View Full Version : One-on-One Tournament
Here's how it works: each player is assumed to be in their prime. Vote on who you think would win in a one-on-one game. The first player to 7 votes advances. I only count votes up until a player gets 7. Winners in blue.

There was an uneven number for this round. I figured giving Jordan a bye was the most fair, as he almost certainly would have won his matchup regardless.

Are you kidding me? Dirk is a legit 7 footer with a killer jumpshot. He would be able to back down Bird on every possession and get a bucket.

Sorry, man, Dirk is already out. You can vote on this round though. I almost voted for Dirk for what it's worth, and am not sure I made the right choice, but Bird would have won regardless. It'd be a close one either way.

LMAO @ Lebron running away with it against wade, and T-mac beating Kobe...
FAIL
No troll votes allowed. Whether or not prime T-Mac was better than Kobe (I'm personally inclined to think he was for a brief period, and certainly had more raw potential) I think there's a good chance prime T-Mac beats Kobe because they are even in pretty much everything in terms of one-on-one game but McGrady has a lot of length on him. And LeBron would abuse Wade, are you kidding me?

Have you even seen them play? Kobe is the master of the iso. He will shit on LeBron's face. LeBron a different type of player, a more Magic Johnson type of player. He isn't as effective in an iso, he usually gets a screen. I can't see LeBron just bulldozing through prime Kobe. Kobe has said repeatedly that he would be LeBron 1v1, and I'm almost positive they all played 1v1 during Team USA practice, and LeBron has stayed dead silent about Kobe's comments. I would pick Melo over LeBron in a 1 on 1 too.
Same reason why I would pick Melo over Bird. Not to mention Modern players are bigger and stronger, thanks to advanced workout routines and improved nutrition, etc.

wait what? I may only speak for myself but people can vote for whoever they want, if you are going to force people to pick MJ then there is not a reason to make us vote anymore.

Why the hell would LeBron respond to Kobe's comments? If he did, he'd just look petty and stupid ("haha I can beat Kobe".) And I don't see how someone faster, stronger, more athletic and better defensively won't win one-on-one. LeBron would beat Kobe, unless Kobe hits every contested jumpshot, because he isn't getting a single rebound and LeBron will just dunk on him each time.

No, I said he didn't count earlier in the thread. If someone legitimately believes Ray Allen would win, fine, I'll count it. I already know his agenda here (trying to boost Kobe over Jordan which is all he ever does) and I'm not taking votes if they are not serious. If he wants to give me his serious votes, fine.

I bet this guy is going to make LeBron advance even though Kobe is absolutely destroying LeBron in this One on One Pick'em Tournament. :oldlol:
after all this guy is a gimmick of pauk, he gets just as butt hurt about LeBron as pauk does.

Not really. I'll accept legend's kobe vote (which wasn't my problem with his vote btw) if he can explain the Jordan part (which was my problem). And I figured Kobe would win on this board, so IDGAF.

I don't think size is everything. I've beaten people who were bigger than me 1 on 1 before, had 4 inches and 25 pounds over me. Being bigger certainly is a gift from the gods, but doesn't guarantee you a win against a smaller opponent.
Well we all have opinions. Hence the voting. But remember, skills pays the bills, always.

Someone could very well think Ray could beat Jordan. And anything could happen really, it's 1 on 1. Just count his vote, it's not a big deal.

Actually with his height, athletism & deadly skyhook, he has best chance for one on one. I think Jordan should go, probably everybody would choose him over Bryant,Anthony and Barkley.

This isn't who would win one on one, dude. This is who should get a bye for the next round. i say Kareem because the other guys are a lot smaller than him, and he's the only big guy left. That way, we can have more even matchups until the next round.

Not a fair matchup. Centers would destroy perimeter players due to their size and length advantage. Not to mention they have superior skills in the paint.

I agree that MJ couldn't stop Kareem at all, but could Kareem stop him from running around and shooting jumpshots?

Should be able to some degree. Kareem was pretty quick himself. Don't forget he has his length too. He doesn't need to be too close to contest a jumper.
Also, MJ is going to tire quicker since he has to be more active and use more strength against a bigger opponent. We all know fatigue affect jumpshots a lot.

Jordan could run around and do jump shots... but they won't hit as often as Kareem's post moves. And Jordan will get tired sooner.
Has the one-on-one with Dr. J been mentioned? That wasn't even close. Of course, they were 40+ years old, and Jordan was better than Erving.

Well, after reading the melo fans, the kobe fans, etc posts it's pretty obvious that whomever the GOAT really is won't gete the credit deserved because of these type of fans we call 'homers' or 'stans'. Anyway if it's Make it take it and Dirk gets the ball first, he's my vote for the tournament winner. No little or bigman will stop his fade.
yes this means your favorite player won't stop his jumpshot, accept it =)
As for Kareem vs MJ I don't think height plays that much of a factor as opposed to speed does because MJ can dunk, making him able to block shots because no player stands above the rim. Kind of like how Wade blocks bigmen, yanno?
My vote goes to MJ in a close game.
