I'd love to see this league succeed. With the proper financial backing and fan support, it could be a great alternative to D-League/Europe.

I have always been surprised that Canada didn't even have a decent league. Not even US players would consider it and would prefer to bolt to Europe.

You didn't know that basketball was created by a canadian between 1900-1910?

I'd love to see this league succeed. With the proper financial backing and fan support, it could be a great alternative to D-League/Europe.

How is the D-League a legit alternative for anyone that wants to be able to earn a living? The max salary in D-League is $30,000. Minimum salary in D-League is $18,000. The average salary in D-League is said to be about $24,000. It's barely even a semi-pro league.

The D-League is a freaking joke. Players can't earn a living there.

The D-League is not, and never has been, a legit alternative to playing in Europe, where the salaries are exponentially higher.

Honestly, if the OKC Thunder had ANY of those team names and logos, it'd be way better than what they currently have.

Not NBA TV. It would give me fear that there's an agenda to eventually merge, so that the NBA can expand more into Canada.

I think the best hope for this league is to become such a viable option that it merges with the D-League.

With the way the D-League is expanding, something tells me something major is on its way to boost up the league. I've been kinda predicting for awhile now that it would become the alternative around playing college basketball for at least 3 seasons.

The best case scenario for NBL-C is that it becomes the unofficial third-tier basketball league in North America behind NBA and NBDL. Or, more optimal, fourth-tier. We have to see how many attendances they can draw first though.

Yes!

Teams need to get more creative with their names. I cringed when the Thunder announced their name (not to beat a dead horse).

Sweet. I propose we make a thread and each poster chooses a team to follow.

Interesting choices for locations. I do realize some of those teams are leftover from the old North American league but I really can't see this league turning a profit or drawing any big names playing in towns of less than 100K people like Moncton and Saint John. For this league to be viable they may have to use the model used in lower European leagues where the players get day jobs through the sponsors.

It is exciting that Canadians don't have to go to Europe anymore (though I am sure the better players still will), and that there will be more jobs for domestic players, but unfortunately, I do not see this league working.

There are no West Coast teams (probably to save on travel), so the league is a very regional league in many senses.

Calling this a 'Canadian' basketball league is a bit of a stretch as 4 of the 7 teams are from the Maritimes, a sparsely populated, lower income, often overlooked region of the country (no Hate, I know this because I am from there).

I'd feel better about this league if the franchises were in NHL or CFL cities.

Dajuan Wagner might be able to get on one of these Canadian teams.

I still can't get over the fact that there isn't one team in the west and the ****ing maritimes is getting half the teams.:lol

I'm sure it will expand West if the league has any success at all.
