The AP reports: The new kids in town are trying to take over the Western Conference. The Memphis Grizzlies already knocked out the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs and will now face the Oklahoma City Thunder in a series that ensures one of the NBA’s rising young teams will make it to the conference finals. The Thunder and Grizzlies were the league’s two youngest teams at the start of last season, then improved their win totals more than any other teams. That rapid ascent has carried both into the second round of the playoffs, with Game 1 on Sunday in Oklahoma City. “We’re both bad teams that have risen up and become good teams,” Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said Saturday. ” … Our transformations started the same way, and they actually were ahead of us. We’re here, and they’re here.”

The AP reports: Scott Brooks led Oklahoma City to a 27-win improvement last season—from 23 to 50—and was named coach of the year after getting the Thunder into the playoffs.

Let's get it!!

OKC doesnt really seem to run a set offense. couple drive and dish, and ISO. Westbrook doesnt even look to get his team involved as much as he should.

Durant would be crazier offensively if he had a tighter handle. Hes a SF but his handle gets sloppy.

I like this maynard guy, very calm perfect back up point.

Thunder head coach is overrated...Im not seeing coaching at all. I see nothing but ISO, and a drive n kick for a bail out jumper. I dont know the collective talent of OKC, but Westbrooks offseason in gettingbetter at being a PG is crucial for this team.

Plenty of time, but this is going to be a 7 game series I think.

Exactly...Tony Allen moves around alot, opens the floor, gets in key spots better than Gay...Also, when Grizz don't get the play on the first try, they usually pass it off to Gay (and as you said) and the ball becomes dead....With Gay out, Conley might go to drive, get turned down, go back to the top of the key and work insideout...Z-Bo n Conley more shots=Great for this squad.

I'd actually WANT Gay to comeback if I was playing the Grizz.

My god, Gasol just got out of the way and Westbrook drew a foul.

And they aren't getting FT's because they've settled for shooting a lot of jumpers. Until the last few minutes they weren't attacking the rim. Part of that is due to Memphis playing great defense and not giving the Thunder anything easy once they got in the lane.

ThunderKat
05-01-2011, 02:01 PM
They are starting to hussle and play defense. Memphis couldn't miss and that won't continue. It was like game 1 against Denver when they couldn't miss in the 1st half and came back cold. It's hard to play that well for a full game.

Halftime: Grizzlies 57, Thunder 47

Memphis shot 53.2%, OKC shot 44.7%. Barely any threes from either team

Zach Randolph 14 points, 6 rebounds. Sam Young scored 8. Mike Conley 7 points, 5 assists. Gasol 7 points, 5 rebounds.

Russell Westbrook 18 points, more turnovers than assists. Kevin Durant 10 points but on nine shots, and 5 boards.
