View Full Version : Unexplained scratches when I wake up and more weird experiences.

So I know I'm probably going to get grief about this or attract trolls on this but it's odd. The last 2 weeks or so I've been having a lot of terrible nightmares (bad enough to wake me up, usually demonic). Along with that my girlfriend has been finding scratches on me in the mornings. Usually on my arms and legs and almost always 3 lines, sometimes 2. It looks like a cat scratch except we have no pets.
I eliminated everything possible in my head and can't figure it out. I know for a fact it's not me scratching myself because the location of this last scratch would be very hard to get to on my arm if I wasn't wide awake (it's basically right below my elbow on my Tricep area. This isn't all of what's been happening. Lately lots of loud noises in the apartment keeping me up really late because they seem intentional. Just as I'm falling asleep I'll hear loud bangs, rustling or movement in the kitchen/living room. What's more odd is that this seems to have followed me from the last place I lived. When my girl would stay there with me we would hear loud ass bangs and noises in kitchen... waking us up, scaring us. Just so happens the time was always between 3 AM and 3:30 AM and no I'm not making this up!
Anyone else have experiences like this? I'm very much open minded and interested in paranormal but I'm also a scientific minded and logical guy so this is very conflicting for me.
Edit: I'm adding a link to my FB in a sec with a pic showing scratch and I'll give link.

Just a surface scratch like a cat scratch but it takes 1-2 days to heal usually.

I did man :( . It's a nice bed in good shape. Nothing at all in my apartment could leave 3 scratches like that. You notice how all 3 run perfectly parallel? It looks like an animal scratch.

Question: Do you vividly remember these dreams you're having? With what frequency do you have them? What are they like in more detail?
In response to the bolded... Why do you think you couldn't have scratched yourself? People do a lot of crazy things in their sleep. Have you ever seen a sleepwalker? Some of these people get up, walk around, even talk and carry on logical conversations. To say you couldn't scratch a hard-to-reach place in your sleep is jumping the gun a bit.
As far as the paranormal stuff.. well, I'm a logical guy myself, but logic can't disprove ghosts. Who really knows if they exist? But I'd say there's a very small probability of that being the case with you. Maybe you should do a Paranormal Activity style movie, aye? Haha

This sounds a lot like the plot of Insidious.
Dude comon don't make light of it. I'm hoping to find people on here that may of had similar things happening. I haven't seen Insidious nor would I waste time writing 3 paragraphs of a BS story I jacked from a movie to get attention or something.

Okay I'll tell you what I can. I am a very active sleeper for sure. I change position a lot. Thing is some of these scratches are like on the back of my calves and ankles. Very weird places to scratch when you sleep on your back right? I talk a ton in my sleep but have never sleepwalked (according to what I know and GF's, family etc).
I actually do remember my most recent nightmare from 2 nights ago and it's still scary to me. Remember the part in Paranormal Activity where the girl gets dragged down the hall? Basically in my dream my girlfriend gets dragged down the hall near our bathroom from the bed.. and I grab on to her and it drags us both effortlessly. Then I woke up scared as hell, sweating and feeling VERY uncomfortable. Couldn't fall back asleep for an hour.
Another thing that proves I'm not crazy here is the same loud noises... spook my girlfriend too. She experiences the same things lately except no scratches.

You are not crazy. I use to have scratches like these... I had one so big in my neck. I had to hide it in school. But couldn't because it was so big. Every one was asking me about it. Even my teachers. I told them I scratched myself.
They give you that look that tells They knew that wasn't the truth because it was so BIG and large. There was no way I could do that. So they kept bugging me. Asking me whether I got into a fight with my girl or something. :oldlol:
Anyway, everyone that day asked me about it. This was back in high school (11th grade) We wore school uniforms so I had to pull up the top of my polo shirt in an attempt to hid it.
People might think I'm trolling but this is the absolute truth. I promise you with my entire life on it that its the truth.
My scar was also similar to yours but a-lot bigger and longer. I have only had them about thrice in my life, usually when I'm spiritually bankrupt and have done alot of bad stuff in that period.
Btw: I neither scratch myself in my sleep, nor do I have any nails, I bite and cut them like everyday. I'm also the kind of conscious sleeper, you know there are the deep sleepers and then the surface sleeper. Anything can literally wake me up so there was no way I could or someone else could do that to me and me not awaken.

Unexplained scratches appearing on body
by jmflemming, Jan 20, 2009 06:03AM
Tags: unexplained, scratch, Chest, abdomen
I am really puzzled by this strange problem I am having.
Superficial scratches are randomly appearing on my body, usually on my abdomen or chest (front-side).
These scratches are almost always about two-three inches long and there are usually two or three of them separated by about an inch. They are always roughly parallel to one another. They are exactly as if a cat has scratched me (I have no pets). Since the scratches are quite superficial, they tend to heal quickly within two or three days.
I don't have fingernails to speak of, and I don't sleep with feather pillows or comforters/duvets, so there's no way they can show up in my sleep.
My number-one worry is that these scratches could be related to an internal affliction - even though they're rather superficial, is there any chance they could be indicative of a more serious illness?
I've tried searching around on the Internet, but everything I find suggests supernatural causes, which I DEFINITELY don't buy into.
Any help/advice is much appreciated.

I'm 31 now, and for the last 13 years I've occasionally awaken in the morning to find a set of scratch marks on random parts of my body. Infact I'm looking at one right now. They usually appear in sets of either 1 2 or 3. All side by side. The longest I can remember being perhaps 7 inches in length. Usually about 4 inches. They never bleed but they slightly sting. Very similar to if you got a scratch by a cat. I have no cats and I bite my nails so I have basically no edges on my fingernails. So it's definitely some kind of paranormal happening. It's happened for so long now that I don't even think about it much anymore. One really strange thing though is that my last 2 girlfriends have also awaken to find the scratch marks on them at times. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? And could this have perhaps anything to do with the fact that when I was 17 I dabbled in witchcraft? I'm a christian now, but I sometimes wonder if doing that perhaps opened up some kind of gate way to demonic oppression, which is showing up as these scratch marks.

Wow man. I totally believe you cause it's same for me. That's another thing I forgot to mention. I also bite my nails all the time. I can't even really give my girl a backscratch let alone leave 3 claw marks, one of which drew a little blood it looks like. Like you I'm also a super light sleeper so I would think I should have woken up. I'm glad someone with a similar situation finally answered and gave me useful info. Thanks a lot man.
It sucks because the links you gave me seems to be more speculation on the part of readers rather than answers or legit reasoning. The first link with medical condition is complete BS.
Also I think lately I have been a bit more "spiritually bankrupt" and definitely have been doing more bad lately.

Hi,
I wake up with the same scratches as celticberic and yourself. I do not agree with the doc about dermographisim as a diagnosis. I've researched this and there are thousands of people with the same unexplained marks. I have spent months eliminating anything that could cause these scratches. What is interesting though, is that when my dog sleeps with me, I never wake up with any. He sleeps at the foot of the bed. However, if I put him beside me on the floor, they continues. They are often in very strange patterns as well and too close together to be caused by human nails. No one wants to admit there really hasn't been a reasonable medical explaination offered for many years, but if we keep asking, someone might answer.
today i was sitting at my computer,,and out of nowhere my neck started burning it was so bad i started to cry,,then my daughter looked and there are 3 deep scratches on my neck,,,they r not even to be honest,,2 of them looks like a check mark with a line ao maybe the number 1 ,,,would some1 please help me,,,this is not the 1st time this has happend,,but it only happens during the day while i am wide awake
I have been getting scratch marks on my hands arms and wrists. There isn't any explanation because I have no nails, no pets, and I'm allergic to down so I don't use it. I've woken up with deep scratches. Sometimes they appear when I'm not doing anything. Just sitting on the computer. Or at work. And they seem to disappear just as quickly as I've noticed them. I have pictures. I have also noticed that after I get the scratches, it leaves a tiny bump where it was. Anyone have any help? I'm starting to think I'm crazy.
I could go on and on and post accounts, but I will stop..

do you have any sleep paralysis? usually whenever it happens to me, I'm in a harmless dream, but then all of a sudden something scary occurs randomly in that dream triggering an eerie, suffocating feeling that forces me out of sleep into paralyzed semi-conscious fear, and I can palpably sense something malovent in the darkness around me.
anyway, it definitely sounds demonic. three scratches are mocking the holy trinity, as someone has already stated. it's happened to a lot of people though, so it seems harmless enough. what is your history of involvement with church?
the most intriguing detail is that it has followed you from your last residence. you need to check with family members, most importantly your parents, to see if they've experienced similar or anything else supernatural. there are such things as familial or even generational curses.

Well I've always been sensitive to it. My sister who was my roommate at last place was oblivious to all the experiences but when my GF would stay with us she heard all the noises too. Always around 3-330 AM like I said. I just started going back to church but I'm not sure dedicated and involved like before.

Paranomal scratches? That isn't something to worry about. Just sleep with the light on and the "12 children of Almendro" won't scratch you in your sleep.
If you continue to get scratches even with lights on then put salt on all your doors and windows and you should be ok. It is just some spirits messing with you.

re-read the first line of what you just quoted.
do you think it's common for people to scratch themselves "below their elbow, above their tricep"?
I'm not saying it's a given that this is paranormal because it needs further study, but the details point in that direction.

Crazy stuff. I thought I was the only one that had this happen to, guess not. I sometimes wake up with these scratches on my face, and the one similarity I have is that I bite my nails every day. Im pretty sure that while Im sleeping I scratch myself with my uneven nails. That is what I tell everyone who asks me about it, ill stick with that one rather then the demonic reason haha.

I tried to scratch myself as hard as I could with my nails when I saw the scratch and all I could do is leave that white scrape. The kind that goes away in a minute. I couldn't do 3 red scratches that nearly drew blood and lasted for 2 days.

You have no choice. Or they would think you are coo coo. :oldlol:
But you should know better. That explanation has no legs.

Stop rubbing your cokk in fish sauce and cat food........i know you like it when the poor cat is licking, but when it comes back for a midnight snack....then the scratching starts

I tried to scratch myself as hard as I could with my nails when I saw the scratch and all I could do is leave that white scrape. The kind that goes away in a minute. I couldn't do 3 red scratches that nearly drew blood and lasted for 2 days.
Weird man, I have been wondering myself what the hell causes it. This is my only possible explanation. I also thought it might have been something on my mattress or covers for that case. :confusedshrug:

:confusedshrug: I'm in the same boat. Either way man I prayed like I haven't in years and nothing has happened in the last 2 days. So it did make a difference.

Update for you guys. No scratches or noises at night to keep me awake. This morning when my girlfriend got up she came and woke me up because our big fan in the hallway where all the noises happen was completely turned around facing the wall and it freaked her out. We leave it pointing into the room at night.
It's on the floor so maybe somehow the inertia completely turned the fan around but it's weird because it never does that.

Have you been praying consistently? My guess is that it can't physically harm you now and so it's trying to scare you in more distant ways. Either way it's obviously trying to get your attention.

I'm not religious or anything like that but you might want to check with your pastor/priest/rabbi...get someone to "clean" out your house of whatever is messing with you.

The pic looks like urticaria to me, probably dermatographism. I used to have this crap and it was really weird, because it was appearing in places I did not remember having rubbed or scratched myself. Sometimes, dermatographism can appear somewhere several hours after having scratched or applied pressure in your skin.
In the Middle Ages, dermatographism was considered a sign of demonic possession, so you're not alone. :D Fortunately, you live a few centuries later or else you'd have been burned to save your soul...
Now, this is just a suggestion. Not saying necessarily that this is your case, but it definitely could. See a dermatologist.
