How about we make a list of characteristic moves that players had through the years?
I'll make a start. I'm sure I missed plenty of them. And some of them might be too far-fetched.
We could also discuss names for great moves that don't have names (like Charles Barkley's big butt usage when posting up)

Grant Hill - Patient dribble at top of the key, before crossing over and exploding towards the basket.
ERROR.
Grant Hill is all about the mid range jump shot. It's his bread and butter.
Mid range jump shot and a corner pocket 3. And when I say corner 3 I mean corner 99% of the time he is in the corner if shooting a 3 ball.

False..
Grant hill was not known at all for his Mid Range jumper especially when he first entered the NBA...he might have developed one in his mid 30's....after many injuries..
But Hill was known as a "Point Forward" type with above average ball handling skill's....able to break down his defender and get a high% shot....Think of a better "Scottie Pippen" at creating and getting into the lane...
but definitley not a mid range jump shooter....maybe he could get that shot...but it wasn't a consistent or reliable move for him ....
you are thinking of a late 30's Hill on the Suns......not the dominate Slasher he once was..

Pre-injuries Grant Hill was also a deadly mid-range shooter. As long as he was inside the 3 point arc, he could score in many different ways. Trust me, I was and still am a big Grant Hill fan.

Trust me...no one saying Grant Hill isn't a great mid range shooter pre injuries....I know he could score in a variety of ways....but I don't think his outside shot is "deadly" or as dangerous as great shooters...I.E. Dirk , Kobe ,Melo ,Durant etc....Grant Hill just didn't expliot that part of his game to become "deadly"...he relied more on his face up game and getting past his defender to finish..
From 1996- "But it is Grant Hill's inability to hit the open jumpers that is accentuating the team's troubles. "

Which move did Bill Simmons call "The Smoke Monster"?
its a cool nick lol, he calls Lebron that after seeing a chasedown block:
"But LeBron has those "HOLY S---!!!!!!" moments once a quarter. Late in the fourth, Gordon drove past Delonte West and tried to get to the rim, but West timed it and elevated to meet him at the backboard. And I'm watching the play thinking, "Damn, Delonte might get that," when out of nowhere, the smoke monster from "Lost" came gusting in at warp speed, jumped five feet in the air, soared over both Gordon and West and somehow blocked West's block. The smoke monster? LeBron. A blocked shot of a blocked shot!!! Have you ever seen that one before?"
