He has alot of maturing to go through. Its plays like this that seperates him from the first-tier PGs.

I was going to make a similar thread
I have to admit I didn't watch the game but looking at play-by-play
Why the hell does he chuck and miss 3 key 3pt and didn't let durant take them, durant was 5-6 for the night and way better 3pt shooter then himself. selfish at its best
I'm disappointed in what he showed tonight, seems like he thinks he's bigger than the team

I hope guys that been saying westbrook is better than rose watched this game. If you look at Westbrooks stats you think he had a great game but he makes some of the worst decisions. And Yes Durant is the best player on Thunder not Westbrook.

The last shot wasnt what im mad about.
He felt he got fouled in the 3min+ mark (when he just took an ill-advised shot), complained to the refs and didnt get back to D. Lawson then got the ball drawing another defender kicking out to Gallo for an open 3.
Then the 3pt airball with 8sec left was just :facepalm
GET DURANT THE DAMN BALL
I still love the Thunders tho, and im glad the Nuggets pull out a win because they deserve it.

russ took them shots, cuz they were most likely gonna double durant. yeah he got that open look for 3 when they were down 5, not 3. if its a 3 point lead its likely they double durant coming off that screen. but westbrook needs to learn to trust harden too. he can hit those, especially if hes open.

All that applies to this thread too so you can STFU. Korver doesn't make open shots? Hasn't he been the 1 hitting big shots in the 4th? Didn't Deng spark the run in the game 3 win? He was shooting terrible before he turned his ankle too, he just had 49ftas in the first 3 games

It tonight was an accurate portrayal of who/what Westbrook really is, OKC should consider trading him for a player that better compliments Kevin Durant; someone more pass-friendly who can drain 3's- a Stephen Curry type skillset.
Westbrook really is a great talent though, so they need to get a good return, but if I am GM, get him out.

Westbrook definitely seems like a punk. But because he's a flashy, athletic scorer he's inevitably overrated by all the major media outlets at the moment, and by extension most general managers around the league. You could probably net a fortune for him in a trade. OKC might be wise to look into that in the offseason. He seems like a Carmelo type. Sure, he's flashy, so the media will make him a star, but he really isn't someone who makes you any better than any regular gritty role player.

Far more than just a role player? Dude just about everyone in the league other than guys like James, Howard, Paul, Wade, Nowitzki, Durant, Griffin, and a few others are role players.
Guys like Westbrook, Stoudamire, Carmelo, Rudy Gay etc. are made out to be "stars" simply because they are the designated scorers and that gets them more ESPN facetime than the guys who are designated rebounders or ballmovers/shooters, or defenders etc. but the reason a team like OKC or Memphis is successful is because the whole TEAM is good and fits well together, even tho most people want to pigeon-hole every good team into a "Batman-Robin-role players" formula. That's just media cliches and lazy analysis.
Westbrook aint that special. He's good, but he could be replaced by a lot of guys around the league without any drop off in the Thunders overall performance. They might be better off with a guy like Andre Miller running the point.

curious, you left out a notable name or 2. kobe and rose. what are their roles?
and i seriously doubt andre miller would do the same for the thunder as westbrook can. westbrook can penetrate on anyone (no homo). obviously that has some detriments, but its mostly a positive for the thunder as no other thunder can break down the defense.

dude, im sure you realize westbrook is an important piece on the team. when hes going good they are almost damn unbeatable. hes too good to be an x-factor. he makes dumb mistakes, but this loss is a learning experience. all they gotta do is show him game tape on it like kenny smith said. and ask him, russ is that a good shot? is that one a good shot? no?

Westbrook has 1 bad performance and hes now "Westbrick"? Any bulls fan should shut the fu*k up in here, Rose goes 6-24, 5-25 etc on a very regular basis. His 3pt shooting is pathetic also, he was what, 0-9 the other night??? Yeah, never costs his team the game though:facepalm :facepalm

2 great players that are fighting for each other.
in BOS games no matter how hot PP is from 3, he always looks to get it to Ray.
Westbrook costed them this game playing hero
lol @ this is not a good analogy. I'll give you 2 reasons why.
1. Paul Pierce is way better than Ray Allen and he's a way better scorer. He'd be the Durante in this situation. If it comes down to a clutch shot and Pierce has it going, he's taking this shot. Since the big 3, Pierce has probably taken 90% of the ok we need a bucket crunch time shots. The ball is always in Pierce's hands late and if he's has it going, he's taking it.
2. Ray Allen is the selfish player on Boston. People confuse his FGA attempts with being unselfish, they're wrong. Like WestBrook, Ray is always looking to get his. He just doesn't have the ball in his hands 24/7.
Since the big-3 era, the ratio of Pierce passing to Allen vs Allen Passing to Pierce has to be more than 5-1. And if we're talking assists? Please! Easily close to 10-1.
2.

Well... He stunted him tonight and that trumps any scoring titles or whatever other statistical achievements that you want to bring up. There is no reason for the shot disparity between Westbrook and Durant in tonight's game. This is the playoffs. I don't know enough about OKC to say whether or not this may become a trend or if it was just an odd night, but this series is over if Durant gets more looks tonight and Westbrook tones it down on the scoring attempts... Not a doubt in my mind.
Regular season achievements are nice, but now is when a player truly reveals himself. We will see if Westbrook is the kind of point guard that can bring the best out of Durant in the coming days/weeks, but it didn't look like it tonight.
I hope that it works, because I am honestly rooting for them. OKC could probably afford a brain-fart of a game like that from Westbrook in this series, because they are going to win it anyway, but it does concern me about his mindset and how content he is with simply being a very good point guard on a team with an elite scorer that needs his touches.

dude, im sure you realize westbrook is an important piece on the team. when hes going good they are almost damn unbeatable. hes too good to be an x-factor. he makes dumb mistakes, but this loss is a learning experience. all they gotta do is show him game tape on it like kenny smith said. and ask him, russ is that a good shot? is that one a good shot? no?
if the thunder are gonna win it all (this yr or in future) westbrooks gonna have to play a big role in it. he isnt stunting durant, durant is gonna lead the league in scoring for years.
Of course I know Westbrook is an important piece on our team. Can't I go on a rant about how much I dislike Westbrook without the "fair-weather" and "crying" comments? :confusedshrug:

There is absolutely no reason your PG should have 30 shots in a game. That is inexcusable and his desire to play hero ball is a large reason why they lost this one.

Rose is shooting 35% for his series though, so Russ's 40%FG night is still better.
You dumb fruitbag, both are playing in complete different roles. One has the entire team focusing on him on defense while the other one is playing alongside as a second option. Rose blows westbrook out the water.

lol @ this is not a good analogy.
2.
Uhh...Ray Allen is usually open when given the ball, so he takes the shot. If any Celtic player is open, he should take the shot as said by Doc Rivers. Considering Ray Allen plays well off the ball, you can see why Pierce passes to Allen more than Allen passes to Pierce.

Don't bother arguing with that guy, he's a moron that thinks allen shud pass up open shots he's worked off screens for to pass to pierce...

So true. People seem to have forgotten the series Russ had against the Lakers last playoffs when Durant struggled mightily.
He did take some bad shots down the stretch of the last game. But he's not getting traded nor has he suddenly turned into a "role-player."
He's 22 and playing the most cerebral position in the NBA. He's not a natural point but he can learn to be more patient, set teammates up better, and take shots in the flow of the game.

Why is this one game being scrutinised so bad when there are players shooting worse for entire series so far?
Also it appears Bulls fans don't realise their games are mostly won by their defence and not the MVP carrying them..

The Thunder were on the comeback trail when Russ shot them out of the game. I can understand the scrutiny but I don't get the overreaction.
I realize some of it is due to the Russ/Rose comparisons. I'll concede that Rose has been a better player this season especially at the end of games where the Bulls rely on him to play LeBron ball (from the Cavs days). However, their PERs are essentially the same for the year and the playoffs.
Nevertheless, Russ has a lot of room for improvement and this game showed it. His Usage Rate for this playoffs is second among all starters, a shade below Rose's and about 8 points ahead of Durant's. That will not do.
Part of the blame has to fall on Scott Brooks as well for not calling timeouts and settling Russ down, and also not insisting on the ball getting to Durant more. But that's for another thread.

I think thats a dumb excuse I dont care what your roll is when your shooting 35% and continues to jack up shots thats not gonna help your cause and thats one reason why Indiana has been arms reach of winning every game this series.
Westbrook has been playing good this series pushing the tempo and playing good D but for some reason he was playing angry game 4 and kept jacking up shots but how can people sit up here and call him not elite and say hes got alot to work on but dont fault D-rose for the same exact reasons when Rose does that same thing night in night out that is homerism and is a major reason why I cant respect certain rose fans because they cant admit when their favorite player has faults acting like he's untouchable!
Rose and Westbrook are 22yrs old and they both are and will be elite PG's for a very long time BOOK IT!

Even though he has shot poorly he has stepped up three games out of four to make big shots when his team needed it.
Every team but the Boston has lost a game in their series but it seems as if the Bulls and Rose are taking the most flak.

It isn't fair to compare them because Derrick Rose IS the franchise.
RW is great, but honestly, Durant is the franchise player.
RW has a lot less pressure on him, but said pressure isn't on the level of Rose's.
I'm not saying that RW couldn't step up and be a franchise player, just that he hasn't been asked to....until he does, I don't think he is on Rose's level.

I like Westbrook, but he's not even as good as scorer as people (AND REALLY APPARENT NOW HE HIMSELF) believes. He's great at getting to the basket, finishing, and at getting to the ft line (and making those ft's), but he still can't shoot worth a shit. His .538ts% is incredibly mediocre. He still really needs to work on his jump shot and him taking 30 shots to Durants 18 unless he was really hot is just ridiculous.
