What player do you say is the best dribbler in the NBA? Who has the best handles?
If some player was trapped in the corner, had no one to pass to, and he simply HAD to dribble his way out of it, what player do you want with the basketball?
As always, please toss in some explanation and descriptive adjectives with your answer!

Best pure dribbling skills ? Probably D-Will.
Best dribbling skills combined with speed and quickness ? Derrick Rose

Crossover is a lost art,D-Will is one of the few players who does it somewhat regularly.

jamal crawford is pretty good
Chris Paul. although a defense wouldnt be smart to try to trap any of these elite PGs. so the point is quite moot to see them dribble out of a trap.

Deron Williams. I think he has the best combination of flashy crossovers, facing double teams and preventing turnovers. He doesn't have an obvious flaw like the other great ball handlers:
Crawford - Can't get to anywhere on the floor like D-Will can. Tries to be too flashy at times although he seemed to improve on this since the trade.
Paul - Too conservative at times (hate to knock on this, I'm nitpicking). Disappointing in summer games.
Evans - Not good with his left. His streetball style doesn't always translate in the NBA
Rose - Not as fluid, dribbles too high at times. His handles gets masked due to his athleticism and quickness.
Wall - Turnover prone

When you talk about dribbling , I look at size , and speed and start deducting from each player who isn't the quickest.
Majic Johnson for example was a 6'8" PG , but used his size to eliminate interventions...
Speedy Claxton and other short players had lights out speed to prevent steals.
There are only three players in the league I consider elite dribbles and all 3 will probably go to the HOF.
Jason Kidd at 6'5" was a couple inches taller than a proto type PG , but his quickness to the spot , speed and height where all used as his weapons to see the floor. Why else would he be a triple double guy :confusedshrug:
He was a sauve' PG with great handles.
CP3 is a inch or two shorter than a proto type PG , but his speed and exceptional quickness gets him to run thru , around , and back into the lane. Can't do that without handles that eliminates turnovers.
He is a constant double double guy,, if he only had better teammates :D
And we come to the 2 time MVP Steve Nash... Size , speed , strength , guts , court vision ... guys this is a master of the handles....
IMO he is the best I ever saw... Just sad to see he never got a ring.

I look at ballcontrol and handling moves and those players you mentioned have it, but what they dont have is the productive outcome of their ballhandling. Why i think those other players have the edge (like Wade, Lebron, Kobe and so on) is that they are much bigger threats with their ballhandling, their ballhandling actually have a much more effective outcome, whats the point of simply being a great ballhandler visually when you cant use it at your disposal to punish the opposing team?

Steve Nash.
Protects the ball very well, can split double-teams, not to fancy with his crossover but effective. I forgot the number of times Nash has just dribbled into the paint and dish it for an easy score inside or a open 3.

i really think DRose's point guard abilities are being overblown by some on ISH. make no mistake, he is a superstar, a great player, a worthy MVP. but he is a Wade type of player. He scores and attacks the rim.
His handles, and passing, although good, are nowhere near true playmaker level like Chris Paul and Steve Nash.

If you're talking about "positive outcome" you're dipping into the scoring realm.
Guys use it to set up offenses and assists, not just scoring.
They set pace, slow things down to allow for communication, and get the defense off balance.
Things like that are often missed by the untrained eye.
There is no question that Mike Conley is a better ball handler than anyone in that second tier.

You're wrong.
D-Rose has the same level talent as those guys he's just a better scorer. He's only 23, and has improved so much there's no reason why he can't get better at passing? And his handles are top notch he breaks off more ball handlers that Nash and CP3 and it's not only due to speed and quickness he has some very polished go-to-moves.
Nash was never thrust into a prominent role as a kid but now all of a sudden people act like young guards can't get better and become 10+ assist-type point guards like him.
Some systems don't really allow for that and some teams don't want one player handling the rock all the time and leading the league in passes stolen every year as well.
People talk about making teammates better and a "team game" but a team game starts with defense and letting everyone get touches/moving the ball around, not just one guy dribbling dents in the floor waiting for a team of cutters and spot up shooters.
Why would Rose run around all day and pass the ball to inferior teammates when he can score and win 62 games?
Just wait until we get a solid offensive scheme haters.

Two points.
1: I never said Rose can't one day become a elite passer/playmaker/dribbler. I said RIGHT NOW, his passing or playmaking or dribbling isn't as good as Nash and Chris Paul.
2: Yes, I must be a Rose hater even though I said he was a worthy MVP, a superstar, and "Wade-type of player" (who is undoubtedly a top 5 player in the world).
Yes... I'm hating. You typed 400 words and you missed the point completely.

I don't think Lebron's that great a dribbler. He is really good no doubt, but I don't know if he's the best dribbler among small forwards. Part of the reason he is so good at protecting the ball is he will probably blow by you or draw a foul or even get an and-1 if you play him too close because of his speed and strength. I don't see Lebron pull out crossovers or anything like that though and sometimes it seems like his first-step dribble moves arsenal is limited. The fact that he can control the ball so well while running at full speed in the open court is impressive though.

YOU missed the point. (however I agree with #1)
You say he's a Wade-type player but he is not. He can drive and penetrate like Wade but on a team that is well-suited for him Rose would NOT be the #1 scorer. I can't say the same for Wade.
Rose is CALLED to score and [play the point which is not optimal for a young point guard but he handles it. I think you as well as other casual observers get the NEED to shoot mixed up with the WANT to shoot.
Rose needs to shoot more than he WANTS to jack up shots due to the Bulls roster makeup.
many who have more or less great handling like rose, cp3, rondo, deron, nash, j-wall, wade, crawford, kidd, b davis, tyreke, lebron, westbrook and so on....
but the best is without doubt CHRIS PAUL!

nah, Prime Kobe had better handles than LeBron. He has much more moves and could actually create space with it. LeBron's handles are completely overrated. It lacks deception, and he can't create space with it. The only ways he can create space is by bulldozing through the lane, or the stepback J.
I'll give you ball security though, and LeBron has better ball security than Kobe at this stage of his career. Kobe's handle seems a little loose these days. Probably because all those jacked of fingers.

Steve Nash has the best handles no doubt. That's why he's such a special playmaker. He can easility change speeds and his handle is super tight, so he can drive into the lane, and if he doesn't have a good shot, just pull it back out and hit somebody with the assist.
CP3, D-Will, and Rondo are close though.

I would put Nash, CP3, and D-Will into the same category. They are simply the best.
Kobe has great ball-handling skills, but those fingers really messed him up. It's amazing how he can still dribble better than most guards, though.
Have you guys ever had to play with a tape on your finger? I normally have very good ball-handling skills, but even one tape can mess me up.
:lol :lol :lol at Lebron's name being mentioned. He's good for his size, but he's got no business being amongst the elites in this category. You know his handles are not that good when you see him on the open court. He pretty much has to go straight to get to the rim. Can't change direction like you would expect from an elite dribbler. And a few videos don't mean shit, we all watch the games.

6'9"-260 drafted --->POINTGUARD<--- has ballhandling that is only "good" for his size? LOL.... tell me a 260 pounder that was even close to those handles? not even at his length except Magic Johnson....
:facepalm @ these kobetards aka. lebron haters

He can play pointguard all he wants, that doesn't mean he is one of the best dribblers.:facepalm Plus, it's not like him playing pointguard to pad his assists worked out for his teams.:lol

lol at Lebrick being mentioned in this. His handles are mediocre if he was a guard.

yes but in different context.... nobody said he is the best dribbler....
CP3 is the best dribbler... now lets get over it... its really not debatable... he has the best ballcontrol / ballsafety and has the most ridicilous array of handling moves... his handling is unmatched imo... but with that said... its not a MAJOR gap... guys like deron & rondo & nash and so on are close

Nash and CP3 are the first that come to mind. These guys can both keep their dribble while standing in the middle of the lane with multiple defenders around them.

If we're talking about pure "handles," I think it's Baron Davis. He has some crazy flash and unbelievable control of the ball. Nash and Paul are the most effective at using their dribbles though.

Hard to say who is the best. There are a lot of PG's with great handles - Deron, CP3, Nash, Baron.. etc. etc.
There are also a lot of wingplayers with great handles. Some wingplayers that use their dribbling and handles effeciently and have great moves and skills are:
Tyreke Evans - Great crossover and spin dribble. Can blow past his man and get to the rim by using his quick change of direction and speed.
Kobe Bryant - Great at creating space. His dribbling, combined with his excellent footwork make him nearly impossible to guard one on one.
Paul Pierce - He's not fast for a wingplayer, but gets the shots he wants because he is a really crafty ballhandler. Uses headfakes and hesitation moves to create the space he wants for shots. Can get to the rim as well. A really underrated ball handler.

Kidd, Nash, CP3, Kobe.
Worst dribbler is Dalembert.

I would put Nash, CP3, and D-Will into the same category. They are simply the best.
Kobe has great ball-handling skills, but those fingers really messed him up. It's amazing how he can still dribble better than most guards, though.
