View Full Version : 2nd best player of the kobe era?

zay_24
06-05-2011, 05:32 PM
I would say this era starts from 2000-2001 season to 2009-2010. This time period was KOBES point blank.

Now who is the 2nd best player during this stretch?

Shaq- 2 finals mvps, 3 rings

Duncan- 2 finals mvps, 3 rings, 2 mvps

AI- 1 MVP, finals, 3 scoring titles

Wade- 1 finals MVP, scoring title

Lebronze- 2 mvp, finals, scoring title

"I would say this era starts from 2000-2001 season to 2009-2010. This time period was KOBES point blank."

you specifically said 2000-2001... if your going from 2001, then kobe has one less ring.

There used to be a time when the disturbing obsession and overrating of kobe bryant was genuine. That was the time I liked to really roll up my sleeves and argue with his creepy fanboys.

Now it's just forced for the purpose of trolling. It's completely lost its charm and I've lost the interest to bother.

Kobe is arguably the most popular NBA player in the world.

Not to mention his stretch..

2006- NBA scoring champ, all defensive first team
2007- NBA scoring champ, all defensive first team
2008- MVP, finals, all defensive first team
2009- Finals MVP, all defensive first team
2010- Finals MVP, all defensive first team

5 60 point games in this stretch i also believe, plus a gold medal

Mid 00's best player Duncan.
Late 00's best player Kobe/Lebron (take your pick).

Also, OP is clearly a troll. He made a thread about Duncan being overrated, etc. I think if we all ignore him, he might go away. You know what they say about retards....they take you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.

Shaq and Duncan dominated from 99 to 07. I guess 08 to 10 could be called the Kobe era because of his team success.

Shaq was only 2nd best for 2 years...00' he was slightly better becuase Kobe was just too young....

by 2001 Kobe was widely considered the best allaround player in the NBA..and by far the #1 option in the 4th quarters....and had a historic playoff run in witch Shaq said himself Kobe was the best allaround player in the NBA.

Nope, a lot of NBA players and coaches would probably tell you the same thing.

And lets not get into technicalities here. What I meant by decade was 2000-2010. So Kobe actually has 3 finals, two rings, 2 FMVPS, and 1 MVP as the undisputed leader as his team.

And I believe that Kobe and Shaq were 1A and 1B for two out of three of their rings playing together.

Also, Shaq was not the leader of that 06 Heat team. That honor definitely goes to Wade.

Kobe was 1B in 2001, but we can argue about 2002. I think he was between 1B and 2. Can't say which one exactly IMO.

If we're talking about hole career runs as a leader;
Shaq as a leader; 5 finals, 3 rings, 3fmvps, 1 mvp
Duncan as a leader; 4 finals, 4 rings, 3fmvps, 2 mvps
Kobe as a leader; 3 finals, 2 ring, 2 fmvp, 1 mvp

For only his Haters -

Kobe was far and away the leader in the 4th quarters of the first 3 peat
Kobe averaged 9.2 ppg on 64% shooting in fourth quarters. Shaq averaged 4.5 ppg on 29% ..so Kobe was def the "man" during the most important part of the game....and IMO more important overall.

Kobe was at best the 4th best player of the past decade. Shaq, Duncan, LeBron were all better players than him. Shaq was the best for '00-'01, '01-'02, '02-03, '03-'04, Duncan was the best from '04-'05, '05-'06, Kobe was the best player for the '06-'07 season, but after that LeBron has been the best player in '07-'08, '08-'09, '09-'10, and '10-'11.

Kobe really shouldn't even have an MVP.

Why is the fourth more important than the first? If someone scores 10ppg in the first, but only 5ppg in the 4th and someone else only scores 6ppg in th first and 8ppg in the fourth then the person that scores more in the first is more valuable. Shaq was clearly better than Kobe for anyone that can see. With or without stats Shaq was better, possibly than any player that has ever played during that time span.

Further proving my point that online hard core fans that view themselves as "basketball elitists" are a very small %.....

using flawed stats and complex formula's to prove Louis Williams is a better clutch player then Kobe...is silly.

and there's a reason that Most fans don't view sports/basketball in that light....in fact IMO elitists fans ruin sports as a whole.

Watching Shaq's whole career...he was a great player...But I would take Kobe , Duncan and LBJ over him....skill wise he lacked and relied mostly on size and strength....without Kobe played on over 6 , 50 win teams capable of winning a title...he won 1.

This isn't just the Kobe Era.
This whole 2000-2010 is the Kobe Shaq Duncan Era!
As all of the finals those years featured at least one of them.

Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Dirk.

These were the three franchise players who were getting at least 50 wins EVERY YEAR.

Revisionist history at its best.

04-05 34-48
05-06 45-37
06-07 42-40

There was no "Kobe era."

Because 2010 doesn't belong to 2000s decade.

It probably does. In both Christian calendars, there's no "year 0", so decade counting goes from 1 to 10, not 0 to 9.

Besides 2005-06, is there any year you can make a legit argument for Kobe being the best player in the NBA? Even in 2005-06, he wasn't the clear cut best. So how can this be "the Kobe era" when he has never been the clear cut best player in the NBA?

I would say this era starts from 2000-2001 season to 2009-2010. This time period was KOBES point blank.

Now who is the 2nd best player during this stretch?

Shaq- 2 finals mvps, 3 rings

Duncan- 2 finals mvps, 3 rings, 2 mvps

AI- 1 MVP, finals, 3 scoring titles

Wade- 1 finals MVP, scoring title

Lebronze- 2 mvp, finals, scoring title

The 2nd best Kobe era would be Duncan or Shaq. Kobe is third.

Like others have said, 7 Finals, 5 rings etc etc...

There is Jordan Era

& then there is

"Post-Jordan Era"

no such thing as "Shaq Era" "Kobe Era" "Duncan Era" "Lebron Era"

Inspirations, cheap immitations, copy cats cannot have eras named after them.

btw

kobe himself is 2nd or even 3rd-4th best player of '00-'09 Decade.

His ordinary finals performance san 2009 finals proves that point.

collecting 5 rings under shaq's shadow despite loosing 2 finals as favorites counts for little.

His 2010 finals performance is very little to even talk about. He was just pure average or even below average. despite being in his prime.

All this doesnt help him, actually hurt him as best player of the '00 decade.

'00-'09 Decade:

Best players as follows

1. Shaq (sheer dominance in early decade)
2. Duncan (most efficient)
3. Lebron = Kobe tie
4. Iverson = Wade

The only reason it's the Jordan era is because there was no competition. Bird and Magic fell off, and Shaq/Kobe/Timmy/etc didn't come on until Jordan's last few years.

EricForman

Some "Kobe era"

from that 9 year stretch:

he wasn't the best player, CLEARLY, on his own team for 3 years (1/3 of the "era")

he wasn't the best player in the league, CLEARLY, for at least 5 of the 9 years (more than 50% of the era)

his team got DESTROYED in the finals in 2004 and beat somewhat badly in 08. His team was the favorite both times going into series.

his team blew a 3-1 lead.

SOME ERA.

Yes, Jordan just got really lucky because all the players in his era was trash and every great player from the 80s SUDDENLY hit old age mysteriously in 1991.

Yes you're so right. Oh wait, wasn't Magic still virutally in his prime in 91? And how did the Pistons win back to back champs, including a dominating 1990 finals, but then suddenly became ancient by 91? I also coulda sworn the guys Jordan beat in the 90s were also playing damn well in the 80s alongside Magic and Bird.

Didn't Jordan, at 39 in 2002, more than held his own and was still a top 12 player in the league during the time when Tmac and prime Shaq and Kobe were running wild?

Yes, LA Showtime, you're right, Jordan totally couldn't have hung in the 80s or 2000s, he just got lucky and played in the 90s when bums like Chuck and Hakeem were playing.

Oh wait, didn't Hakeem and Chuck put up insane numbers, sh*t like 28/14/5/3 in the EIGHTIES?

this

'00-'04 clearly belonged to Shaq. His sheer size & dominance was of modern day Wilt. he was unstoppable.

'07-'10 belong to Lebron. back-2-back MVPs. 2 60+ reg seasons & finals appearance as a sole lone warrior.

'00-'05 Duncan is there as 2nd best as most efficient franchise player. 2 MVPs. 3 Finals MVPs

'06 -wade is there with his wild PO & Finals Performance.

Kobe might actually be 3rd best of '00-'09 decade.

I always thought Kobe not winning '04 finals MVP & not having '08 MVP sweep (reg sea & Finals MVP) will actually hurt him

& it really does.

Imagine kobe having 7 rings with no finals losses & 3-4 Finals MVPs. Shaq's legacy was under threat as Kobe being the most dominant of '00-'09 decade

Kobe was 1B in 2001, but we can argue about 2002. I think he was between 1B and 2. Can't say which one exactly IMO.

If we're talking about hole career runs as a leader;
Shaq as a leader; 5 finals, 3 rings, 3fmvps, 1 mvp
Duncan as a leader; 4 finals, 4 rings, 3fmvps, 2 mvps
Kobe as a leader; 3 finals, 2 ring, 2 fmvp, 1 mvp

Kobe is the last again. Duncan won 1999 and Kobe won 2010. One year before 00s and one year after 00s.

lol at all you clowns breaking shit down year by year thinking this had anything to do with that. The fact is Kobe was the fan favorite basketball player on earth from 2001 to 2010 by all of the fans, media, and sportsworld.

Kobe was getting 'next Jordan' hype since before 2001, but specifically in that year too because of his insane production, defense, and clutch performances.

Then he had his 'Jordan' moments where he put on some of the most amazing scoring/basketball performances in the history of the game in the 06 to 08 span. Mad hype here too.. haters all said he couldn't win w/o Shaq

He wins w/o Shaq. Twice.. and with some of the best perimeter player playoff statlines/performances in the history of the game[for those who also won the FMVP].

This whole era in the media was about Kobe. He was the head story.. the Jordan hype-->the Jordan individual performances-->the winning. Kobe copied MJ's career, except in a much smaller volume[he had less great individual years and less winning overall]. Shaq and Duncan didn't catch near the amount of attention as Kobe from 2001 to 2010.
