View Full Version : Torres returns to top form-world is f*cked

Fernando Torres has returned to elite form, recently showing an emphatic double against Belgian champions Gent.
With the elite Torres leading the line, Merieles, Cech, David Luiz, JT, Lamps, Cole, Ramires, Daniel Swagger aka Sturridge and Mata it is safe to say we have the strongest and most talented first 11 in the premier league.
AND ESSIEN OUR BEST PLAYER ISN'T EVEN PLAYING BECAUSE INJURY.
Safe to say that this is going to be a blue year and European glory finally is upon us.

Genk is THE CHAMPIONS OF BELGIUM
he also scored against Manchester United and could have nearly had 3 if not for the biggest fluke miss ever and a few more bad misses he had before reaching his top form. The following games he has proceeded to score a goal a game though for us.
Wait till Chelsea plays manchester united, their defense is better than barca or reals I heard-O WAIT Torres already tore that defense apart, if only for his poor finishing at the time he would have had 3 easy goals

When did Torres tear Real apart? Maybe in his Atletico days but not recently.

We beat barca in 2009 clearly, unless you expect Lampard would have missed all 5 penalties we earned.
We didn't lose to barca, first of all they tied us, and second of all UEFA and the refs defeated us, not measly Barcelona, who couldn't do jack shit against us over 180 minutes and we and Rubin Kazan are still the only teams they're afraid of.
Seriously, Messi was shut down and looked like nobody, by both Bosingwa and Cole, Iniesta and Xavi could do nothing against our midfield except roll harmless through balls to Alex's feet or Petr Cech's arms. Their bullshit boring possession game has no effect against our organization and their defense can only cope with our direct counter attacks by cheating and throwing our players on the ground in fouls disgraceful to the game.
mata is another famous Barca killer, probably why we bought him.
If Pique is allowed to defend with his hands again, and Dani Alves is allowed to simply throw players on the ground in the penalty box and go unpunished we might be in trouble, otherwise we should have Barca's number easily.

wtf are you on about, we took a month to adapt to the new system and all the new players brought in who didn't get to practice with the squad in training camp and now things are clicking in to place and Villas-Boas philosophy is taking shape. It is hardly horrid considering we are one point behind Wankchester United who everyone crowned gauranteed champions of the universe after their first 3 games against shitty opponents.

Lol what is Chelsea's roster, it destroyed and dominated "the greatest roster ever assembled" over both legs, shutting those scrubs down at Camp Nou and then absolutely dismantling them at the bridge.
If Barca weren't allowed to defend with their hands in the box, throw players on the floor blatantly, and drag players down by their shirts and arms then we would have won that tie by 3+goals.
Michael Essien scored the goal of the year and Chelsea put in a masterclass of counter attack direct and beautiful football and it is forever tarnished by UEFA and Michael Platini's hatred of the blues and blatantly fixing the game against them.
Messi was shut down completely, as were Xavi and Messi. No team has ever thouroughly dominated Scrubcelona like we have ever since then.
Barca still has fear in their hearts when they think of chelsea blue. Hopefully they are prepared for revenge because we will destroy them when we eventually meet up this year, hopefully sooner than later but in the final it would be alright to serve them the revenge they deserve infront of a billion person audience

Even the Barca players themselves admitted they were lucky to be helped so much by the refs and kept to their bullshit mantra of "the true victory of this tie was football" despite the fact that Chelsea played a much more beautiful direct and attacking game creating all the chances in the tie and Barca just played boring possession, had no ideas, and created 0 chances.

Yes it's not true. You must be insane, or you haven't seen any of their matches in the past 3 seasons.
They are not as extremely ball dominant like Barca, but they definitely play more possession based than counter attacking. They've commanded possession in all of their CL games so far.
On topic comment:
2 goals in a gimme game against below average competition does sound exactly like prime Torres. He does well in the gimmes, but shoots below par in the important games.

they play a different system under this under heynckes
under van gaal they played a possession game similar to barcelona
heynckes doesn't play a counter attacking game but all the players now need to run back to help on defense

Scoring against Gent is not an accomplishment. Bottom beams of APL would beat them.
With that said, Torres is a world class player, and his struggles were more psychological than anything after prolonged periods of not playing after injuries. He is starting to acquire mental stability again and gain confidence, which means bad things for opposing defenders. Hopefully, injuries avoid him, as he is a true talent that I really like watching play.

It's too bad that that Thomas Muller had that bullshit suspension against Spain after Lionel Messi tried to handle the ball and it coincidentally hit Thomas Muller's hip and arm after. Dude was ON FIRE at the World Cup. I feel that affected the young and inexperienced German team a lot.
And like almost half of Germany's players had possible yellow card suspensions for the final so I feel like they couldn't play like themselves against Spain. Shit was frustrating to watch.

Brazil is weak, Argentina is in a dark age generation of talent (their midfield is shit and face reality, Messi is not the same player without Xavi and Iniesta making all those chances for him) and their three best players Aguero, Tevez and Messi all play the same position and struggle on the field when playing together, Italy is mediocre and Serie A is dying, Xavi is getting old, right now Germany with Ozil, Gotze, Schweinsteiger, Nuer, Muller, Kroos, Khedira and Gomez has the greatest generation of players in the world, no reason they shouldn't be able to win many world and european cups, they have been my favorite national team to watch since 2010 BY FAR they play fearless and beautiful. Barca = #1

Xavi is getting old, yeah right like that means something to his game, he doesnt have any injury concerns and doesnt really need to run fast or defend or anything like that... just make the damn pass... and spain has great midfielders alonso, iniesta, silva, and some other young prospects like canales and muniain .... so yeah... good luck to germany

Nobody expected Germany to do great either in 2010 with so many injured players before the World Cup. But it did give a lot of young and inexperienced players the chance to shine.
Spain is still a nobody compared to Germany in international football. They played a great Euro 2008 and weaseled themselves to a 2010 world cup victory with theatrics and a bunch of dodgy decisions their way throughout the tournament.
Germany is a tournament team. They can have sub par teams like from 2000-2008 and still make semi finals and finals. Now with all the talent the expectation can only be the title.

So far they haven't "dominated" anything. They played a great Euro 2008 and then they weaseled themselves to a World Cup.
And tournaments aren't played on paper. Even if Spain is stacked with talented players, that doesn't mean they'll "dominate for years to come".
If they do win more tournaments in the years to come, I hope they do so in a nice fashion. Spain used to be my back up team. I always hoped they do well. anyway, spain could play some ****ing brilliant football if Del Bosque showed a little bit more of love for silva. that guy is the one who can bring the fireworks to an already effective, technical and overall very solid side. Hazard is not amazing, he does nothing internationally with belgium, if he was as good as some people say he would not still be playing in the shitty French league.

I haven't played football manager in 3 years, I wish I could but my powerbook is 5 years old and too slow to run the new editions.
Don't project yourself on to me, just because you and aleonelmessi haven't watched alot of Mario Gotze playing doesn't mean I haven't. I actually watch more Bundesliga than premier league because for me it is the most exciting league and style of football in the world, Italian technique mixed with English directness.
It's true I haven't seen Eden Hazard play so much except when he is in the CL, but he doesn't stand out to me ever as a player who will do anything, and I can tell this by the fact that I only ever hear about him doing well in the french league but every time I watch belgium play or Lille in the CL he does not stand out at all.
He is not on the level of Mario Gotze who IMO is a genius.

Modric is better than Gotze right now IMO
Gotze might be better than Ozil now, and yep I truly believe he has potential to become the best player in the world and assuming things keep going the way they are for him maybe even potential to be an alltime-great.

Can add that he just said Sturrigde is a better player than Nani.
Sturridge-younger, faster, stronger, dives less, scores with his head and his feet, creates more goals and scores more goals than Nani
How exactly is Nani better than Sturridge? He is better at cheating out freekicks with dives and doing stepovers?
Mr Clutch Melo
10-22-2011, 01:51 PM
First, Nani is faster than Sturrigde and he also has much better technical skills. Nani has played at a world-class level for 2.5 seasons now, what the hell has Sturrigde proven? 10 appearances for Bolton and 5-6 games for Chelsea? All against mediocre / weak opposition.
Nani has the last two seasons have been assist king and was among those who create the most chances for teammates (see OPTA-Stats if you do not believe me). Also owned the player you call "the world's best back," Ashley Cole. Sturrigde might score more goals because he is a striker. Nani has proven itself in all levels, master league, international for Portugal and in the premier league. Sturrigde is not even in England SQUAD.
Stop overrating him. 99 % of this board would pick both Balotelli and Nani over sturrigde.

Exactly, this is Nani's ONLY advantage over Sturridge right now.
Sturridge is a natural center forward playing out of position as a winger, THE SAME POSITION AS NANI, and despite playing in a position he's never played before he is still scoring at a much higher rate than Nani and assisting his teammates at a much higher rate than Nani. He is also tracking back and defending, something Nani hardly ever does and sucks when he tries.
It is much easier to make the Portugal squad as a winger considering they only really have Ronaldo, Simao who is a grandpa and Quaresma who sucks than it is to make the England squad as a striker. National teams are stupid to bring up in this argument, plus Nani is like 4 years older.
Nani is NOT more technically gifted than Sturridge, U21 coaches and teammates have called Sturridge one of the most gifted technical players they have ever seen and said they have seen him do things in training they couldn't even imagine. He is just young so hasn't put everything together on the field yet. But don't think because he doesn't do ten million stepovers like Nani that he isn't as talented. Instead of stepovers and tricks Sturridge just chooses to score goals.
And no, Sturridge is actually one of the most athletically gifted players his age in Europe right now, which is why Chelsea have been after him since he was 15. Nani does not have a pace advantage on Sturridge, not at all. Nani has never "owned" Ashley Cole, but sometimes he outplays him.
You say Sturridge has only played well for 15 games? Fair enough if we ignore everything he has done for U21s and his Chelsea games last season when given starting.
Ballotelli has much more first team experience with both Inter and Man City and still has done far less than Sturridge has and for Man City especially has probably only played well in 3-4 games in who knows how many?
