I think I am going to trade in 2k11, tiger woods, fifa...and get the game. I mean Why play 2k11 when there is 2k12... Tiger woods game was alright but I am not the biggest golf fan. That'll definitely be my saving grace on 2K12 until the lockout is resolved. It'll feel awfully funky to use the non-updated rosters for, well, pretty much anything (My Player, Association, Quick Game). Therefore, I imagine putting in a lot of time with the classics. I'm a huge classics guy. Unfortunately, the ability to edit and create more classic teams seems to have become more difficult this year. But even still, it should work out.

My driving force behind purchasing the game on release day this year is the inclusion of the '91 Warriors and '02 Kings in all copies of the game upon the initial shipment. However, it seems some folks are not receiving their Warriors/Kings code like they should. Either way, I want to give myself a chance to get it, because I love both of those teams.

For whatever it's worth, 2K's doubled the amount of historic teams included in their game, as well as bolstering their rosters to the teams already included in 2K11. For instance, most classic rosters in 2K11 tended to have between 6-8 authentic players. Most classic teams in 2K12 seem to have 9-12 authentic players.

Further, there's definitely a wider range of teams included on the classic front, instead of just being limited to Jordan's key opponents. I'm personally hyped about Russell's Celtics, Wilt's Lakers, LJ's Hornets, Mullin's Warriors, Dr. J's 76ers, and Duncan and Robinson's Spurs (not to mention Shaq's Magic and Lakers and Hakeem's Rockets). But I respect if that's not your thing. It's just I wouldn't call it merely an addition of a few. They went big.

In truth, it looks like 2K12 has improved in a lot of areas aside from the classics. The current rosters (and rookies) seem like two of the few areas that weren't really touched (offline Association also looks generally the same). Otherwise, 2K12 seems like a super smoothed over 2K11. Graphics-wise, animations-wise, playing-wise. I'll be looking forward to snagging it tomorrow.

Don't make the mistake of having doubts. Everyone I know who already has the game says it's so so much better than 2K11. It's not just an updated game man. The way the game plays as well as hundreds of other things have set a new bar. It's being hailed as the best SPORTS game of all time. A lot of people are trading in FIFA 12 and Madden 12 for it too.

I guess THE driving force would be to play classic teams against classic teams. Honestly, 2k11 games become at their best during the playoffs, when Rashidi or the Outsiders finish their edits with the ratings, rosters, shoes, appearances, and most importantly, the sliders.

My 2k11 with Rashidi and his sliders play perfect now, and with no rookies in 2k12, I'm pretty sure 2k11 will play better for current teams just because of the work put in by the 2kshare community.

360 users even have it good, I think someone edits the classic team ratings to be comparable against current teams. On the PS3 someone swapped created bench players for the generic players but didn't update the ratings. That's why I can't shoot 50% with Larry Bird.

On a sidenote, does anyone know a 2kshare roster which had the classic teams' RATINGS updated?

They are a quick scoring fast-break team with somewhat weak defense. Very deadly shooters. Very skilled from 3 point land. Play the pick and roll a lot with the best pg (Steve Nash) and a good up and comming center (Gortat). New defensive draft Markieff Morris to help at PF.

Na, that trade was about freeing about a bunch of money and acquiring Gortat. But I like Jared Dudley better anyways. Carter was playing terrible last season. We will eventually get rid of Pietrus too. I think next season.

My opinion on the J.D. and V.C. situation is answered in the middle I think.

I'll surely be picking this game up tomorrow, but I feel what a lot of other folks are feeling in terms of the lockout's effect on the game. All the improvements are going to make it feel new and awesome, but the old rosters and lack of rookies is definitely a major drag. One of my favorite things about new basketball video games is having all the newest transactions accounted for with players exactly where they should be (rookies included). Even with super updated rosters on 2K11, for some reason it's not the same as having a new game with those new rosters.

Like I said before, my extreme interest in classic teams is likely what is keeping me really hyped for this game. I'm just hopeful we'll be able to work around the janked out way classic teams must be edited this year. I'd be nonplussed if roster makers on the 360 weren't able to re-create seasons this year.

Snagged the Larry Bird cover this morning. I figured I had MJ last year and the Magic picture wasn't even of prime Magic, so I went for the guy in green. Couldn't help but wonder if the clerk thought it was more than a coincidence that the white guy wanted to buy the game with the white guy on the cover. Thankfully, I received the code, so I am pleased. Game's in my car's middle console for now though, for I must work until later today. I am looking forward to 2K time. And hopefully the lockout ends soon.

All four years of college I had a roommate who had a ps3 or xbox. Now I'm graduated and out on my own and I have neither. This game looks so good I'm buying a ps3 and 2k12 on Wednesday. Gonna be some tired mornings at work over the next few weeks. Does anyone know if best buy, game stop, walmart, etc sell refurbished ps3's that cost a little less?

I think I read that there weren't as many Bird/Magic covers as MJ covers, although I think they'd make a bigger deal about them if they were limited additions.

I picked up the Magic one. It was really 50/50 for me, I just knew I didn't want another MJ cover if I had the choice.

To the actual game:

I've spent most of my time on the my player so far and I think the addition of contracts and the 2nd money system is genius, I just have to get enough money to actually buy some useful stuff. Btw, played for like 2 hours and my team (Suns) traded Nash, Hill and Dudley for Gay, Udoh and Amundson. Also while the AI on defense is greatly improved, I still feel like my teammates are idiots.

They totally re-did Dirk. It's about time. In 2K11 his basic jumpshot made it so he always stepped on the 3point line while shooting. The new shoot is more compact and quicker to release.

I unlocked MJ but got my azz handed to me on a platter by Dominique and Shaq, respectively while trying to unlock Bird & Ewing.

Also found it funny that Dirk's "clutch" rating was 95 while LBJ's was 60 (I think it was 60)

Lastly, what are the chances of 2K releasing Barkley as DLC if they happen to sign him after the fact?

No, it is not BS. That was the perk of preordering the game. You got to decide which cover you wanted. There is a limited supply of Bird and Magic so that's why they can't hand those out to anyone.

At best buy they had A LOT of copies of the game. Like I don't think I've ever seen so many of a single game, and while there were probably as many MJ covers as Bird/Magic combined, they had a lot of each and I was able to just grab whichever I wanted.

Like the tons of new moves, the AI, the graphics etc.

However, I can't get into it like I got into 2k11. 2k11 was so much more different than 2k10 it made it absolutely a new game.

I admire the effort by 2k by giving us good graphics, tons of cool moves and more realistic gameplay, but it doens't feel much more different from 2k11. Is like I am playing the same game but improved.

I know that sounds silly, but I have played 2k11 so much that I wouldn't even want to play it that much anymore even improved.

Hoping by 2k13 they bring a new changed engine out and a game that differs from his precesessor.

The first thing I did was play an exhibition game with the Mavs to see if everyone is accurate or if you need to make changes.

that ended up being one of the funnest games ive ever played
