Wanna share my experience during the first game vs. the PBA All-Stars to yall.
I was looking for lower box tickets but the sponsors and scalpers hogged them all, so I had to settle with Upper Box B, which was unreserved seating - meaning you really have to be that dedicated and big of a fan to survive the hassle you'll get into and as expected, I underwent through a lot before watching.
I had to stand for like 5-6 hours in the line waiting for the arena to open. I absolutely did NOTHING since my phone's net was lagging as hell and I couldn't go to somewhere else anymore or else I'd lose my spot. I was stuck with a lot of people who I dont know in the line. I'll admit, I can't even feel my feet right now. That was the price I had to pay for getting these first come, first served tickets. I backed down at first when they said only that area was available but I was like "f--- that" and still went on to watch since this is probably my only realistic chance of watching current NBA players - better yet SUPERSTARS, play in the same roof as where I was. I mean, i'm talking about the dudes that I only watch either on TV or on a shtty internet stream. In the end, it was worth it.
Crowd loved Kobe and D-Rose the most. McGee was the first one to come out of the tunnel. He did a BASIC two handed dunk and the crowd already went nuts and erupted. Lmao. smh :facepalm - that showed how much most of us Pinoys love basketball I guess. You gotta appreciate the passion nonetheless.
Then came DRose. We went nuts the minute he came in the court for the warm-ups. He was welcomed with a lot of "MVP! MVP!" chants.
The roof was about to explode when Kobe came out. He didn't warm up, he just showed up when it was time for the intros and US/Philippine anthem.
The PBA does have some talent, but it just showed how much of a gap there was. To be fair, some PBA players had their moments, though. You can also combine the fact that they were starstruck as hell. I mean just like what I said, how would you feel when you're in the same court, playing and guarding Kobe f***ing Bryant, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, etc? I think the PBA players concentrated and spent more effort on getting the NBA players' autographs than playing the game.
Kobe was Kobe. Obviously took it easy but it was a pleasure watching him play, still cant believe it.
DRose was just alright too. He had that sick alley-oop from Kobe and at times, drove to the rim with ease. He took a lot of J's in the warm-ups and in the game. I think he mostly spent his time more in the perimeter than the paint area.
CP3 looked heavy and fatter. He got stripped twice by Jason Castro (an energetic PG from the PBA) but like Kobe and literally everyone, he played just for fun. Jumper was nice.
Durant was cold blooded. He was money throughout the whole game.
McGee was just a nightmare. He looked and played like prime Wilt Chamberlain out there. There was even a sequence where he had a nasty dunked then sprinted for a FULL COURT CHASE DOWN BLOCK. Lol. Just lol. And i'm sure you guys know the plank already. Plain beast. Kinda ironic btw, that he was playing under the "SMART NBA All-Stars." if you get what I mean. :oldlol: He would easily be a stud if he had a brain.
Derrick Williams was alright. I could definitely see the potential in him. Had a couple nice dunks and his J was nice. Could be solid in the future.
Tyreke had his moments. If I can recall correctly, he had 3 sick anklebreakers/crossovers during the game. His jumpshot to my surprise got better. I wouldn't be surprised if he straight up beasts again next season.
DFish was absolutely horrible. Enough said.
Harden was sick. His J was money as well since the warm-ups. Had some nice throwdowns too.
Overall, a fun and enjoyable experience for me. Great treat for us Pinoys who could only watch these guys on TV.
And I wasnt surprised that Gilas did better than the PBA stars. Gilas has more chemistry, has a better system and is suited more for serious competition. They also have more size and have a naturalized player compared to the PBA guys.

SMART-Gilas gives Kobe and co. a good workout
Compared to the PBA selection, the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team was expected to be more competitive against Kobe Bryant and his band of basketball superstars. That proved to be true, although the Philippine team still fell short against the SMART All-Stars, 98-89.
The nationals started off very gamely, with forward Japeth Aguilar finishing with a thunderous jam early in the 1st quarter. They would stick close for most of the period, before the NBA players closed off the first quarter with a 6-0 run to break the game wide open, 28-16.
The SMART All-Stars would lead by as much 21 points in the game, as they were able to get into transition often in the 3rd quarter. However, their chase for the highlight plays that the fans asked for proved to be the cause for a small collapse, allowing SMART-Gilas to get as close as eight points, 92-84, with 2:30 to go in the game.
Despite SMART-Gilas coach Rajko Toroman’s assertions that they wanted to win, he waved the proverbial white flag soon after that as he pulled Marcus Douthit from the game in favor of rarely-used Jason Ballesteros in the closing minutes. The naturalized center had energized the team in the fourth quarter with several big plays, including a huge putback dunk off of a missed Marcio Lassiter three-pointer.
The game was considerably chippier than the SMART All-Stars matchup with the PBA selection on Saturday night, with SMART-Gilas committing several hard fouls on their American guests.
NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant, in particular, was introduced to the hard hits of veteran Asi Taulava and looked visibly frustrated for the first time in the two games. Dondon Hontiveros also played Bryant physically in the fourth quarter, although the SMART All-Stars playing coach seemed to take it in stride, flashing a good-natured smile afterwards.
But the game was not without its lighter moments, as the NBA stars obviously wanted to please the crowd. Egged on by the enthusiastic crowd after the ball was stuck between the backboard and the shot clock, JaVale McGee attempted to tip it off himself instead of waiting for the arena staff to poke it off with a stick.
As awestruck as the Filipino fans were of their NBA idols, they went completely bonkers when pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao made his entrance early in the fourth quarter. He would visit the NBA stars during a timeout and spent time conversing with Bryant and the rest of the team before play resumed.
When asked how many rounds he could go with Pacquiao, Paul answered, “15 seconds?”
The crowd was only too happy to respond, raining down cheers of “C-P-3! C-P-3!” for the New Orleans guard. Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose received similar treatment as the crowd chanted “M-V-P! M-V-P!” as he took a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter, but he disappointed his fans by missing both shots. But the loudest cheers — at least for basketball players — were reserved for Bryant himself, as the crowd pleaded for him to put himself back into the game.
The oddest chant, though, occurred with four minutes to go in the game and the All-Stars leading 90-80. Perhaps praying for a miracle upset, the crowd erupted into familiar chants of “defense” as they cheered the effort of the hard-charging home team.
There were also a lot of dunks, on both sides. Douthit, Aguilar and Kelly Williams all showed off their athleticism for SMART-Gilas as did Tyreke Evans, James Harden and the rest of the SMART-All-Stars.
McGee, who scored 25 points against the undersized PBA selection the night before, was held to just 16, including just three in the first half as he was defended by the 6-11 Douthit. Bryant and Durant combined to score 21 points in the first half, when they pulled away from their local counterparts.
Jayvee Casio scored 16 points for SMART-Gilas, Douthit scored 14 points and Chris Lutz added 12. Hontiveros hit three shots from beyond the arc and finished with 11 of his own. He would later have the privilege of receiving Bryant’s jersey as he made an exchange with the NBA superstar.

MVP’s joy…
Last weekend’s much-hyped Smart ultimate All-Star Weekend was supposed to be more star-studded than it was, but a crucial “pricing issue” got in the way.
According to our source, no less than basketball star Lebron James was the first choice of businessman Manny Pangilinan to topbill the event.
Unfortunately, the Miami Heat standout may have overplayed his card, with his agents reportedly asking for a $600,000 fee—equivalent to about P25.8 million at the prevailing exchange rate—for the two-game affair.
The source said that MVP “declined this asking price,” but immediately found an equally attractive star at a more reasonable price.
Enter the L.A. Lakers’ Kobe Bryant whose agents reportedly asked for $400,000—about P17.2 million—for the star to play in the event. Done!
Other NBA stars like Derek Fisher, Chris Paul, Tyreke Evans, James Harden, and Derrick Williams got $100,000 or about P4.3 million each, said our source.
Tickets to the event were scarce as Smart Communications reportedly scooped up the bulk of the choicest seats for distribution to “friends of the company.”—Daxim L. Lucas

That should be expected. I mean it's not everyday that you get to brag about playing against top NBA players and losing by only single digits. There is not much going on in the philippines when it comes to sports. When a sports team or single athlete achieve something that is internationally acclaimed, most filipinos almost always see it as an achievement by the whole country and a testament to how good filipinos are. Now this event is by no means a serious competitive event but you've got consider how much the filipinos as a whole love basketball. I havent read/seen the exaggerated news you speak of but i imagine it to be written mostly on tabloids which are mostly full of bias articles and the alteration of facts are an everyday occurrence. Same can be said of the local tv news networks to a lesser degree. So yeah, it shouldnt be upsetting nor surprising at all. Also it's not like the rest of world is going to see/read it anyway.

Derrick Williams, since he is the only one without an official game under his belt.
