i had a crush on her since Bring it On. Last time i saw her she looked really bad but she looks sort of milf'y here. She aged fast.

this Director is a nut for saying this stuff in public. I hope he's not having sex with Kirsten or i'd be mad.

Wow, I just watched that video and Dunst was looking like, "What the f*ck are you doing?" And she basically leans over to him saying something to the effect of, "Are you serious?" :oldlol:

I busted out laughing when he said he sympathized with Hitler. Then he realized what he said and he's thinking, "Oh shit, why did I just say that?"

Well i think Cannes went overboard and he was definitely joking when he declared himself a Nazi. Considering they're supposed to be so much about freedom of expression even if its taboo, its pretty hypocritical to ban him for that.

That high def pic of Kirsten Dunst just killed it for me. She looks scary close up. Its killing my memory of her from Bring it On damnit :facepalm

I think anyone would would instantly age 10 years and get a death look if they heard their director saying crap like that.

i feel for kirstin dunst. she knows she signed on for a great movie, and everyone's going to like it, but deep in her mind she knows that greatness got shattered in pieces with what lars von tier said. i'm sure some of us can take what he said as a joke, but many people are going to unfortunately look at just his keywords "german", "nazi", "jews", "hitler", and "understanding". :facepalm

 clearly you have absoloutly no concept of what lars von trier is and how he opperates. anyone remotely familiar with lars(personally i find him the most interesting film maker in the world, dont confuse that with neccesarily the best) knows this is just normal behavior for him and doesnt mean anything. part of his whole thing is the disliking he has for the way film marketing is. all the best actors in the world want to work with von trier ALL. this role was originally penelope cruise but she dropped out because pirates 4 bought her dignity(not sure how much but johnny depps was had for 55.5million dollars). this is the single greatest career move for dunst- everyone considers her garbage and the way you prove otherwise is to do a von trier film(witness the offers she gets after she gets universal acclaim for this role). he is famous most of all for giving female actresses their credibility but that comes at the price of having to do rediculously demanding roles for a rediculously demanding director.
cannes is pathetic for doing this- ugh it really annoys me how they know exactly what they are getting into with von trier- thats why they screen all of his films. yet he touches on this issue and they throw him out.

He got banned from cannes for that? Im quite surprised. What i saw was a man who tried to make a joke but failed hard, then tried too make of what he said to sound rational but failed harder. Maybe im wrong. Maybe he does sympathize with hitler. He wasnt able to explain what exactly he understands with hitler though. But i think he explicitly said he did not condone hitler's actions and that he realizes that what hitler did was wrong. Either way, it's kind of an overreaction from the cannes film committee imo or am i just as insensitive? :D

If this ever affects his career it will be for the better. People are curious. They would want too see a movie made by a man who publicly admitted that he was a nazi, even as a jest. Remember the movie the da vinci code? Catholic officials called their followers to boycott the film but many catholics got curious because of that. Then boom, instant box-office hit. Im sure ron howard thanks the vatican for that.

hope you are right. the movie world can be pretty insular at times and if you offend the wrong people, that can make it difficult to get funding etc. The way cannes reacted is what I'm afraid of. I think he made a bad judgement but people have gotten blackballed for less, especially when you go to one of the most taboo topic in continental europe

but I'm definitely not as familiar with him as you are. I have only seen Dancer in the Dark and Dogville, about to watch Antichrist right now. What do you recommend from Von Trier?

I just finished it. it was a difficult watch for me and I was interrupted for like a hour cause of work. The movie was pretty shocking. for me it was like a weird mix of magic realism and exploitation/asian horror film. I really liked the first 3/4 of the film I would say, it was plodding, forest and cabin was very atmoipsheric and the inkling of supernatural evil is unsettling too.

The last 30 mins or so was very squirm inducing and too much for my taste.
What I really liked about the movie is the religious and freudian implications littered throughout, the recurring motif of perversion of maternalism, birth, Eden, and sexuality was very powerful especially with that "twist" in the end. A lot of the imagery probably touches on subjects I'm not even qualified to talk about.

the movie felt mysogynistic at times but that comes with the medieval, religious, images that the movie's invoking. Sometimes the movie was like a collage of symbols mixed in with a little european sadist porn. So there's something for everyone.

I see what you mean about female actress going to Von Trier, all 3 of the movies I seen with him have that devolution of a damsel aspect. gainsbourg puts on great performance. she's pretty talented and good singer too. I'm really excited about melancholia and what trier does with dunst.

thats a solid engagement with it id say, but id disagree with it being misogynistic, writers love to throw that word around and apply it to lars work. i dont think it applys. his female protagonists suffer badly in his films. delve a little deeper and you will see lars has serious issues with his mother, which is fair enough considering what she did to him. but i still dont think its misogyny. i mean the film basically hints at the idea that the devil created the earth and not god, women are closer to nature than men because they give birth so are more evil. you could read that as misogynistic but i dont. female directors put their protagonists through far more self hate/mutilation etc than lars does but when they do it its "empowering women and exploring their sexuality", when lars does it its cause he hates women, same was said about haneke after the piano teacher....this is something ive raised with film scholars before.

to me the film that is the most deeply misogynist i would say is sex and the city 2, also i saw fast 5 on the weekend that was pretty guilty of it also, although it was more the mark of a terrible director that simply does not give a shit about any of his actors.

Oh, wow, that's a tough question. I think festen is better as a film, but I like Idioterne better intellectually, if that makes any sense. I'd say it's maybe rawer and less polished as a work of art, but its certainly deeper and more thought provoking. Festen starts as a seemingly regular film that unfolds into an incredibly dark and awkward situation, it's striking in that sense. Idioterne makes you think and question your own ethics and social conventions, it's intellectually striking. Both great, great films in their own right.

If it makes you feel better to think that. If white women had such a short shelf life they wouldn't be the only women who are universally desired.

I still maintain that Dunst is attractive. Sure, she doesn't have the hip hop video or Jersey Shore look that most of ISH likes, but not every guy likes that.
