Is this the year it officially begins? Magic VS Bird happened when magic was 22 and bird was 25. Durant is 22 and LeBron is 26. It just seems like both of these teams will be matched up in the finals for a long time over the next decade.

It cant be a rivalry if the Heat are gonna win it every year they match up

Thunder won't ever be as good as Miami in this era

The league would love it as a hero/villain storyline.

Lebron/Wade v. Rose and Lebron/Wade v. Melo/Amare are more likely due to conference.

Huh? I think they beat Miami right now in a 7 game series. Thabo,Harden and Westbrook will do a solid job on Wade and Durant has typically won his matchup with Bron. Westbrook will kill their PGs and OKC has much better size down low. Perkins and Ibaka are a great formula for keeping the big 2 out of the lane.

On a slightly unrelated not, man, I really think OKC should have signed Milsap when he was a FA.

Meh. The Magic Bird rivalry existed only because it was debatable who was better between them. There won't be a debate between LeBron and Durant for another couple of years when LeBron falls off, and by that time it'll be similar to the Kobe/LeBron "rivalry" now, where there's no actual competition between them other than the fact that Kobe was the best player, and LeBron is the best now.

Its nor fair doe. Lebron has Wade and Bosh.

The Cs/Lakers rosters were for the most part equal in the 80s

Durant has outplayed LeBron by a fair margin this season, but LeBron outplayed him Durants rookie and 2nd season

Don't count your chickens ... you still got to get past "The Diggler"

As far as the comparison between LeBron / Durant?

Would've been fun last year, given LeBron's skill set and playing style.

Now it would be boring as hell because he's slow, heavy and plays like a psuedo Power Forward ... in other words ... he's boring.

Kind of ... I've actually still manage to see Pierce get by people off the dribble from time to time.

And cross up cats left and right, break ankles, contort his body in mid-air for amazing reverse layups, throw down sick dunks off insane verticle, dominating at precise clutch moments and win MVP? Yes ... he's very entertaining.

More like one is better at everything.

LeBron has a higher regular season PPG, playoff PPG, career high, FG% etc. etc.

Plus isn't he like 7-1 against Durant all time?

lebron & durant years 1-4

they average the same amount of points, durant with much higher efficiency
durant blocks more shots
rebounding is equal
lebron is a better passer
durant averages fewer turnovers
durant is far more clutch

They are equal scorers hence why the produce about the same in similar situations. Would rather have Kobe in his prime than Durant as a scorer and he was less efficient as well. Efficiency doesn't tell the whole story.

Blocked shots isn't that important of a stat for small forwards. I mean c'mon. What is it 1.2 vs .7 per game? lol

Lebron is a better rebounder and you'd have to be clueless to choose Durant over Lebron to be on the court at the SF position if you need a rebound. He's simply stronger and he does have better instincts rebounding.

Yes, Lebron is a better passer.

Durant is prone to fewer mistakes, but Lebron isn't bad unlike Wade.

Durant has never proven much in his career to be thought of as clutch. If clutch is simply scoring late (4th Q)....Lebron does too. If clutch means big shots during the last plays of a game, Lebron hasn't been so clutch throughout his career, but Durant's body of work isn't really there to compare anyways in that sense....Especially not in the playoffs. Don't know where you're getting this idea from.

Durant is a better pure shooter though.

Lebron is a better defender and that's clear as day.

Durant is a great player, but I don't get how anyone can say he's as good as Lebron when taking into consideration all the important parts of a game concerning a small forward. Plus, statistically in the three most important statistics people use, Lebron is head and shoulders above Durant throughout his career.

Durant is a dominant off the ball player and shooter. He can dribble in spurts but it's usually just one or two dribbles out of the triple threat position.

Lebron is the exact opposite. He's mediocre at best off the ball and great when he has the ball in his hands for long periods of time.

They represent opposite styles, but durant is quickly catching up in impact. In the playoffs so far it's really a toss up. I hope we see an OKC-MIA Finals.

Don't mince words. LeBron is straight up horrific without the ball. All he does is float to the corner of the court and watch.

Yea I guess.. I thought he definitely improved from what he was in cleveland. Now he'll actually fight for post position down low and cut once in a while. Still not a good off the ball player though. I don't think he can even catch and shoot off of a cut. He has to either pull up off the dribble or be standing still when he catches it.

The next thing Durant has to improve on to be on Lebron's level, is defense. He is a pretty good defender at the moment. But he needs to be a great defender in order to be on LeBron's level. Durant is already a top 5 player in the league without great defense so that is a great accomplishment by him.

supermechasonic
05-21-2011, 12:45 AM
I will say Lebron fights for post position more. He is good at setting pics for Wade, really good actually. Durant is a much better catch and shoot player. Durant seems to have very little impact on games however if he isn't shooting well. Also, he settles for some hail mary shoots far, far to often.

I still have Lebron ahead of Durant, and I suspect he will be an all around better player for about 2-5 more years. All depends on How good Durant becomes and if Lebron gains back some of his explosiveness, becomes mores killed, etc.

Durant isn't as good as LeBron at running a team. He is the #1 scoring option, not the team-runner like LeBron was in Cleveland. I guess what I'm trying to say is that he doesn't have the skills to be a really good point forward.

wish people would understand these such things....people have fallen in love with the 7 rebs 7 assissts Jazz. Me personally, i don't care to see Durant average any more than 4 assists, 5 at most. His game fits perfectly into any system. His ability to produce with imposing on his teammates game is something special that you dont see in very many superstars that for the most part need the ball in their hands to be great. Durant can kill without ever dribbling the ball. he allows westbrook to be the PG, allows perkins and Ibaka to to be the best on boards, and he handles the scoring and the defending. As far as passing goes you don't need him to facilitate or even look to facilitae all u need from him is to make the passing plays where the opportunity presents itself.

Durant aint on brons level/tier..Durant can't impact a game when he's not scoring.

1st tier

lebron, wade, Cp3 and Dwight

..Durant is the tier below that.

Lebron is a better scorer (dont come at we with that BS TS% nonsese which he only beats lebron out by a hairbecause of his FT shooting but look at their actual true raw FG%....lebron flat out puts the hoop in hole at a better rate)

better passer

better rebounder

better defender

Maybe Im alone But I still Think Lebron has a Chance to look like his old self again if He drops a little bit of Weight.. I think the extra Bulk and a long season of Logging heavy minutes has caught up to him over the 2nd half of the season. If U noticed in preseason and early Regular season Lebron had alot more High Flying plays with this same size..This whole slowing down bit really started after the all star break and During that 5 gm losing streak is when I really noticed it when He couldn't get to the Rim on Drive against Knicks or Bulls to Close gm..

meh...Jordan had multiple falling out's with the Bull's management and teamates not to mention "quitting" in the playoffs vs Detroit, Bird had many altercations off the court that was not good for the team and Kobe has had his issues in a time of multiple media outlets and the internet era.

Exactly.

Dumb ass don't even know what the rivalry really is.

Bird vs Magic was really battle rivalry and they don't even like each other until became friend....even they fought against each other.

There's no really rivalry in the NBA today. They're just too friendly and the rules changed.

The truth is Melo vs LeBron was supposed to be rivalry, they against each other in High School and went the same year NBA Draft but they're just too friendly each other so it's not rivalry.

wade has also played 5000 fewer minutes than james playoffs and regular season combined. 5000/37.6 ( wades min per game for his career) = 133 games.

Wade is 133 games younger, 40-50 pounds lighter and about 4 inches shorter. No surprise that he is still pretty quick.
