The 1st Anime/Manga Draft [Archive] - Message Board Basketball Forum

Since we're having a comic book draft, I thought we'd f*ck this up Jap style.

1. There are 5 rounds
2. Every round has a randomized order
3. A pick has a 8 hour time limit
4. If you fail to abide by the time limit, your pick will be moved down at the end of the round
5. Upon a second failure to meet the time limit, your pick will be moved down to the end of the draft.
6. Each team can only have one character per series, Ex. so if you draft Krillin with the #1 pick, that means no SSJ4 Gogeta for you
7. Each round can only have one character per series, Ex. if someone drafts Edward Elric in a round, Alphone Elric cannot be drafted, nor anyone else from FMA, until the round is over.
8. Only 1 form of a player can be drafted, Ex. if you draft Yusuke Urameshi (Base Form), then Yusuke Urameshi (Demon Form) is off limits, same thing with Goku, Ichigo, etc.
9. An extension of #4, you can also only draft a certain age of a character. So if you draft SSJ2 Teen Gohan, that means Adult Gohan, Kid Gohan, Great Saiyaman, etc is off limits.
10. If you draft a Pokemon Trainer, you must pick a Pokemon that they obtain in the manga. So if you draft Red, you have to specify which Pokemon he is using, so Red (Poliwrath) or Red (Pikachu). Rule #4 applies here as well, if someone drafts Red (Poliwrath), then nobody else can draft another Red.
11. If you are using a Yu Gi Oh! character, you have to use a card they summon. Ex. Yugi (Dark Magician) or Kaiba (Blue Eyes White Dragon)
12. Cases like rules #6 and #7 will probably come up again and will be addressed.
13. You have to prove that the character is canon if it is in question. Canon is defined by the original writers intention. Sadly, SSJ5 Goku or Xicor, or SSJ4 Gohan is not canon, because those extensions of the characters are from Dragon Ball AF, which is not from the original writer. Same thing with video games, SSJ3 Vegeta and LSSJ3 Broly from Raging Blast are off limits.
14. More subjective rules can be added depending on the anime/manga.
15. When you make a draft pick, you must post proof the the characters validity.
16. ABSOLUTELY NO OMNIPOTENT CHARACTERS!
17. ABSOLUTELY NO REALITY WARPING CHARACTERS!
18. If you have a character with a robot, you either have to pick the character or the robot. You can't have both.
19. In combat, you may only have a 1 on 1 battle

DB1. On Dragon Ball fusions: If someone drafts a fused character, then you may draft their fusees. Ex. If Gogeta is drafted, then you may still draft Goku and Vegeta.
DB2. Due to Rule #19 of the Main Rules, if you have a fusion dance character, when your time limit runs out you are disqualified.

If you read the rules, you would understand that each team can only have 1 Dragon Ball character, the same goes with every other series.

Because Akira Toryiama, the founder of Dragon Ball, co-produced and helped with illustration for GT.

Some fans do not consider GT canon due to the fact that this series was not directly written by Akira Toriyama. Additionally, GT was not originally produced as manga like its predecessors Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, and contains minor events which seem inconsistent with its predecessor anime adaptation (see list of inconsistencies in Dragon Ball GT).

Though Toriyama did not personally write GT, he did strictly oversee its production; this was the same process that was used during the production of the anime series Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. He drew a rough design for the GT logo, and he designed the GT appearance of the series main cast, as well as the appearances of Giru and the GT spaceship used in the Black Star Dragon Ball Saga. He also drew at least three color pictures of Goku, Pan, and Trunks adventuring on various planets (Monmaasu, Rudeeze, and an unnamed planet).

When I say canon, I have a specific meaning for the word described in the rules. Canon in regards to this draft is "any character created or produced by the original writer of the series." Therefore, Dragon Ball GT is valid in this sense.

I am interested because I've been trying to come up with a method so to see it try to work out would be good.

However 2 things:

1) Imma be in the comic book draft. With work I'm not on the comp as much but I still could prob participate in both without missing a beat.

2) Are you gonna do a list? You should do a list because with free reign we could pick omnipotents. Or maybe even like just narrow down the shows.

So put me down for interested but not a certainty yet.

I like the voting thing. Sounds good to me. Characters like God from FMAB, and Garlic Jr. who is immortal would be banned. We could make a ban-list as we go along too.

No. The Saiyans are still mortal. And in account of battle, even SSJ4 Gogeta has flaws, he has a total arrogance issue and likes to toy around too much.

All you have to do is prove they are a canon character from the original writer. So if you picked Mewtwo for example, your post would look a little something like this:

For fantasy draft, you just need to have clear certain rules in the front page so everyone who want to join knows how things are gonna be. I won't be able to read every words in every pages to know everything you want me to.

The 5 hour rule is kinda unattractive to me so I have to decline. I'm pretty busy for the next couple of days so I don't think I'd have the time to research who my draft choices would be and their priorities.

HA! This was exactly my pick under the current rules, but I'm not sure his power, you know.... being super lucky, is considered reality manipulation.

I feel like this draft will be more of a trial run to a better one. A lot of grey areas, you could argue either way that being lucky is manipulation.

Luckyman is the luckiest superhero in the universe. His attacks are all fairly weak, but they always do massive damage in some form because he’s incredibly lucky. If he pulls a “Big luck” or “Eternal luck” card, there’s simply nothing anyone can do to defeat him. Minmei would try to sing, only she’d lose her voice at the crucial moment, and then possibly forever. Kenshiro would attempt the Musou Tensei, only to suffer a diabetes attack and then die from scurvy because he doesn’t eat vegetables. Light would mistakenly write his own name on the Death Note, or choke on a potato chip. Shinji would *********e, slit his wrists, and cry.

Even the greatest fighters on this list have had to rely on a little luck from time to time, only Luckyman relies on a lot of it, every time, and he has the ability to produce it, every time. You don’t have to believe me—the Japanese themselves have anointed Luckyman the most powerful being in anime in forums like 2Channel and other message boards. Since they created all of these guys, we should take their word for it.

The robot is like their equipment, it's like saying you can pick aragorn but he doesn't get his sword.

And you can't vote something off because it is too epic, he doesnt violate any rules of the original post and doesn't warp reality like lucky man does. By having summonable luck that manipulates the weaknesses of others around him he is warping reality.

Hes just the benefactor to it.

On the topic at hand, STTGL is transcendent. But it wasn't outlined in the rules we couldn't pick those guys so unless we change the rules, hes ok in my book.

Not necessarily. Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan could definitely beat Super Vegito. Luckyman of course is incredibly flexible. They are certainly top tier characters, but they can be beaten. Especially if they go up against each other. There will be 7 DB characters at the most, and they all have to fight each other at some point. Plus its up to a vote anyway.

How about these rules for Round 1?

Round 1:

Rules:
1. The tournament format is round-robin, each team will face the other at some point. So 6 matches.
2. There will be 3 judges. These judges will determine the outcome of each match.
3. Another responsibility of being a judge is they will randomly select the fighters for each match. Your team will be posted 1-7 on a league roster, and they will use the random.org generator to see who will face each other in the match.
4. Once a character has been used in the first round, they cannot be used again. To note which characters have competed, the name of the character will be bolded on the league roster.
5. There are two different types of defeat in the tournament. There are defeats and there are kills. A defeat is simply a match that ends up with two well-matched fighters that cannot definitively kill each other in a structured match. A kill is also a mark on the loss column, but if your character suffers a kill, then that character is dead and cannot be used again for the entire tournament. It is essentially voided. This happens on two typical occasions, 1. a huge mismatch, or 2. an elimination match which will probably not come up until the championship. Whether a match ends up in a defeat or kill is also determined by the judges.
6. If there, for some reason, is a blatant argument against the judges, a veto will be established for each match. In round 1, the veto will be established by whichever character is on a bye. The veto is a representative of the competitors. Hopefully, our judges will do an unbiased, authentic job and will do their best to make the most realistic decisions, so that we never have to come to that point.
7. The 2nd round will be dependent on how many characters are left. As of right now, I think the Top 4 records will advance.

You can read the manga or watch the OVAs to get an idea.
The OVAs were released in different order, kinda like the first star wars movies were 4-7, and then they released 1-3. Only 13 ovas and a film. The film is about the original arc of the story.

How are these?

The Anime/Manga Tournament Rules

The Quarterfinals:
Rules:
1. The tournament format is round-robin, each team will face the other at some point. So 6 matches.
2. There will be 3 judges. These judges will determine the outcome of each match.
3. Another responsibility of being a judge is they will randomly select the fighters for each match. Your team will be posted 1-7 on a league roster, and they will use the random.org generator to see who will face each other in the match.
4. Once a character has been used in the first round, they cannot be used again. To note which characters have competed, the name of the character will be bolded on the league roster.
5. There are two different types of defeat in the tournament. There are defeats and there are kills. A defeat is simply a match that ends up with two well-matched fighters that cannot definitively kill each other in a structured match. A kill is also a mark on the loss column, but if your character suffers a kill, then that character is dead and cannot be used again for the entire tournament. It is essentially voided. This happens on two typical occasions, 1. a huge mismatch, or 2. an elimination match which will probably not come up until the championship. Whether a match ends up in a defeat or kill is also determined by the judges.
6. If there, for some reason, is a blatant argument against the judges, a veto will be established for each match. In round 1, the veto will be established by whichever character is on a bye. The veto is a representative of the competitors. Hopefully, our judges will do an unbiased, authentic job and will do their best to make the most realistic decisions, so that we never have to come to that point.
7. The 2nd round will be dependent on how many characters are left. As of right now, I think the Top 4 records will advance.
8. You have to pick 1 fighter to forgo the 1st round before the round begins. If you should advance to the Semifinals however, this fighter cannot forgo this round.

The Semifnals: (assuming that every fighter from all advancing teams lives, which probably won't happen, then the rules will adjust...)
1. This round will be a double round robin tournament.
2. The opponents are randomized like in the Quarterfinals.
3. The three judges may increase to 5 due to eliminated contestants.
4. The Top 2 records will advance to the championship.
5. Like the Quarterfinals, you must pick a fighter to forgo the Semifinals before the round begins. It cannot be the fighter who skipped the Quarterfinals.

The Finals:
1. Each match is a fight to the death. The match is not over until one of the opponents has killed the other one. Judges will need to base their judgement on which fighter can kill the other one in a 'death match'. A death match is a fight that consists of no time limit or rules. Opponents will also have to write their synopsis based on how their fighter can kill the other one abiding by the 'death match' rules.
2. If one opponent is short of fighters, he must choose which fighters to be revived.

Certain instances:
1. One team has 3 fighters left, the other has 1 left. The team with 1 fighter left may choose 2 fighters to revive.
2. One team has 7 fighters left, the other has 1 left. The team with 1 fighter left may revive ALL his dead fighters.
The scenarios are many.

3. Instead of randomized order like the previous two rounds, the teams will send a fighter they want to compete to the Head Judge by PM. The Head Judge will reveal who is fighting in the combat thread.
4. The winner of the tournament will not be decided until one team's fighters are all dead.

The character for whom the story is named. Designated #28, Akira has immense, almost godlike psychic powers, although from outward appearances he looks like a small, normal child. He is responsible for the destruction of Tokyo and the beginning of World War III. After the war, he was placed in cryogenics not far from the crater created by him, and the future site of the Neo-Tokyo Olympic Games. Shortly after being awoken by Tetsuo, he causes the destruction of Neo-Tokyo during a confrontation between Kaneda and the Colonel's forces. Later in the story he becomes Emperor of the Great Tokyo Empire. When he first appears, we see that Akira has not aged in the decades he was kept frozen. All I would need you to do is to pick who would win based off the opponents synopsis of why they should win, and to use a generator to randomize matches. You don't have to know the characters very well, you just need to look them up and pick who wins.

Well, still, you can only have 1 character from a series, you have to change your pick. You have to have 7 characters from 7 different series.

no he died when he did the soul sealing jutsu on Madara and sealed the nine tales inside of Naruto. I stopped reading at the meeting of the five kages but as far as I know he's never come back to life, however his spirit talked to Naruto once to give him motivation

no deirara was the dude on the bird he got bitched out by sasuke when really he should have dominated and now that i think about it though it it wasnt for the authors love of sasuke Sasuke would have been a dead man 3 times over, Deidara but microscopic explosives on each of sasukes bloodcells bus sasuke did some bullshit space time to survive it and then Deidara did a nuclear blast level self destruct which Sasuke again used bullshit to survive.

Considering the microscopic explosives technique which is undodgeable because he puts it in the air you breath without you knowing PLUS his amazing tactical skill Deidara was probably the most HAXED Naruto character but he got screwed by the writer, because sasuke shouldnt survived microscopic explosives on everyone of his bloodcells and don't know how any other character would be able to either
