Judging by your iTunes pic... yeah you probably wouldn't dig on that too much.

However, a lot of the people producing your music either have mad respect for, grew up listening to, or straight-up sample, a lot of the kind of music I jam out to.

Motorhead is great. Their run from '77 to about '82 was incredible. People usually say Ace of Spades was their best album but I think Overkill is better. It's their best from top to bottom.

Which is why I'm digging my current Rhapsody subscription.

If I wanna try out something new, I don't have to download an entire album or collection. I can just stream it, create a playlist, or if I wanna listen to it on the go I can download it.

I'm just waiting for its mobile streaming quality to improve, and I'll be in heaven.

I rarely listen to music from my iTunes now that I have Rhapsody.

I can kinda see where you're coming from, but at which point is it enough?

How far would you need to hear for you to decide that said artist isn't good tho?

I understand that one must give an artist a proper chance, because not everything by an artist is gonna be bad (or good), but what's the limit?

Just wondering.

I always do it the same way, I ask a fan of that artist what their best albums are, what best represents their sound, and then I listen to those albums front to back. I'd say that's enough to me. If you like them, you can branch out to other albums if you want. And even then I really don't have an opinion until I've listened to everything. It's harder for some artists like Zeppelin because each album is so different and you have to look at them with a much broader perspective than say Motorhead. Most recently on this site I've done that with Porcupine Tree, Bruce, and Muse. Fans always know best.

Gotcha, that makes perfect sense.

I probably don't do it to the same extent as you do, but I try to give artists a proper chance (for the most part... some just suck right from the start), in a similar fashion. I just won't listen to everything (or mostly everything) like you do, just enough for me to like or dislike. At times an artist isn't necessarily good, but I'll still enjoy their music. At times the artists are good, but I'm not feeling their music (for whatever reason).

I get you. I love listening chronologically to gauge how an artist or group matured. Kyuss only had three studio albums. Their first was nothing special to me, very basic music and actually kind of annoying. Listened to their second was generally surprised, I liked it much more, and then I listened to the third and was blown away. It was exactly the kind of music I was looking for. Goddamn I love progressive.

And It's great getting to listen to an artist like that. Their first album by no means is bad, but compared to their third It's rather juvenile. It sounds like a shitty garage band when you put it into context. And then the third...damn, great stuff.

Hmmm, maybe I will. If I do it will be tomorrow though.

And yes. On the computer files the 'The(s)' go under T, but iTunes recognizes the second word as the predominant one (which is much better).

'The Band' is under B
'The Kinks' is under K
'The Velvet Underground' is under V etc

Much easier than having everything with 'The' in it going under T, tbh.

I tried Spotify but I need pristine quality. The only album on my iTunes that isn't 320 kbps is a Bob Dylan bootleg that isn't available in higher quality, and one of my Otis Redding's albums.

I've bought the CDs (which I then rip onto iTunes) for about 100 of my albums.

The rest I have downloaded illegally, which I'm somewhat conflicted about, but I'm not going to spend

Oh, you download them from some site onto your Computer/into iTunes, but how do you get that crystal clear sound then? You have certain sites or just download wherever you can?

Torrent it. Depending on the popularity of the album, finding a full CDQ link shouldn't be that hard. If not, I just keep downloading them until I find the right quality one.

And yes, it's very simple. Download album, then go onto iTunes and click 'add folder', then the whole album is on there and you can edit info/covers and stuff.
