The notion that ISH has the collective knowledge to comment or form an intelligent list is laughable. Posters with actual knowledge are few and far between. As has been proved on numerous occasions (most recently in March, to the best of my knowledge, unless there's been something else released since then), the fact is that "most people," by and large, are ignorant.

Being top 10 doesn't justify being voted 1. There's a pretty big gap between 1 and 10.

And you're the one complaining about people trolling. I'm telling you it's because you encouraged it. You're letting the trolling happen in your own thread by taking the trolls' votes seriously.

Just curios.....when I give out rankings I always give it based off of players I follwed and was able to experience almost their whole career...

First of all, you can save the "next" crap. Either answer the question like an adult (if you are one), or don't answer it.

I asked because "all time" means all time, not "when I started following basketball." If one is unable to speak as to the relevant candidates, then why in the world do they feel... compelled to give their opinion on the subject when they can't speak to those key words ALL TIME. I consider myself and have been considered by others to be knowledgeable, yet I do not feel the need to offer my opinion in every thread I see, yet for some reason, people who don't have the requisite knowledge have to give their two cents on topic they don't know enough to have an informed opinion about.

Stick to GIES (Greatest I've Ever Seen) instead of GOAT, and maybe learn something from people who are able to speak intelligently on the subject. ("I never saw Jordan, so therefore he never existed, and Kobe is my GOAT?" Is that opinion supposed to carry any weight?)

1) Assuming that no one who voted for Russell or Jordan ever saw them; 2) still doesn't change the fact that this is about greatest of all time, not greatest I ever saw. If you don't know enough to intelligently comment, then don't chime in.

And I'm pointing out how stupid it is for people to comment on a Greatest of All Time thread who don't have the knowledge to be able to speak about ALL TIME. I will never go on a hockey forum and give my "opinion" on who I "think" is the GOAT hockey player because I don't know anything about hockey in order to give a worthwhile opinion. I don't have any problem with acknowledging my ignorance in this area, and leaving hockey GOAT discussions to people who actually know something about the subject. A teenage Kobe was a scrub who wasn't any better than Eddie Jones, choking in the clutch against Utah. That was actually a pretty good indicator of things to come for Kobe's career.

And NO, Pippen and Rodman were NOT robbed of anything. If so, Pau Gasol was robbed of the 2009 and 2010 Finals MVPs. In 2009, Gasol outplayed Dwight Howard, while playing great D on him. In 2010, Gasol was more efficient and more consistent against the Celtics than Kobe who choked in the Finals as usual. No Gasol = 1st round knockout for Kobe.

LOL at Kobe continuing to make All Defensive 1st Team the past couple of years when Trevor Ariza('09) and Ron Artest('10,'11) were CLEARLY better defenders and ALWAYS drew the toughest opposing perimeter player.

I don't know much about this Deuce Bigalow poster, but I can already tell he is far more intelligent than you will ever be. Keep trying to convince us that you're not some pimple faced 15 year old who wacks off to Kobe mixes on youtube cause that's the only action you'll ever see in your miserable existence. None of us believe you. Why is Alphawolf not banned yet? I used to report his posts but nothing ever came of it. Why? All he does is troll and post blatant lies and bullsh*t. ShaqAttack already exposed his @$$ lying about Shaq and Kobe's stats in the 4th quarters during the 3peat. I've forgotten more about basketball than Alphawolf "knows". I pretty sure most posters on this site have as well.

I wasn't alive during the time of FDR, so I guess when it comes to talking about the greatest presidents in US history, I can't mention him right?:facepalm No, I did not witness players like Wilt or Russell. When I started getting into the NBA, Magic, Larry and Kareem were on their way out. That doesn't keep me from deducing, through my own research, that they were ALL BETTER players than Kobe. They all had more impact on the basketball court than Kobe ever has and have had much better postseason and Finals runs.

Funny how he harps on "Jordan fans" when Kobe fans are universally recognized as the scum of NBA fans. A disgrace to TRUE Lakers fans. Clearly the most uneducated, basketball illiterate fans I've EVER come in contact with. Only thing I can suggest is to keep reporting his posts. I'm gonna start doing it again and maybe if enough of us flood Jeff with reports, he'll finally be banned.

Last thing, to the OP, once you narrow it down to a couple of players(namely Jordan, Russell, Kareem, possibly Wilt), then it's really subjective. Whatever you prefer. There is no clear cut GOAT. A case can be made for each of those players I mentioned.

Last thing, to the OP, once you narrow it down to a couple of players(namely Jordan, Russell, Kareem, possibly Wilt), then it's really subjective. Whatever you prefer. There is no clear cut GOAT. A case can be made for each of those players I mentioned.
Is there any group of fans more deranged than Kobe haters? I can't even imagine how much hate you have for a player you've never met...to write such a angry, bitter post. Clearly, Kobe has tainted your heart black with hatred. He has poisoned your soul. In short....

U mad.

this is a top 10 players voting thread, top 10 players can be voted

I've seen more than one list with him already top 20 all-time. Kobe being top 10 is debatable, anyways, and even if he is top 10, he's tenth IMO. If I'm feeling REALLY, generous 9th, if I'm feeling like Mother Teresa then maybe 8th lol. 10th is a looong way from 1st, and considering that Kobe has absoutely ZERO legitimate arguments (not even a single one, in fact) over MJ (the person generally considered the GOAT), he shouldn't be taken as a vote.

It doesn't matter where they are ranked in this case. Both Kobe and LeBron have ZERO case to be the GOAT. Therefore, they are both stupid choices. It doesn't matter if Kobe is 10th and LeBron is anywhere from eleventh to five hundredth, they're both retarded votes.

LeBron James, unless you can give me ONE legitimate argument Kobe has for being the GOAT.

Kobe is a top 10 player, and #1 is inside the top 10
goddamn it dude
Lebron is not near the top 10, so I can't count that

That's not a legitimate reason. Pau Gasol is top 100 and 1 is inside the top 100!
Pau Gasol=GOAT!

I change my vote to Pau Gasol!

(And it's equally stupid how some fanATICS downplay past players in order to prop up current favorites.)

I'm not mad, and there's nothing I could possibly "learn" from you.

A truly intelligent response. But par for the course, unfortunately. Everyone keeps proving me right about ISH as a whole. Someone actually tried to convince me to stay here, but even he couldn't take it anymore, as he saw what I've been saying for some time.

:facepalm

I'm not even a "Jordan stan." In fact, I can't even remember the last time I made a post about Jordan. Kblaze had an excellent post regarding that in August of 2009. If you want "Jordan stans," there are plenty of those running around the internet. One already posted in this thread.

Typical Kobe fan. The sad thing is that people like you make other people dislike the player you so adulate. But I'm not going to waste my time on what has failed to yield any intelligent discussion.

I think people thing this one is over. If you want number 2 you have to restart a new thread with #2 in the title. That's why there aren't many votes coming in at the moment.

Just like when Kobe shut down T-Wack while dropping 24 pts in the 4th quarter.

McGrady was carrying the load through the first 3 quarters.

Kobe is taking it pretty easy the first 3 quarters.

By the time the 4th rolled around, Kobe had far more in the tank.

Kobe was a great defender but containing a prime McGrady the way he was in that 4th would not have happened had he been defending from the get go.

To be honest, here's the best way to do it (poster named GOAT did it and it works great).

Get 10 random posters to rank their top 20 players. Then from those lists, compile a concencus top 20 list in a rough order. Then after that, have a round for each player to be ranked. So for example if Kobe is ranked 20th and LeBron is ranked 21st, you have the first thread named "Top 20 Players of All Time: Fight for 20th, Kobe vs. LeBron"

Then people will vote in that for a few days and will decide who is 20th. Then you move onto 19th etc. That way you're always moving up in players so you're working towards a climax as opposed to moving downwards and getting less interesting. Just an idea though.
