View Full Version : I understand why OKC traded for Perkins... but not why they extended him

It made sense for OKC to trade for Perkins because Jeff Green was gonna be gone after this year anyway, and they wanted to give his minutes to Ibaka, so they took the best deal they could get for him which was Kendrick Perkins.

And I know Perkins in theory gives them more of what they were supposed to need, but really.... Perkins just aint that good. I know he was the starter on a championship team but he was the 5th best starter by a wide margin and it's highly unlikely he'd ever be more than 5th best on another title team.

I don't remember the exact dollars but I think OKC is paying him double digit millions per year. Someone correct me if I"m wrong. Even if its like 8.5 or 9M, I don't think he's anywhere near worth that.

nah they're paying him right, decent centers are hard to find these days, and Perk is a decent center. I agree Perk isn't that great, but he's better than most 5's these days, sad to say.

He's coming off an injury. He'll be back at full strength next season.

Perk literally held OKC back for like 5 years after the initial trade year :oldlol:

Thunder were actually a much better team when they had Green, Durant, Westbrook, and Harden all together. That team could have easily made a couple of Finals Appearances against NWO White Hot Heat if that team wouldn't have broke up. Thunder didn't need no damned center if the Heat made it to the Finals with some of the sorriest centers in NBA History on the roster.

People quickly forget how Jeff Green used to be a legit third scoring option after KD and Westbrook, and Harden used to be the black Manu Ginobili off the bench. Thunder basically ****ed off their future franchise just because they wanted some 7 foot stiff from Beaumount Texas, and traded Harden away for a shooting guard that will knock down three pointers for all three quarters, but will brick everything in the 4th, and is even ten times worse on defense than Harden (Kevin Martin).

Players like Acie Earl, Benoit Benjamin, Eric Montross, Pervis Ellison and Yinka Dare woulda probably drop 20 and 10 on a player like Kendrick Perkins in today's league.

I also didn't like how the Thunder got rid of Perry Jones. He was solid last season after Durant got hurt.
