This. The OP is a f*cking imbecile. I go to Johns Hopkins, known as one of the premier institutions for pre-med undergraduates. I know loads of people who have decent MCAT scores and 3.5+ GPAs who at best get into sub-par medical schools. And that's with respectable research backgrounds AND strong resumes AND the reputation of an incredibly difficult and strong science/research undergraduate program backing it.

You clearly don't know what the hell you are talking about and are embarrassing yourself. Oh, and these are people who are very personable and have strong recommendations from VERY respectable professors, so get the f*ck out of here dumbass. In the graduate school/work game, there is undeniable weight to the "brand name" of universities - in particular a 3.3 at a "lower-ranked" university is less valued, all things equal, than a 3.3 at a university such as MIT.
