Repped.

I'm so glad you posted this cause to me Dr J has been the one player to get UNDERRATED over the years.

Dude was a phenom from what I've seen and was my brother's favorite player growing up (I'm too young to remember HUGE afro Dr J, I barely remember him as an older guy on the Sixers though I vaguely remember the "rock the cradle dunk" on Cooper).

Anyway, he'd give peeps the business right now!

His game (although he didn't have the best handles) easily translates to the present.

Hops supreme and that dunk @ 29secs is  AND THAT'S W/ CHUCK'S ON! Imagine him in some Adizeroes!

It's funny how great players like J. Erving become underrated. It's a product of time and the youth not knowing or recognizing past greatness. This guy was a true baller. There have been so many great and fantastic players in the league (ABA too). 10 years from now the kids won't know who the heck Kobe and Lebron are. Lebron might still be around but he will be old and washed up.

eurostep at 3:17. that's million dollar footage. that old footage looks just like today's NBA in my opinion.

Time erodes greatness:(

There are quite a few players from back then who look modern. If you ever seen live game footage of Bob Mcadoo...hes a beast. Ive seen him go coast to coast and throw in a little crossover then fadeaway form like 15. Ive seen him spinning into 20 footers. He looks like a mix of Dirk and Lamar Odom but he was a center getting 15 rebounds a game.

The way they dribble does not look modern.

That channel and this one: http://www.youtube.com/user/HalGreer15

Are a gold mine. They have 60's color footage.

That's because palming and 3 steps weren't legal. At least not in the 60's NBA.

I love it when great NBA players are also well spoken.

Best collection of Dr. J articles (http://20secondtimeout.blogspot.com/2008/08/great-julius-erving-stories.html)I've read.

This quote from 1972 sounds like something from the modern NBA.

"Just how far Erving will go—and where—are subjects of continuing debate. One school holds that he is already the best forward ever to play the game, another claims he needs a year or two more to polish up his defense and outside shot before he inevitably becomes the best."

Sick video. One of the 5-7 most talented players of all time imo along with MJ, Bird, Magic, Shaq, and probably Barkley. Maybe I'd throw Hakeem in there too. Look at his speed burst at the 26 second mark to catch up with the ball. Sick pass and hangtime at 1:33. Yeah, I see that semi-Euro step at 3:17. I love how people say Dr. J couldn't shoot, yet any time you see actual game footage, he's raining jumpers in the 10-20 foot area.

PS - nice footwork by random white guy at 1:20 on the reverse spin into the fake then the shot.

Good video. This is actually Dr J at his peak. He'd torch the David Thompson led Nuggets for 37.9 points and 14.2 boards in the 76 Finals. Previously, he had 28.5 and 11.4 effort in the 73 winning Finals as well.

There are small forwards his height now , that rarely attempt to get a rebound , and for them to get double digit boards is a rarity.

Most of the modern players rep the rewards of creativity from Earl the Pearl Monroe and Dr. J
Jordan stated his creativity was from Dr.

Just think if Dr. J (DRAFTED BY THE BUCKS) would of come onto the Bucks roster in the 70's // ironically Dr.J's last NBA game was in Milwaukee :)

Doc's game would easily translate! Especially with the no hand check rule, Doc would be devastating. As far as his handle, it was good enough to get where he had to go. Plus he would be scoring plenty in transition and offensive rebounding. We don't need him to be a point forward type player, which he never was. U want him to be the iconic devastating freak athlete scoring machine he is known for. U will also get very good d and rebounding from Doc as well. I hate it when perimeter scoring machines get hated on for not having point guard or point forward type of ability. They are what they are which is unstoppable scorers who can will a team.

It's a shame so few footage of ABA Dr. J is out there. He was a different animal there from his NBA days.
