for everything but maybe clothes(never tried tho)?
they have the lowest prices across the board on pretty much everything i've come across. Electronics, automotive equipment, household equipment, lawn and yard equipment, vaporizers, etc, etc... i mean if i go to any local store their prices are way marked up compared to Amazon. Amazon seems to have really close to wholesale pricing, and if u can get stuff with Amazon shipping you're basically paying wholesale delivered.
then on top of that if u get the Amazon Chase credit card and qualify u get a free $40 gift certificate, and Amazon points each time u buy with it. those points add up and it almost feels like too good to be true. Add on Amazon Prime and you're paying a fraction on deliveries for $79/year.
one of the best things about Amazon is they have reviews on everything. I haven't found a site with nearly as many product reviews on so many times anywhere on the internet. Any time i'm buying something i check Amazon to make sure its quality.
i just wonder if there are any better all around shopping sites out there or even stores locally to people that can beat Amazon. I seriously haven't found anything close. Even the original manufacturers of products direct websites will have even pricing usually with what their products are selling for on Amazon. Amazon has a great return policy and i'm never worried about getting scammed either.
I just haven't found anything that beats it, whether its online or locally, Amazon prices crush them. thoughts? :confusedshrug:

Amazon is great; I buy tons of stuff on there. That said, I still like going into stores and shopping for the sake of convenience. Also, with stuff like clothes, I usually want to see firsthand before I buy.
PS - buying auto parts online is great. LOTS of $$$ to be saved that way. For example, I recently bought 2 new tires for $160 each that Pep Boys had in store for $200 each (even though their web site also had them listed at $160 per - they know that people who go into the store will pay more. So I figured screw them and bought them from another place online).

Clothing is really tricky because of sizing issues... I have purchased some stuff for my son, and had to return them because of size. In a store, you can try stuff on.
Electronics wise, they seem to be the best and better than any local stores!

Short answer: no.
The only non-Amazon purchases I make are groceries. I buy all my clothes on there as well. Except for dress shirts and slacks. Once you know how you fit with a certain brand, you can order online without worrying. Their customer service department is top-notch and they go out of their way to help you.

You can purchase anything from laptops to shampoo. Amazon is great. Can this last forever though? No tax at an already discounted price. Bought my macbook on Amazon, it was cheaper than retail with no tax. PLus it came in 3 days. Amazon is one of only sites where it falls under too good to be true but it is true.

Prime member for six months and my answer to your question is: no.
I hate Amazon. I have been screwed by them repeatedly on items I have bought. They have messed up Christmas presents I have ordered and they routinely **** up on books I order for school. **** them.

yeah i bought a 17V Dewalt power driver for about $60 cheaper at Amazon than what i could've gotten it for locally, and thats even at a discounted price from Finishmasters. i think the markups on tools can be really high from retail stores, and especially if u buy from MAC/SnapOn trucks. its funny tho how Amazon is cheaper than stuff i can get even with a hooked up price.

I buy games, books, blurays and vitamin supplements from Amazon. Sometimes games are full price, especially on new releases, but I get free shipping, no tax

So Amazon is basically like an online reputable store whereas eBay involves buying from others. That right? I've always used eBay, but would only buy from the most reputable sellers. Amazon might be a better idea.

Well, aside from most sellers amazon uses being guaranteed, I just think the format is immensely better.

You are actually supposed to pay sales tax. It's just too hard to go after every online customer because there are millions of shoppers on amazon. If you buy something expensive online, or you shop a LOT online, expect a bill from your state's board of equalization to pay "use tax".
Proud Prime member for 2 years now.
And I've been purchasing there...forever. The only things I dont get are food and clothes there.
It was Amazon, not 3rd party sellers, and I was talking with customer service quite a bit.
First issue was a calendar I bought in college. They sent me the wrong calender like 4 times and eventually it was June and I didn't want a calender anymore because I gave up and bought a different one for the year. They gave me Amazon store credit, but I was sick of dealing with them and wanted my actual money back because at that point they didn't deserve to have my money.
This Christmas I bought ladder golf for my family off Amazon. It took a while for the package to show, and when it did (about 2 days before Christmas), a nerf gun showed up. I'm not going to play with a nerf gun with my whole family where nobody is younger than 23. My family also only gets together as a whole on Christmas, so when they sent the replacement, it came after everybody left and we still never got to play it as a family.
I've on multiple occasions had books not show in time for tests in classes I'm taking, and other times it is not the book I ordered or not as described. Once I ordered a book that was supposed to come with a CD. My teacher highly encouraged us to study using the CD because we had a super hard test. The book came about 4 days before the test and without the CD. When I contacted Amazon, they said I could send the book back and then they would send a new book with the CD in it for $10 more. Because I had a test coming up, I couldn't part with the book any more, so I asked them to just send the CD, but they told me that they will only send the CD with that particular book and I had to send them back my book in order to get that one (plus they were going to charge me more for it).

Crazy, did not know that. I thought it had to do with where Amazon ships their goods out.

yeah if u read the reviews, every once in a while there will be low marks due to order screw ups occasionally. u also have to be careful of multiple listings of the same products and some not exactly being that same product altho its obvious in the pic/info. like last night i was shopping for a vaporizer on their site, ended up getting the Magic Launch Box, but there were like 3-4 different listings for it all at different pricing. and then there was one that looked different in the pics where it was red, i end up reading the reviews, and there was some mention about it being a imitation version that didn't come with a serial number on the box(Magic Launch Box gives lifetime warranty on its product based on the serial number).

for all around general stuff i have found amazon to be the best, but there are some specialized sites that have things for cheaper.
I see 3 posters saying they're happy with Prime Amazon. So far I've purchased 7 items worth $210. I'm about to buy a textbook that's $100, so that's about $300+ since May.
That's about $75 a month...is Prime worth it for a customer like me?
It can be.
Really it just comes in handy if you buy lots of items. Because it's free 2 day shipping. Or 3.99 for overnight. How much you spend is irrelevant. But only some items are prime eligible. So far pretty much every book, video game, cd/record, dvd/blu ray I've ordered is prime. So are almost all school supplies.
Ahhh I see, it's the amount you buy not how much you spend. I also see they offer free indie/B-movies streaming too, I might just get it for that + the 2-day free shipping.
Yeah, they have some decent movies and stuff for streaming. I just wish a console with pick up an amazon app for streaming:lol

A week ago I bought a textbook from a third party dealer and had paid $15 to have it shipped within 2 days, and I got it right on time. I looked to see if that third party dealer have good rep, which they did.
So far I haven't had any problems with Amazon yet so I'll continue to buy from them for now.
if u haven't get the Chase Amazon card. that $40 gift certificate is worth it in itself and it was ez to apply for and got it taken off my last order, not to mention the points u get for every purchase towards Amazon points. even if their interest rate is high just make sure u don't leave a balance and pay it in full.

If you buy a lot of Blu Rays or games, Amazon will sometimes throw you a credit for no reason whatsoever. I've had two credits in the last six months, one for $5 and one for $15.
But I usually buy in bulk, always more than $100 at a time. Maybe that's why.

Amazon Prime or Amazon Student gives you free 2-day shipping for an already discounted price too good to be true, and they don't charge tax, which is way too good to be true! You can pretty much get anything on there other than groceries. I would try on the clothes in a store first before you order online. Amazon Wireless sells Phones for discounted prices, for example EVO for $70. It's great for buying electronics.

Newegg > Amazon for electronics.
I also like Walmart for certain items, because their warranties and no-hassle returns are the best.

Amazon is great. Ordered many products from them since around 2006, and only been let down once, and that wasn't their fault. We were in the middle of a postal strike. So to me, their service has been exemplary.
There is a certain charm to actually going out and getting a product yourself sometimes though, but 90% of the time if I want something, I'll go with Amazon. Done virtually all of my Xmas shopping this year with them.
I wish Amazon had an app on xbox live or PS3. That's my one gripe. I have prime, so I thoroughly enjoy free shipping as a student. And I get all these prime membership offers free for streaming. But I hate watching on my macbook. I'd MUCH rather stream to my TV.
Or better yet. Amazon buys Netflix. Has their app on the consoles. Then I can live happy.:pimp:
Hell even when I'm not a student anymore I'd pay 75? for that shit.

I sold one of my textbooks for $70(getting $61 after the Amazon fee) and trade-in another book for $54. Not too bad...I got 60% back of what I paid for.
Both books are coming out with a new edition anyway so might as well sell them.
these book companies come out with new editions almost every year. it should be a crime!

i buy from amazon whenever i need something like a video game, electronic accessory or whatever. I even bought some Levi's off there, size was perfect, alot cheaper too.
Basically it's great for just about everything
when you buy from another dealer on Amazon just check their ratings before buying. Or just order off Amazon fulfilled or Amazon straight up for great shipping

They just added Prime Music feature. You can stream (selective) albums and songs for free. Selective but a lot, "...includes tens of thousands of albums."
Change my mind, I'm sticking with Amazon. Wow, a game-changer! ...for me anyways.
Might have to checkout their music streaming. If its good I might have to scrap netflix and spotify and just go with Amazon for everything.

Clothes and groceries I prefer to buy in person. Right now I'm living in NYC so almost any item will cost more in a store around this area than if I'm buying online.
Unfortunately amazon also does charge taxes if you're shipping to certain states. Which makes me want to ship to my friends in CT or something.
