T like him as an announcer. He spent 5 minutes explaining how the Spurs were winning ebcause Memphis didn't take seriously their chance to win both games. That's a load of crap. SA is the better team, they simply beat Memphis by out executing them down the stretch. T

He didn't give me any real insight on the Spurs, he rooted for them openly, he told me Memphis could have won if only they cared about winning 2 games, etc. I'm sure he has thousands of interesting stories and anectotes about the Spurs, Duncan, Pop which would be great but instead he gives me "I don't like our body langauge out there". "If only we can make a stop here we'll be fine".

You like him. More power to you. I don't like being given a spin job. Especially since the Spurs have been so good, why does it appeal to you an announcer who wants to protect you from thinking they are flawed at all?

The announcer is supposed to blend into the background and at the same time add to the experience, give you things you can't see. He sounded like Sinjackal arguing on the message board. WE'LL BE FINE! HERE COMES OUR RUN!

Not at all. I hate the Celtic announcers too. There are a ton of them. The Nets announcers found 1,000 great things to talk about last year when the team quit in game 6. I was talking about THIS game. Basically i'm being told

[QUOTE]1) Don't criticize because he was great player.
2) Don't criticize because he was great Spur.
3) Don't criticize because other announcers are annoying ass homers too.

Criticize all you want, that'll all you've done so far.

Just don't get asshurt when people call you out on it.

The problem with people like you who think their opinions matter more than others and in turn are somehow "fact" is that you don't understand that your opinion is just that, your opinion.

Give me a break. I DON'T like him as an announcer. He spent 5 minutes explaining how the Spurs were winning ebcause Memphis didn't take seriously their chance to win both games. That's a load of crap.

He spent five minutes during the game and talked about one subject. Hyperbole? Nah... I'm sure he spent five minutes discussing why and how the Grizzlies were losing. Do you believe that BS yourself?

If the Knick announcers ever said "WE ARE LOSING" i'd crap on them too. You like homer announcers waving the pom poms. That's great. I do not.

Why would "homer" announcers bother me? Seriously? I'm I supposed to get heated over every little thing like that?

Apparently because you want your opinions sugar coated to be pro spurs. you also are getting on me because i don't like an ex spur "HOW DARE YOU HATE ON SEAN ELLIOT? HE'S ROYALTY!"

And i don't want to hear i hate him because i don't like Spurs, you are GOING to win this series, you are a much better team, and you are a real threat to the Lakers whose ON switch apparently broke. I'm not saying that.

So you know. That's great. Sean's opinions are his own, his analyst is his own. As our mine.

There were more than a few times I thought to myself and said outloud: "Goddamn the Spurs are playing like sh!t. They ****ing suck right now."

Sean actually will say they same thing but in a more PG way. Well, maybe G way.

I honestly don't get your dislike for him.

He's witty, clever, funny, charismatic, entertaining, etc. All things a good color commentary needs to have. I mean, I guess he could be some monotone side kick with a speaking role every few minutes while the play by play man is center stage. But it wouldn't be the same fun broadcast us Spurs fans enjoy.

Also, he'll criticize the Spurs (in his own way) just as he tongue bathes them.

Can't really say much about Sean Elliott as an announcer, but for my money, Chick Hearn was the greatest. And I'm no Lakers fan.

Besides the catch-phrases and the honest assessment of the team, he was sharp all the way to the end. Plus he would predict whether a shot would be flat/short/long before it hit the rim.

Sean doesn't say the SPurs suck ever, not in rounadbout way, not ever. If they are down 20 he says "a 10 pt run here and we'll be right back in it". The SPurs are good, i've seen them play so many times - he is a total homer. When the Spurs score on a role and he says "WE ARE IN THIS!" it's irritating. No, you are not. YOU are retired. Parker, Duncan, etc. - THEY are in it. YOu are sitting and watching.

I'm sorry, he's awful. I get you like him because you personally like him. Like i probably can listen to Strahan ramble about the Giants, etc. But i know the difference between homer announcer fun to listen to and good announcer. Sean Elliot is awful. I'm sorry.

Geeze could you nitpick any more? When Doug Collions colored games he'd say the same stuff. "If so and so can get this lead to single digits before the half/4th they'll put themselves in a good position."

It honestly seems like you have a problem with the fact that he uses the possessive "we" a lot. So what? Fans say the same thing and I don't see you throwing fits in threads about that. If there's anyone in that arena that not on the Spurs bench who has the right to say we it's David Robinson and Sean Elliott.

Tommy is a biased homer who is always only focused on the Celtics.

Sean is a homer but can praise the other team and players as easy as he can for the Spurs.

But even then, who cares if either are homers. They're local color men for their local teams doing local broadcasts to appease the local fan base. The fact that that gets to you is so funny and shows how pathetic a life you live if you spend even a micro second letting it bother you.

Unsurprisingly, Spurs won with Manu. Grizzlies only chance for this series was to steal games before Manu is healthy, then hope they could win 1-2 of the remaining 4-5 games. Manu's offense and ball handling was crap, but let everyone else play in their normal roles. It effects both the offense and defense. Spurs offense still has yet to have a good game, two straight bad games, and they have one win and one barely loss to show for it.

The longer this series goes, the more healthy Manu gets, the less chance Memphis has at getting wins. Healthy Spurs easily beats this Memphis team. Grizzlies have a nice team, but the Spurs are obviously better in several areas. It doesn't matter how they supposedly "match up", the Spurs have game plans to beat teams who they don't match up well with. Because oh yeah, the Spurs have advantages over the Grizzlies too, that nobody talks about. Better penetration, better 3pt shooting, better help defense, and good low post defense when both Timmy and McDyess are out there.

Sportsguy33:
Who is announcing this Grizzlies-Spurs game? These guys are such homers that even Tommy Heinsohn is disgusted.

I don't see how anyone can possibly have been whining about the Spurs local broadcast announcers when the entire pre game and post game (national media announcers FYI) were blowing the Grizzlies like their ***** had the antidote in it.

LOL can't wait for sinjackal's excuse when spurs lose this game. :lol

Oh look, another failed prediction by a bad poster.

Refs are calling everything for the spurs yet again.

 Uh, Grizzlies got away with tons of shit the whole game. And I recall almost all of their runs being spurred on by getting every call for a 3-4 minute span (they had one legitimate run I think in the 3rd or 4th though, was a 7-0 or a 9-2 run with no whistles). Like late in the 2nd, they had a 13-3 run going, and it was on 7 straight calls in their favor. 4 cheap touch fouls, and 2 "50/50" calls (which replays showed should have gone in SA's favor) going in the Grizzlies' favor, while they committed at least 3 obvious fouls that weren't called.

I suppose Spurs haters will see what they want to see though, and will pretend like no whistles were called against the Spurs. Note: the refs whistled 9 turnovers against SA, and only 5 against Memphis. Refs fouled out Duncan when Gasol literally pushed him causing the contact that Duncan fouled out with; no call on Gasol of course. Refs kept calling McDyess for cheap touch fouls (yet again) so he could barely stay on the floor. Refs also called almost the exact same number of fouls on each team.

Spurs get more FTAs because the Grizzlies foul when they get beat on defense. Uncontested layup > FTAs.The Spurs do not do this. They specifically try to NOT foul when they get beat on D', and trust Duncan to make the layup hard to make without fouling. For many years, SA has been among the bottom of the league in FTAs against for that very reason. That's how they play defense, it isn't about the refs.

Droid101

So far, so good for my prediction:

Grizzlies come in and sucker punch the Spurs, stealing the first game in a nail-biter.

Spurs respond by taking the next two... and the Grizz fight their way to even the series 2-2.

Spurs win at home, Grizz win at home, and it's a toss up in a tough game seven with Tony Allen and Shane Battier locking down the Spurs perimeter scoring, and Tim Duncan powerless to stop Z-Bo's relentless scoring assault.

Grizzlies in seven, and I'm being serious.
Keep it up, teams!

For all your bitter hate for him, the Spurs got the highest local ratings of any team in the NBA this year. Spurs fans like him. He's a Spurs' home team announcer for local Spurs broadcasts. He is doing his job perfectly and they're getting big local ratings.

When you listen to home team announcers, you should expect to hear homerism. They are home team announcers. Especially when one (or both) of those announcers are former LIFETIME PLAYERS OF THE TEAM and were a huge part of that team's first championship.

Not shit he's going to be a Spurs' homer. He lives in SA, played his entire career (minus half a season) with them, helped bring that team their first championship as it's best perimeter player, and gasp, still clearly works for that team as it's announcer.

Clyde Fraizer won two titles for the Knicks and has spent the better part of his career with that organization. He never says WE, he never roots, he does talk about things from our perspective (of course) and he wants us to win, but he doesn't root. BTW Sean Elliott is a big part of the Spurs organization, he is in their "war room" during drafts, was privy to the Bruce Bowen trade/dump before anyone else was...his number is retired, he is always at official Spurs events, etc., etc.

I think it is ironic that people are whining and complaining about Elliott, and how he doesn't call the game, doesn't talk enough basketball, and then turn around and *not* talk basketball complaining about announcing for 3 pages of thread. If you don't like it, turn the sound off the game, like I do when I am forced to watch the NBA on ESPN.

Anyway, to game 3: my hope it that the bitter taste of game 1 will translate into the same effort game 3 and we saw game 2. Parker really sucked game 1, was better game 2, and I look for him to explode, game 3 or 4. He is overdue for a big night.

I post in Spurs and Bulls threads I see on the front page when I log on. I browse posts I see, and respond to the ones I thought were good, and the ones I thought were stupid.

Also, I didn't respond to any of your posts until you started speaking directly to me, asking for me to reply to you basically. I simply made a comment about all of the posts made about Sean Elliott in this thread. Most of the time, those posts are by people who never post anything positive about the Spurs. anti-Spurs trolls such as yourself, Droid101, Lakers fanboys, and other such posters. So I'm not sure why you keep saying that I replied to your post and called you a troll, when I didn't. You are a troll, but I haven't said that in this thread until now. The only one that seems butthurt here is you.

As for your pathetic "the time will come" comment, yes, I'm sure you will finally pick correctly at some point, seeing as how you pick against them in every game and every series. I'm sure you'll pick against them next series, and the one after that, and the one after that should they get that far. You can go 0-10, then you'll run around saying "I told you so" if you get 1/10.

That doesn't change the fact that you have been wrong about everything about to that point (I can rehash everything you've been wrong about so far if you'd like), and have done nothing but pray they lose or get injured the entire season and postseason. Your "predictions" look like nothing but prayers that they will fail by a Spurs hater.

How is this about basketball? Stop filling up the Memphis/SA thread with meaningless personalty issues. Don't they have professionals for this? :confusedshrug:
