Mavs easily. Jordan was still a pretty damn good player, but was no longer playing anywhere near GOAT level. Stackhouse and Hughes were solid, if flawed, players. No one else did anything particularly noteworthy. The Mavs had Dirk who is still playing at an elite level and a very well-rounded, if somewhat unspectacular, core. The Mavs didn't have as much firepower as the Lakers, Thunder or Heat, but were able to beat them all.

hmm.....Jordan's game was nearly identical to his 97 ' 98' game...to add he rested his body at least 3 years in his 30's giving him time to heal and play at a good level in his late 30's...

was he able to do things like 25 year old MJ?...of course not....but his ability was vastly underrated by his fans to make his 20PPG and 42fg% in the modern era seem like it was all due to him bieng too old.....when in fact it was due to modern defense bieng much more harder to score on...

MJ was a great athlete in peak shape year round...who rested his body many times in his career...37 - 38 year old Jordan was like a 33 - 35 year old modern player in todays era.

Wizards had much more playmakers and players who could create off the dribble for others....while the Mav's might have had a slight advantage inside it was minimal at best....

I think the 02' Wizards had better defensive minded players also.

Let's not forget that Jason Kidd in his prime lead his team to back-to-back Finals appearances, and used to be a legit MVP candidate (him and T. Duncan were neck and neck in 2002 MVP race)...

could you say that particular kind of talent, leadership, and skill was in any of Jordan's teammates' past? Not talking presently, I'm saying, it's not like any of Jordan's teammates even used to be amazing, like some of Dirk's teammates were.

Talent?...yes..Stack was a 25 - 30PPG 4and 4 player......Leadership?.....yes....

Oakley was one of the toughest players of his era....and a leader on every team he has played on.....

and by your theory..Michael Jordan had far more experience then a 33 year old Dirk...

AlphaWolf24

Let me break each team down, player by player...

Michael Jordan- near what he was in 97' 98', still a very good player though, although he could actually be stopped at this point in his career much like early in his career when he lost to quiker players.
Brian Cardinal-Trash.
Brendan Haywood-Eh.
Jerry Stackhouse-Good, scorer in his prime exploded for 30 PPG.a solid -21 PPG guy.
Larry Hughes-Solid player stud defensive perimeter player.
Juan Dixon-actually led his college team to a NCAA Title...unlike some
Jared Jefferies-He was shit then, he's shit now, and he always will be shit.
Charles Oakley-Barely played and was a nonfactor at this point.
Christian laetneer-Bum.
Byron Russell-great for the Jazz, Jordan has said many times that BRuss is a greatdefender
Bobby Simmons-Barely played and was a nonfactor.
Etan Thomas-Shit.
Kwame Brown-Shit.

Dirk Nowitzki-Great shooter with lackluster defense....before 11' was an epic choker until he manned up and worked insanly in the 10' offseason to become a better allaround player.
Brian Cardinal-Still trash.
Brendan Haywood-ol' garbage
Jason terry-Great 6th man in the mid 00's..but at 33 is just a spot up shooter, but not an ideal starter due to being undersized and a poor defender.
Shawn Marion-Nowhere the stud he was in Phoenix, hurt hamstring and was slower latterally, but ideally would come off the bench behind Caron Butler.
Jose Barea-at 5'7" forced LBJ to shoot fallaway J's
Deshawn Stevenson-Horrible offensive player, good defender. Meh.
Tyson Chandler-Solid center, very good defensive anchor. No threat anywhere beyond 3' from the basket
Jason Kidd-No longer an MVP candidate, he's still good at running an offense, but can't be counted on to score much anymore.
Peja Stojakavic-Nowhere near what he once was, reduced to being a spot shooter off the bench.
Rodrique Beaubois-Young player who should improve, was injured for the playoffs.
Corey Brewer-Defensive minded player, was hardly used in the playoffs.
Sasha Pavlovic-Played 10 games for them in the regular season and was traded to Celtics. LOL @ you including him to make the Mavericks look worse.

Fixed.........Wiz>Mav's..on paper

AlphaWolf24

Stackhouse had one season above 25 PPG. One. And he shotjacked a ridiculous amount to do it. Oakley scored 1.8 points per game on the Wizards. GTFO

Stackhouse>any player on the Mavs not named Dirk....GTFO with yo BS...

Stack was a Muf@cin beast in his heyday....

Leattner 8PPG and 8REB..... ....Tyson da Gawd 10PPG 9REB:lol

Who said MJ was great on the Wizards? He was good, like Stackhouse. But MJ also had the GOAT career and was 40 years old, unlike Stackhouse.

Jordan was 37 - 38 years old coming off of 2 years of rest while still being on a strict work out regimen....

not to mention the other nearly 2 years he rested in his 30's.....quit making excuses...you sound like Lebron apologists...

Stackhouse was coming off a 30PPG 4AST 4REB season in his Prime....

I don't need to make excuses for Jordan considering he's the greatest player who ever lived...

Too Young to win.....No Teamates ......Too Old....seem's like alot of excuses to me.

5 Losing seasons below .500......for the greatest player ever??.....most by far of all the top 7 GOAT's....won in a watered down era...

So in 95 you were at least 21 right. so 16 years later you're 36-37. So you spend your time trolling on a message board about how Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan . You have both players stats ready and waiting to be used. You talk like a 12 year old kid after watching Boyz n the hood and menace 2 society back to back. You asked me to find a post post where you showed that you have an agenda. You saying Kobe is a better scorer than MJ would certainly make one think you have an agenda.

Does Phil Jackson have an agenda?..he said Kobe is a better allaround player then Jordan , Does John Salley have an agenda?..he said Kobe is a better scorer then MJ...Does Steve Kerr have an agenda?...what about Horace Grant?...Does Mark Jackson have an agenda?....what about ESPN?....Does countless other sports outlet's who compare Kobe vs MJ have an agenda...

Last week ESPN said Kobe had acomplished more at 32 then MJ did at 32....they have an agenda???...

The only agenda I see are the Jordan stans constantly putting down other great players while Ignoring everything that puts MJ in a substandard light..they revise history to fit thier view on how Jordan's legacy should be....they discount everything the majority says to keep thier views intact....

we get it..you spent $200.00 on a pair of good shoes....but you still garbage...

Just gonna copy and paste this post I made from that other Jordan-Kobe thread (since it's obvious that Kobe>Jordan is what this stupid-ass thread is about).

" I just love how you pull statements like these out of your ass and casually state them as if they're anything other than bullshit. So you're saying that, as long as you don't play basketball, you and your body don't age? As long as you don't play basketball, you actually age in reverse?!?

MJ scored 20 per game at age 40 in 2003, when the average team defensive rating was 103.6 and teams allowed 95.1 PPG, compared to 107.3 and 99.6 PPG in the 2011 season.

So, MJ at age 40 (just 8 years ago, which I'm PRETTY sure counts as "the modern era") scored just 5 PPG less than Kobe at age 32 in 2011 on roughly the same efficiency, while MJ faced a league in '03 that was tougher defensively as a whole than the league in 2011. And yet you say, "Jordan was a 42% FG player in the modern era"?

Also, MJ actually shot at or 50% for 5 of his final 9 seasons, discounting '95, as he only played 17 games then. Compare this to Kobe, who has yet to have a single season shooting above 47%!

Man, it's so fun to argue against you and your absurd logic, AlphaWolf. Your arguments are so ridiculous that they actually make me lol.

Jordan was 38 and a half.....yes he was scoring....

Again, he turned 40 during the 2003 season, during which he was healthier than he was in '02, and he played at just a slightly lower level than Kobe did this year, at 32, and MJ did it against a better defensive league (admittedly, Kobe wasn't fully healthy either in '11).

but he was awful.....and his team suffered.....

He wasn't "awful," he was still playing at an All-Star or borderline All-Star level, and the team struggled DESPITE Jordan, not because of him.

he capped his career the way he started....Losing.

Can't argue with this, at least it makes sense, though, again, MJ wasn't the reason his teams struggled.

Stop bringing up LeBron in ever damn thread. I know you're still butthurt that he left the Cavs. Get over it. He's not coming back. Enjoy getting lottery picks again next year.

dude aint even a real cavs fan. he posts 30 times a day, but i havent heard him say one thing about the cavs. hes just some stupid kid looking for somebody to blame/hate, and lebron was an easy choice, since everybody else hates lbj.

Dallas had a better team on paper too.

How is that?....who thought the Mavs were going to get past Portland???...

many experts thought the Wizards were at least going to make the Finals in 02'...

Many "experts" were foolishly thinking MJ was going to play like he did when he was younger, then.

Not like when he was "young"..because when he was "young" he was getting swept in the first round or quitting vs Detroit...

For example I remember Bill Walton saying he expected MJ to play similar to 1997' and pushing the Guy's harder in Paractice to make a deep playoff run...

and the 2 other panelists said it would be Washington vs L.A. in the Finals..

He had no help when he was young. It doesn't matter how great you are, it's a team game and you can't win by yourself.

This thread is designed to point out the weak competition Kobe faced and was swept by, right?

Too Young to win.....No Teamates ......Too Old....seem's like alot of excuses to me.

5 Losing seasons below .500......for the greatest player ever??.....most by far of all the top 7 GOAT's....won in a watered down era...

meh....best player of the 90's.....least valuable team player compared to other top 10's

Dude, you got some damn nerve talking about excuses, with the way you post endless qualifiers to prop up Kobe's Greatness :oldlol: "At Age 32", "Between the age 21-32", "As a Starter", "As Da Man", "A Sports Article Once Said he May be the Best Ever", without anything tangible to prove it. You're a clown. An entertaining clown I'll say, but still a clown none the less.

No one ever predicted that the Wizards would win the NBA Championship in 2002. Jordan was almost 40 yrs.old at the start of the season.
