If it was two white guys putting barkley in a headlock while some guy pounded his face in it would be racist and nothing to lol about right?

http://www.nba.com/celtics/history/110703_ALookBack.html

In the aftermath, the NBA Office handed out a grand total of $30,500 worth of fines. The two prime combatants, Bird and Erving were each assessed a pink slip of $7,500 each. M. L. Carr and Moses Malone each drew a $3,000 fine, Charles Barkley $1,000 for fighting and Bill Cunningham a $2,500 setback for post game comments. 12 other players (six from each team) each drew a fine of $500 for leaving their respective bench during the melee.

It seems no suspensions were handed out only fines.

This is a better video of the fight with the old converse commercial they did with each other at the start.

The video game was released in 1983, fight 1984. Im not sure but I think the commercial is pre 84.

Here is another commercial from 85 with Magic as well.

I doubt that really "taught Bird a lesson though" Dude was crazy and didn't seem to really take any shit from anyone. Good teamwork though. If a man is doggin your team, best to rough him up the good ol' fashioned way.

Funny thing is listening to the announcers move right over into calling the fight like a boxing match. CAlling shots and blows. Callling out players who ganged up on others. Instead of nowadays where announcers would have their panties in a bunch for every player coming off the bench to stand around on court. Announcers like Mark Jackson would be flipping out, demanding suspensions (for everyone but star players).

The world has changed. It's gotten pussified in many ways, and not for the better. The game has gotten soft in general, and the announcers have gone meekly and happily along with it.

That's the truth. Bird was bringing it. Not taking anyone's bs, but walking it back on those mfers. And still fighting even when getting 3v1'd.

Mike tirico would lose his mind, if this ever happened when he was calling a game. When bynum hit barea, he called it " "That's one of the biggest bush league things I have ever seen." .. :oldlol: . I would've gave a leg just to hear what tirico would've had said when artest shut down the Palace in detroit.

I believe the backstory to the fight was Bird had 42 points to Dr. J's 6 points and he kept point that out to Dr. J. who took exception.

[QUOTE] Boston was well on their way to winning the game when the bad blood started. Bird had put up a tremendous 42 points and seven rebounds by the fourth quarter, and supposedly took every opportunity to remind the Doctor of his running tally. The bad vibes

I like watching Boston but Kg would have got his ass kicked worse than Bird if he would have played in that 80s era. KG was quiet as a church mouse and humble as hell when Barkley,Oakley, Mason, Rodman, Dale Davis and all the other 90s power forward thugs that dominated the NBA back then. Sheed Wallace, and Iverson stood up to them NBA veterans like men, while KG pretended to by the nice young teenage kid with skills who was cordial to the veterans as well as his peers. Soon as all the NBA goons retired/ or got waived, kg wanna act like he such as badass now.

Wow no suspensions handed out at all. You would never see that in today's NBA.

They suspend star players for finals games now.

That was for the accumulation of excessive flagrant foul points. :confusedshrug:

I don't honestly see a problem with that in theory:

The NBA puts a rule in place, thus player breaks rule, player suffers the consequences.

But to retrospectively call a foul a day after the game is just straight up wack.
