There were no meetings expected today or tomorrow, but with cancelation of regular season games looming Monday, suddenly owners and players are reportedly changing plans and meeting TONIGHT!

SO LET ME GET THIS straight

The players are looking to get a 53% deal, while the owners want a split 50-50?

Nothing is going to happen. It's going to be the same story over and over; "Little to no progress made in recent meeting" "Both sides can't find agreement" "More game cancellations looming"

It's such bullshit; **** both sides, but **** the owners mostly.

Jesus Christ himself could be offering deals and the owners still wouldn't accept it. I'm sorry, but the harsh reality is that we will most likely miss this season. This false optimism is probably because the NFL resolved their "lockout" easily, but their situation was nowhere near as bad as the NBA's.

As many reporters tell us, it makes much more sense for one side....ANY side....to just give in and start the season. Otherwise, BOTH sides lose money they'll never get back.

Common sense says SOMEONE FOLD. But ego is getting in the way.

Get it sorted out, NBA.

The way I see it is that I was right, the owners were just doing that 50-50 ultimatum just to try and scare the union one last time. The NBPA was smart enough to realize this and the owners budged on that. This pretty much guarantees to me that we'll see either a 49-51 (players w 51), 48.5-51.5 or a 48-52 BRI agreement today and we'll be getting the season. Don't get me wrong, the players definitely lost this negotiation (they couldn't have won), they're losing like 5-6 percentage points of BRI which is like $1 billion over 6-7 years and will probably see shorter contracts... but it could've been a lot worse.

It's getting done tonight and/or tmrw. The sides have both moved too much in the last 2 weeks to not get this done. With the way they're currently separated, they're only like $80-120 mil apart, meaning losing 2 weeks would end up costing more.

It doesn't sound like they're negotiating the stuff we think they're going to negotiate. According to reports, they're discussing length of contracts and things of that nature. While the legitimacy of those reports is in question, you have to figure they're going to gravitate towards settling this tonight. Now that both parties are finished trying to push one anothers hand, it's zero hour and all posturing and bullshit needs to get cut out.

I'd like to think that both parties realized they stand to lose much more by losing games than they do by perhaps swallowing their pride and sacrificing a bit on both sides.

obviously theres progress if one side decided to have an impromptu meeting(could be the players agreeing to the deal or very very close to it). This could be it.

Both sides are equally responsible for this shit.

After all,it's the owners who locked players up,not the other way around.

Not really. Just because the owners improved their offer doesn't mean they're still giving a fair offer. They claim to have to have lost $300 million a year, well in a 49-51 in favor of the players, they'd still be get over $375 million more than the past agreement (doesn't even include a revenue sharing system). So basically, it's not like the owners have suddenly started making good offers, it's just much better than before (which shows how bad and crazy their first offers were). They're still asking for a 7 percent cut on billions of dollars which is a lot. That being said, if this doesn't get done tonight or tmrw, it his 100% because of egos (from both sides).

All or most key parties have arrived at #NBA labor meeting. In addition to usual suspects, I'm told Glen Taylor and Jeanie Buss on hand.

For players, VP Mo Evans joining @TheNBPA president Derek Fisher, source says. This in addition to lead negotiators for both sides.

Stern said NBA and NBPA agreed to have no comment on the five hour-plus meetings in New York on Sunday night.

i posted here that I met D-Fish at a barnes and noble a month ago and talked to him for a good 15 minutes....mostly about all this crap....

You should listen to me. I wrote on here that fisher never said anything shocking to me, but it was clear from his body language, his tone, and the look on his face that they were FAR away from a deal and that i (we fans) shouldn't hold our breaths waiting for one.

Just based from my interaction with him, I still say no season.

Let's be optimistic here. Who cares if the first two weeks are canceled? If very fortunate they do surprisingly get a deal done, they could just end the season two weeks later than the original date.

Seriously...in the last 2+weeks, they've met for easily 40 hrs. ..and all we know if 46-53, 47-53, 50-53. and as Broussard likes to say "things of that nature" Things of that nature? WTF is things of that nature? Can we narrow it down just a little and what were the sides saying about "things of that nature?"

Bucher has a good tweet on this: It takes 4 seconds to say, "53" and then say, "No, 50." I'm taking no progress in 5 hours to mean, basically, they said that 4500 times.

Can we do BRI guarantee minimum 50-maximum 53. Meaning that if theowners give out contracts below 50% (which they did this year with the 57), the players get up to the 50. If they give out more than the 53 (protecting stupid owners from themselves) the players give it back.

I find it really hard to believe a veteran NBA player like Fisher would give a random stranger 15 minutes of his time at a Barnes & Noble. Maybe a rookie who hasn't learned the way fans are yet.... but not a player who's played as long as Fish. Not to mention he's WAY too busy with this lockout to think to do this.

It's honestly unfathomable. I don't even have a theory of what they do for so long. I doubt derek fisher is sitting there talking mathematics with stern about why his deal is fine, and I doubt they do dinner and a movie. I really really want to know what they do for so long.

It would be cool if they aired this stuff on NBATV. Sort of like a C-SPAN kind of thing but with basketball. I totally get why they wouldn't even consider doing that but, still, it would be nice to get some insight into which parties are either dragging out negotiations or helping things along. Instead, it's just a bunch of cross-talk between two groups who clearly have disdain for one another and their brand of negotiation tactics.
