True, but it only makes it a more pathetic showing by GSP.

Pathetic? He did with one eye what Hendo couldn't do with two eyes - beat Shields.

Maybe pathetic isnt the word but i dont know what other word to use when Jake Shields landed good strikes on GSP.That more so then anything is what is really burning me.Seeing a boring decision and a safe fight from GSP is expected.

Edit-After much thought i am going to have be "that guy".I dont like to ever be criticizing a pro fighter but **** it.It was a pathetic showing by both fighters but mainly GSP.

If being "safe" basically guarantees you a win, I don't see how anyone can criticize him or any fighter that chooses to do so. He's been exploiting clear weaknesses in his opponents and isn't taking risks to give them a chance to use their strengths. It can make for some relatively boring fights but the point is to win. I get bored by Fitch a lot of the time but I can't blame him for the way he chooses to fight because it works most of the time.

I guess its my fault, the rest of the card was great but the main event was not worth my 60 bucks. This was one of the few cards i put money into and i feel i didnt get what i paid for or i was stupid to think the main event was worth a buy.I wont complain of about GSP's performance anymore next time unless he fights Diaz i just wont buy his fights.

I don't think GSP did that badly, especially if his eye really did bother him that much. The guy is getting overly criticized after handily beating a guy whose last loss was 6 and a half years ago, and who recently had a win over the current SF LHW champ. I guess GSP is so good that he's not only expected to beat opponents that rarely ever lose, but he's also expected to finish fighters who just don't get finished (Shields has only been finished once in his career and that was his 3rd career fight 11 years ago).

I think people are still underrating Shields while not giving GSP enough credit. Jake gave GSP a good fight and definitely showed well in the last two rounds. GSP is an absolute beast and fought a smart fight against a very game opponent. Shields is as hard to finish as anyone in the sport. Wasn't the most exciting fight by any stretch but not nearly as awful as I thought it was going to be after reading what people wrote in here and on MMA forums, lol.

Diaz vs St.Pierre, id like to see that. In his fight with shields gsp got out boxed in the end. You could probably argue that shields wouldnt have a chance in the stand up game if georges eye didnt have any problems, but the reason his eye got messed up in the first place is because of shields striking. Diaz is a much better striker and will exploit the holes in gsp's stand up more so than shields did. So if this fight happens, we will have ourselves a ground war between a jiu jitsu artist and a wrestler. Diaz winning will depend on how good he is on his back. And for those people who says that diaz doesnt deserve a title shot, who do you suggest gsp fight? Diaz just KO'd Daley, the fighter koscheck won against via lay and pray to get the fight against gsp. He has been undefeated for a long time and is regarded as one of the best welterweight fighters in the world. The only fighter id rather see GSP face before him is Anderson Silva. And i guess a lot of fight fans will agree.

I love GSP, but I'm getting tired of his boring fights. Sure you can blame his eye injury for not allowing him to finish the fight, but this doesn't change the fact that his last bunch of fights have been the same. Playing it safe, and just doing enough to win.

I miss the old, killer instinct GSP that made him a fan favorite.

seriously i don't know what fight some of you were watching but Shields punched at air, and pretty much on purpose 95% of the fight. He wasn't even trying to land than close his eyes hoping GSP would put his face for him to hit between the middle of them. I was so appauled by Shields hype vs what i saw of him its unbelievable i'm reading people act like Shields did anything worth noting :wtf:

I think Shields was so scared to open himself up with a real punch that might actually connect, that he just decided to punch air between them. thats got to be it :sleeping

oh and i'm not saying GSP put on a great fight either but at least he was trying, like fake supermans, jabs, overhand rights, etc.

Shields striking was awful. it was initially a poke in his eye, then i think a elbow on the top of his forehead that spilled blood into his eye?, something like that. both flukes.

i'd like to see GSP vs Diaz but i think GSP would beat him. in fact i think GSP wouuld tear him up and Diaz still taunting him all bloodied up, but thats why it'd be a great match. Diaz always comes to fight.

Well as a long time GSP fan I agree that I would like to see him open up on his striking like he used to, but I also understand why he plays it safe. It's not like he runs away from the fight though, he just follows a methodical game plan.

The guy is really the first mma fighter to break into the big endorsements like Gatorade and Under Armour, and now he alos has his own P90X style workout dvd set. His goal it to be the greatest martial artist ever, and that is how he markets himself to his sponsers. He trains as hard as anyone in the sport and is willing to take any fight that they throw at him, who are we to tell him he should choose to be exciting over win his fight. The guy just wins, thats it, it's up to someone else to go in there and really challenge him and then you will see the old GSP. HE hasn;t been in a spot in his last fights where he has had to take chances so why should he.

I think they have 4 options for his next opponent:

Condit/Stun Gun winner
Marquardt/Rumble winner
Silva
Diaz

Would like to see any of those guys vs GSP, although I don't think any will beat him, they are the most interesting fights out there.

Whoever is going to have a chance at beating GSP will have to be a very well rounded fighter, not a specialist

Well I'm certainly not saying Silva can't beat him, or that GSP will dominate Silva, but if I had to put money down on it right now, I would put my money on GSP.
