Who do you say is the strongest player in the NBA?

Think centers and power forwards, of course, but don't forget about swingmen or even guards. There's some tough guys of all sizes in the league.

So, feel free to name more than one. Or even to divide them up by position.

But if you had to name at least one, who is the strongest player in the league?

I guess no one will care to watch this video because no one cares about Chuck Hayes but just look at KG trying to post up on Hayes. This is the first time I saw KG posting up that hard without going anywhere, Hayes was tooooo strong.

Chuck Hayes does that to everyone, Im serious. Dude just does not move when playing post defense. His lower body strength is amazing, his legs are built like a tree trunks.

Bad example, but Pau Gasol couldn't do squat against Chuck in terms of trying to get good position. Kurt Thomas has a similar body style and is the same way while playing post defense.

Yeah, Chuck is a very overlooked defender. He gave Amar'e the business when we played the Rockets. Chuck was definitely a lot stronger than Amar'e, at least in terms of base strength. Although, I think face-up guys like Amar'e are slightly better match-ups against Chuck because at least they can sometimes get the step on him.

Griffin has some power, Ron Artest has that retard strength and craziness, and for a guard, I still think Derek Fisher has a lot of pound-for-pound power at his age.

The Thunder commentators might be the biggest homers in local basketball commentating (and that is saying something because there is some steep competition in that field let me tell you). They are actually suggesting that it's Durant's strength that caused Carmelo to go down here . . .

Even Blake Griffin struggles to get good position against Chuck Hayes. I was actually going to mention Hayes along with a few other players before I decided to make a funny instead.

Chuck Hayes is far from the strongest though. With him it's more his body style. He's arguably the most immovable player in the NBA. His extremely strong base and lower center of gravity than other bigs because of his 6'6 height give him an edge when it comes to backing down or stopping backing down. Not to mention Hayes is an extremely smart and physical defender. His ability to get position is incredible.

The way Kevin Love rebounds with positioning and intelligence, is the same way Hayes is such a good defender. Chuck Hayes and Dwight Howard are the only players Blake Griffin didn't manhandle in the post this last season which tells me Blake is easily among the top 5 strongest if not top 3.

They were the only players he couldn't back down easily.

I'll just give the strongest at each position.

Baron Davis/Derrick Rose/Russell Westbrook/John Wall/Derek Fisher
Eric Gordon/Dwyane Wade/Kobe Byrant/Andre Iguodala/Corey Maggette
Lebron James/Ron Artest/Carmelo Anthony/Joey Graham/Danny Granger
Blake Griffin/Zach Randolph
Dwight Howard/Ben Wallace

These are all in order. Unfortunately the PF and C positions have big gap between the next tier because most bigs now are face up players, midrange shooting bigs and they avoid the post. Griffin and Howard led the league in points in the paint and dunks. Zach Randolph is a very physical post player, prefers high post but nonetheless is very powerful. Even at his age Ben Wallace is incredibly strong and still benches 400 plus even if he's a step slower. So Dwight and Wallace really have zero competition at the 5 spot.

Dwight is definitely strong, but I don't think he's the strongest. He's just really muscular and more muscular physique doesn't necessarily mean stronger.

If you look earlier in this thread I mentioned him but apparently according to some clipper-stalker he is just great at not allowing any big guy post up on him because he got a strong base and lower center of gravity...:facepalm

Chuck Hayes getting some respect! Holy crap! I would never have seen this coming :lol

When it comes to basketball, the biggest show of strength is on the post. Where else do you have a near wrestling match between two player? Certainly not out on the perimeter. IMO, posting up (or defending against) and boxing out are the two biggest indicators of strength (although both can be overcome with enough skill).

I wasn't implying chuck wasn't strong at all dude. He's very strong. I was implying that he's not an all around stronger dude than bigs like Dwight, Wallace, Griffin, Zbo and even SF's like Lebron, Artest and Melo. Not being able to back a player down doesn't mean he's one of the strongest. Dude has monster lower body strength and is 4 inches shorter on average than the players he's guarding which gives him a massive advantage on not being movable by them. It's just basic physics.

It's like in any grappling martial art. It's easier to take down taller fighters because they don't have a good gravity base like someone shorter and stouter. Same exact concept.

You guys are really overrating Dwight. Dwight couldn't muscle an old Sheed out of the paint. Bynum is definitely stronger, f*ck, even guys like Aaron Gray or Fesenko are arguably stronger than Dwight.

I don't think Howard is the strongest player in the NBA. I think he has the strongest upper body, but overall it isn't him since his lower body strength isn't the best.

I'll probably go with Randolph.

By each position it would be something like this

Billups
Kobe
Melo
Randolph
Howard/Bynum

Strength requires muscle fibers to generate force, and given the physical nature of the NBA, most players have relatively low body fat. There are definitely other factors, but being ripped and having strength aren't uncorrelated. If you took that strong-man and put him through the full endurance of basketball training, he would start to shed the fat and become more ripped.

Clippersfan86
10-29-2011, 05:55 PM
World's strongest man pound for pound by a massive distance is this guy. The scientific reason is that unlike most people who are lucky to use 50 percent of their muscle fibers... his body activates 100 percent of them. This guy can break hammers with his bare hands, rip phone books easily and hold a Harley from driving off full throttle.

All this while being 5'6 180 pounds and an older guy.

I posted this here a few years ago the last NBA weight lifting competition was won by Charles Oakley and Kevin Willis and I also believe Antonio Davis and Karl Malone was up there as well. I think Oakley and Willis did something like 225lbs 30 times...i
