This is what I wonder about. There are plenty of lyrically gifted African American rappers who aren't anywhere near the success level of Eminem. I think Em is definitely the best emcee in the game, but if he were a black dude rapping the way he does, we'd have forgotten about him, just like we forgot about Cannabis. :confusedshrug:

Eminem's lyrical ability is much higher than most rappers'.. I think people forget that he got his start at rap by dominating freestyle competitions. He wasn't just some average rapper that made it on his connects.. Em made it on raw talent. He's like a streetballer that was discovered on the streets and brought to the pros and quickly became one of the best in the league. His quick delivery, sense of humor, wordplay, and overall lyrics/flow are miles ahead of any rapper today and they are top of the line all time.

Eminem's ability to insert his personality and emotion into his songs is second only to Pac.. Another great thing about him is that he has two distinct styles that his songs fall into varying from serious stuff like Kim, Stan, Sing for the Moment to funny stuff like Slim Shady, My Band, Without me, Etc. Hes the only great rapper that really has that big of a distinction between his different songs.. its like he has two totally different sides to him.

Lupe is more creative, more deep conceptually and technically in the sense that he uses things like allegory and such.

i'd compare him more to shaq. divisive within rap (both with rappers and fans) but still respected, most dominant during his prime, and a household name. might not be the best at any one thing but overall he is a force.

I can't believe people think Lil Wayne is a potential GOAT rapper... he is rapping in a weak ass era with no competition, he weasels into every single hot beat, spits the same diluted lyrics about either swag, hoes, or money, sticks in an "original" line or pun here and there and bam hes better than every other rapper out now because no one tries anymore. Lil Wayne is nothing more than a really flashy commercial that catches your attention. The lack of depth in his whole persona really reflects the lack of depth in the average rap fans tastes. Hot beat + some lines about swag which i could repeat to my friend = GOAT rapper.

And don't even get me wrong, I like him, Ive liked him since the block is hot and the old cash money shit, I like his style. But to say hes had anything locked down its ridiculous.

I'm not particularly a big fan of Eminem, and it took a while for me to actually really pay close attention to his lyrics and natural ability to emcee. After awhile, you can't help but realize and come to the conclusion he's one of the best to ever do it.

I totally agree on the he made pointless and watered down music for the most part of his career, which is mainly why I'm not a fan. However, to say he isn't super talented would be rap discussion blasphemy.
