Head coach Vincent Collet just announced the French squad that will compete in this summer's Eurobasket. This is the deepest roster France has had in a while and is stacked more than usual in terms of NBA players and sheer talent.

Tony Parker / Antoine Diot / Yannick Bokolo
Mickael Pietrus / Nando De Colo
Nicolas Batum / Mickael Gelabale
Boris Diaw / Ali Traore / Florent Pietrus
Joakim Noah / Ronny Turiaf

Alternates: Kevin Seraphin, Andrew Albicy, Fabien Causeur

All but four players have NBA experience and Nando De Colo's rights are held by the Spurs. Should be interesting to see these guys against Spain, Russia, Turkey, and Greece.

They'll beat Israel and Italy.

De Colo should be a starter, he's a good player.

There's two sides to the court and De Colo only plays one of them. His defense blows. He's best suited to being a facilitator/scorer off the bench.

Russia and Turkey look good too.

Russia's gonna have Holden, Kirilenko, Kaun, Mozgov, Vorontsevich, and Khryapa.

Turkey will have Onan, Ilyasova, Turkoglou, Asik, Kanter, and Savas.

Serbia will be a threat as always.

Greece won't have Diamantidis and Bourousis.

Italy will rely on Belinelli, Gallo and Bargs

Mancinelli / Gigli
Bargnani / Crosariol

we won't go far...

Neither one of them has said they won't play officially. It is 100% media speculation based on the two of them being douche bags and a-holes and that they claim to quit all the time.

Anyway, Greece has more than enough players that they don't need them. Koufos and Sofo at center and Spanoulis, Zisis, Calathes, Vasileiadis at guard, and Papaloukas would be another option I guess for a few minutes.

I've heard Kanter is more of a alternate, Savas will probably play big minutes.

Italy's national team is disgusting to watch, they rely way too heavily on iso's for Bellinelli and Bargnani. Last summer, there were regularly games where they're 3rd leading scorer had 6-8 points. They've got some other good players like Dan Hackett and especially Stefano Mancinelli, they've just got to use them better and move the ball more.

The best current Italian roster IMO would be:
Mordente / Hackett
Bellinelli / Basile / Aradori
Mancinelli / D'Atome / Soragna
Gallinari / Gigli
Bargnani/ Crosiariol

Well, I agree on your judgement on last year's Italy basketball, but now we have coach Pianigiani (from Siena) who will probably change things a lot for the better + Gallinari

Anyway Pianigiani seems to favour Maestranzi at the 1 spot more than Hackett.
Personally I strongly dislike Mancinelli: very low IQ (...not bball IQ, just IQ) despite being quite talented - Portland wanted to sign him some years ago. But if he plays, he will play at the 4, with Gallo at the 3.

Basile and Soragna aren't in the national team anymore.

That's good to hear, he does an excellent job for Siena so hopefully it'll translate it to the national team. I didn't know you were from Italy! What do you think the roster will be? Maestranzi at the 1 and Hackett at the backup 2? Who else will fill out the roster?

Mancinelli is a douche bag but he's got a lot of talent even after being a knucklehead. He's very athletic, versatile and plays tough.

He is 1-2 Guard

Well with that Sg position they played Finals on Euro and semies on WC so its working for them, they have Tripkovic who is pure shooter, one of the deadiliest in Europe and Paunic who is atheltic as hell

kaktus14
06-16-2011, 09:51 AM
Also French will do ok in this Eurobasket, with moving thre epoint line this season court is now looking more like NBA one which more room to drive, which will obviously go to their advantage and teams will have more difficult job to fill in the paint and just force them to shoot from outside which was always game plan to beat them in recent years

And I see Turkey as being one of the most dissapoint teams on eurobasket, its one thing when they play home but now in Lithuania it will be completly different story and I dont think they are Elite team in Europe

Spain will probably win it all, nobody can cope with Gasol Brothers, Pau was always too dominating in Europe, and they also get benefit of the doubt when it comes down to refs ,especially with their theatrical way of playing or you can just call it flopping, Reyes,Navarro,Calderon are masters of that:facepalm

Should be interesting to see these guys against Spain, Russia, Turkey, and Greece.lol, they all from black africa or the carabeans. At least spain, italia russia and other european countries have white players. France national teams never ever mesh well. Same for soccer. Only in rugby...because most players are...white and actually from france. Funny isnt it?

I wouldn't call us patriotic when talking about the Spanish national team lol
But yeah, I don't care what his passport is, he should play for Congo.
This. I hate that whole "naturalized player" bullshit.

Damn, Serbia's SG line is pretty awful. And isnt Rasic a PG?

He's a combo guard, more of a shoot first guy.

Who's going to be Spain's 4th big?

Will Claver slide up to the 4 or Mirotic suit up?

That's the most racist and ignorant comment I've read on this site. So what you mean is that because they're black they don't do well together?

And retard, it's spelled Caribbean and all of the french players got their french passports before they even joined the national team. That is, foreigners move to another country and grow up there and in these guys cases they became great ballers, they'd have their french passport even if they wouldn't have had touched a basketball in their life. And the Caribbean players are from french oversea regions.

And if you're gonna write a comment like that, at least tell the truth, Russia has Robert Holden who became "russian" just for basketball causes. Germany has Demond Green among many others, Ibaka is gonna play for Spain. Greece has Schortsanitis who's dad is macedonian and his mother i from Cameroon and he's born there as well. Chris Kaman is playing on the german because one of his great-grandparents were german and he doesn't even know a word.

Even USA has used foreign player a la Hakeem Olajuwon...

Koufos is awful.

Vougioukas, Mavroeidis, Tsartsaris, and even Mavrokefalidis playing some minutes at C, despite his crappy D, are better options.

Again, you are an idiot.

Teodosic / Markovic
Rasic / Tripkovic / Paunic
Bjelica / Keselj
Velickovic / Savanovic / Macvan
Krstic / Rakovic

This squad will be problem for anyone (as usual). They can beat any team in the tournament, but they also can lose to some BS team, or the refs can screw them big time (a la Turkey)...

That Serbian squad that you suggest is too weak to medal.

Euroleague

Also French will do ok in this Eurobasket, with moving thre epoint line this season court is now looking more like NBA one which more room to drive, which will obviously go to their advantage and teams will have more difficult job to fill in the paint and just force them to shoot from outside which was always game plan to beat them in recent years

And I see Turkey as being one of the most dissapoint teams on eurobasket, its one thing when they play home but now in Lithuania it will be completly different story and I dont think they are Elite team in Europe

France has very weak offense with their selection. They can't score enough points to medal against that level of competition.

They definitely can medal. They shouldn't win it all but I can definitely see them on the podium (Or out in the first round, you never know). They have had success with worse shooting teams.

They don't have enough scoring on that team. There are too many good teams in the tournament, for them to win it, or I think even medal because with weak scoring as a team they will have a couple of off games and get beat.

Russian 2011 national team:

PG: Anton Ponkrashov/Dmitri Khvostov
SG: Sergey Bykov/Evgeny Voronov
SF: Vitaly Fridzon/Yevgeni Kolesnikov
PF: Alexander Kaun/Sergey Monya
C: Timofey Mozgov/Alexey Zhukanko

Plenty of new faces, but they will do very good. They only lost twice in the WC's last year, and it was against Turkey and USA.

Is this official? Looks very weak.

Where's Kirilenko, Holden (retired today, but said he may still suit up), Shved, Khryapa, Sokolov, Vorontsevich, and Keyru?

No way Kaun and Mozgov start together, there's absolutely no back to the basket or perimeter threat. Ponkrashov is a horrible shooter, he'll probably back up Bykov if Holden doesn't play.

My guess for Russia:
Holden (or Bykov) / Ponkrashov / Khostov
Fridzon / Shved
Kirilenko / Monia
Khryapa / Vorontsevich
Mozgov / Kaun / Sokolov

I think Viktor Keyru deserves a spot, but he probably won't be picked.

Thanks for posting this, I was going to ask if anyone had any idea about the Serbian roster.

Rakovic instead of Perovic? What about Raduljica or Marjanovic? Tripkovic and Paunic instead of Tepic?

Too bad they didn't consider the explosive youngster Nedovic.

Well, I'd like to see Rakovic (or Raduljica) instead of Perovic and Tripkovic instead of Tepic, Paunic already played on last Eurobasket and WC.

Yeah, too bad for Nedovic. I wanted him to at least do training with the team, he needs that kind of experience. He did the predraft tests this year and his vert is 41 inch, damn good...

Jasi won't start, I don't even know if he will be in the roster now :(

How about Kleiza? Is he injured or something?

EDIT: Nevermind my comment, I've just read about Jasi's return to the national team :) Wow

He's healthy, but his team won't allow him to play using excuse that injury he had takes atleast 9 months to heal... It's been confirmed that he's totaly healthy however.

Well apparently they had enough scoring to be the 3rd best offensive team in the tournament (actually the best team if you don't count the slugfest against Greece).
