View Full Version : Mark Jackson Hired as Warriors Coach!

Rekindled
06-06-2011, 09:01 PM
“After an extensive search and a great deal of consideration, we have come to the conclusion that Mark Jackson is the best coach for this team,” said Warriors’ General Manager Larry Riley. “He will bring a youthful and fresh approach to our team and the fact that he enjoyed a stellar playing career, where he served most of that time as the leader of some very successful teams, will prove invaluable in the long run. We were looking for a coach with leadership ability and a strong personality and believe Mark possesses those qualities. He’s very well respected in NBA circles, is a consummate professional and his knowledge and background will be an incredible asset for our team and organization.”

He stole it from a boxing term... Meaning that if you don't put your hands up (hand down) you're gonna get knocked out (man down). :oldlol: So in basketball it basically means the same. If you don't put your hands up in the shooters face (hand down) then he'll knock the shot down easily (man down).

He's going to be a "cornball motivational coach" with mediocre X's & O's who doesn't really even truly motivate his own players in a significant way. He'll probably hang his hat publicly on some bogus moral claims of fathering them, when in reality he's a phony they won't respect. God forbid he takes that same group and tries to make them a defensive team. I can't see this going well for Mark Jackson. He's not a serious or intelligent man.

I don't know. You can't really base commentating on coaching because it's not the same thing. I doubt Mike Brown, Kevin McHale, etc... are gonna say anything close to the same things they say on TV for entertainment purposes. They might have some of the same concepts/philosophies but they're not gonna sit there and make catch phrases and gimmicks.

Breen is so wishy washy as an announcer, so everytime Breen/Van Gundy have paired (without Jackson), JVG makes his usual outlandish statements and Breen just kind of laughs or doesn't give much of an objection. Whereas MJ actually makes it interesting and funny by calling him out. And the former coach/player dynamic they have going on is also interesting. Gonna miss that duo, he's the one who makes JVG bearable.

3) Other news Jackson finds regret after taking on job... realizing he will look like JVG in a couple years.... Ask's Warriors if there is a clause to vacate position like Nellie did.

In all seriousness probably silly to pretend to know how he'll coach off what he says during broadcasts. Not like ESPN is paying him to break down the game and be boring. Job is to call the game with some style and try and bring entertainment to it.

Hope he does well. Actually liked him calling games. Comments were so forced seemed funny to me.

Yeah. I don't get why people are calling him unintelligent either. You can really gather that just by listening to someones color commentary? If we were to go off of that, I think it would be unanimous that JVG was a complete moron as a coach but we all know that's not the case.

So says a jack@ss posting in a basketball forum. Do you know how ridiculous your statement is?

I'd be willing to bet that you never watched Mark Jackson as a player. He was a true 'coach on the floor' and one of the best assist facilitators in league history -- in fact he's at #3, right behind Kidd and John Stockton.

It's a boxing term. When the opponent would keep his hands down then BOOM KO, goodnight! (hand down = man down) Jackson says it when the defender doesnt' put his hand up to contest a shot.

No hand in a good shooters face = easy basket = man down (for getting scored on)
