Every day for work, I overload my mp3 player with podcasts. All I really use are sports podcasts though, and it gets annoying hearing about football everyday right now. Do you guys have any suggestions for some podcasts that are free to download?

Also, I don't have an Ipod, so if you have to save it to itunes I can't use it.

any specific interests?

Ehh not really. Just any podcast you listen to and find to be good, I'll check out and see if it interests me.

I'm into politics and economics but I don't want to be frustrated at work. hahha.

Funny stuff is always welcome.

Dan Carlin's history podcast is excellent:
http://dancarlin.com/

Don't expect too deep stuff here, but the man can tell a story. He doesn't do that many of them though.

Dan Carlin is pretty good. too much of him can get annoying, but in small doses. i think Hardcore History was the one i listened to. cool content in any case.

i've heard a lot of people raving about This American Life lately. kinda everyday stuff with an interesting voice behind the mic.

here's (http://castroller.com/) a great website you can surf, all free and download-able. i mostly listen to stuff from CBC (http://castroller.com/channels/cbc/podcasts), Ideas with Paul Kennedy, Vinyl Tap with Randy Bachman for music, Age of Persuasion is a really good one on marketing.

all good stuff. or just type into google 'good podcasts + (topic of interest)'.

It's always in the top five most downloaded and I listened to it for a few months but It's really not that good. The stories are interesting but I find the presentation excruciatingly boring. I mean literally fall asleep in the middle of the day boring.

Skeptoid (http://skeptoid.com/) by Brian Dunning, by far my favorite podcast, It's absolutely incredible. A massive range of topics, they're very short and to the point [never more than 15 minutes]. He does great research and backs it up with undeniable FACTS. Everyone should listen to this one.

Mysterious Universe (http://mysteriousuniverse.org/), an all-encompassing paranormal podcast by two funny Australian fellows. They also cover a wide range of topics and they LOVE to debunk, so they're not just giving you a one sided opinion. Usually one show a week that's about 1-1.5 hours long. They segue with some great music and always involve their audience. I highly recommend it.

Bill Burr's Monday Morning podcast (http://www.billburr.com/mmpc.htm). What can I say? Bill Burr is hilarious and is about to EXPLODE like Louis C.K. He just pops on his mic and talks about whatever. His rants are legendary and I cry from laughter at least once per episode.

Mohr Stories (http://smodcast.com/channels/mohr-stories/). Jay Mohr's new podcast that's only about 10 episodes deep. So far he's been telling a lot of inside hollywood stories. For example: he told a story about how him and Tracy Morgan got high on PCP and tore up a club so they didn't have to pay the huge bill. But there's lots of other interesting stories he's told so far about Tom Cruise and Jennifer Aniston. Lots of deep film and sports references. It's very entertaining and he's improving every single week. The episodes are about 1.5 hours.

Props on the first two. I usually listen to some Kevin Smith, Steve-Dave, or Rogan, but I'm not really digging Mohr that much.

I get that a lot with Mohr. You kind of have to be a fan of his to really get most of his references, but I've been listening to him for years on the Opie & Anthony show. The stories are great for anyone I think, It's the stuff in between that can turn people off.

the 1-2 episodes i've heard have made me think the same thing. the guy isn't bad by any means, but he doesn't suck you in.

the TED (technology-entertainment-design) podcasts are 20 minutes each, by all kinds of people who have interesting ideas to propose or experiences to spread. a little bit like condensed discovery mag or scientific american articles.

you can get an idea of some of the latest podcasts just by looking at the front page:
http://www.ted.com/

videos are on-site or via youtube. podcasts are on i-tunes, downloadable as MP3's (no apple products necessary). all free.

I've just checked out The Handle by Reinis Lacis - aka Lamarmatic, you might know him blogging about Bobcats - again. He has some nice interviews there, many vintage players telling about the good old days. Nbad

I like The Complete Guide to Everything. The hosts are funny and it brightens up my Monday's at work. This is the only podcast I've listened to for 4 years now.

Another good one that I've yet barely scratched the surface is the
Zero Squared Podcast, formerly Diet Soap by Douglas Lain. These are interviews with philosophers, activists, artists, scientists and intelectuals about variety of topics.

Some of the episodes:
Diet Soap Podcast #55: The Economics of Needs and Limits
Diet Soap Podcast #134: Understanding the Stanley Parable
Diet Soap Podcast #139: The Game, Fight Club, and the Phenomenology of Spirit
Diet Soap Podcast #188: Nietzsche's Affirmation and Hegel's Contradiction
Diet Soap Podcast #223: Death and Other Impossibilities
Zero Squared #7: The Age of Nixon
Zero Squared #56: Trolls and Tumblrites
Zero Squared #47: Imperialism or Security
Zero Squared #36: Superstructural Berlin

you get the idea.
