Possibly the greatest on-fire player ever. Sick numbers all-together. What really impresses me though are the Lakers wins throughout those scoring bursts. The numbers wouldn't really mean much if anything had some of those games been L's.
I'd like to see Lebron, Wade or even T-Mac's scoring facts (maybe when you have time OP..you can share that with us).

Impressive. Wish he still had healthy knees though so he wouldnt have to rely on jumpshots as much as he does now. He used to have a DYNOMITE vert.

I am hoping the time off and the knee procedure he had will help him if there is a season this year. Obviously with age he will never be what he was but he has been playing on a flat tire the past few years.

It helps that the average record of teams he scored 40+ against during '06 and '07 (when he notched more than half of his career games of 40+ points and 50+ points) was 39-42, and the average record of teams that he scored 50+ against during those two seasons was 37-45. Kinda makes it easier to get those W's when you're beating up on garbage teams.

This is actually an excellent point, but his teams were BARELY hovering around .500 themselves.
Notable contender/playoff teams Kobe has scored 40+ or more on (with good efficiency) during the 2006 and 2007 seasons:
2005-12-20 - 62 (18-31 FG) vs Dallas
2006-04-07 - 51 (19-33 FG) vs Phoenix
2006-01-06 - 48 (19-29 FG) vs Philly
2006-04-02 - 43 (19-32 FG) vs Hpuston
2006-03-06 - 43 (17-32 FG) vs San Antonio
2005-11-20 - 43 (17-34 FG) vs Chicago
2005-12-16 - 41 (14-24 FG) vs Washington
2006-03-04 - 40 (13-26 FG) vs Detroit
2006-11-30 - 52 (19-26 FG) vs Utah
There are more than a few solid defensive clubs on that list. Interestingly enough, Kobe only had ONE 40+pt game against a playoff team in 2007 (vindicating my previous claim(s) that 2006 has probably been his best scoring season up to date).

Some awesome stats to say the least.
His shooting prowls will get him into the HOF.
With age , he is showing signs of weary knee's which is typical of how many minutes he has played , but all great players change their game to comp for the loss of some of their athletic prowls..
I see Kobe changing his game , and becoming a team player.

Those were all regular season games. But if you want to talk about playoffs:
2001
Game 4 vs Kings- 48/16/3/2/1 on 15/29 shooting(1/1 from downtown and 17/19 from the line)
Game 1 vs Spurs- 45/10/3/1/1 on 19/35 shooting(1/2 from downtown and 6/8 from the line)
2004
Game 4 vs Spurs- 42/6/5/3/1 on 15/27 shooting(2/4 from downtown and 10/13 from the line)
2006
Game 6 vs Suns- 50/8/5/3 on 20/35 shooting(5/8 from downtown and 5/6 from the line)
2007
Game 3 vs Suns- 45/6/6/1/1 on 15/26 shooting(2/3 from downtown and 13/13 from the line)
2008
Game 2 vs Nuggets- 49/10/4/1/1 on 18/27 shooting(5/9 from downtown and 8/9 from the line)
2009
Game 2 vs Rockets- 40/6/3/1 on 16/27 shooting(2/3 from downtown and 6/7 from the line)
Game 1 vs Nuggets- 40/6/4/1 on 13/28 shooting(2/3 from downtown and 12/13 from the line)
Game 3 vs Nuggets- 41/6/5/2 on 12/24 shooting(2/5 from downtown and 15/17 from the line)
Game 1 vs Magic- 40/8/8/2/2 on 16/34 shooting(8/8 from the line)
2010
Game 1 vs Suns- 40/5/5/1 on 13/23 shooting(3/6 from downtown and 11/12 from the line)
That's 11 in 208 games, which is about 1 in every 19 games. But if you start from 2001, that's 11 in 158 games. That's about 1 in every 14.
From 1991-1998, Jordan did it 19 times in 126 games, which is 1 in every 6.6 games. Obviously Jordan was better in that regard, but point is even for the very best, putting up 40 in a playoff game is hard. You're going up against top defenses. Even Michael Jordan at his best was doing it only about once every 6-7 games. I'm willing to bet during the regular season at his best, he did it once every 4-5 games tops.

I stand corrected. In '87, he did it 36 times, which is 1 in every 2.3 games. But it still shows that stuff doesn't happen in the playoffs, even for the very best.

Basketball Reference only goes back to '91 for playoff games. But in the '88 season, Bird did it 11 times in 76 games(1 in 7) and 6 times in 74 games(1 in 12.3) in '87.

I am so glad to have been able to watch one of the NBA's greatest players his entire career.
I was excited as a young kid to find out the hyped young stud out of high school had been dealt to the Lakers. Never would I have imagined the type of career he would have.
Question his personality, but no one can question his heart, work ethic and passion for the game. Elite talent combined with elite work ethic. That is what has defined Kobe Bryant as a player.
One of the most explosive scorers EVER. There have been many players of his level of talent that have come after him, but none since him have matched his work ethic and dedication to improve.

Obviously during the non ring years. That's when every great player ever has had better stats. You put up the best stats when you're on worse teams. When you're on worse teams you don't win.

Real easy to drop 40 on the regular when defenders aren't allowed to touch you, thanks to the new "Don't Look, Don't Touch" Rules that were introduced.

He did it 19 times(and 9 in a row at one point) in '03 before the new rules.

I also remember the days when Kobe scoring 40 points was almost a dissapointment. If anything, it was just another day. He did it multiple times per month.
With that said, wow, amazing stats. That is truly some incredible scoring output.

Repped
Owned? He just proved it was pretty close to the 2%of the games i mentioned.
I guess you just got owned by your own stupidity. :applause:
From 1991-1998, Jordan did it 19 times in 126 games, which is 1 in every 6.6 games.
And for the career a total of 38 games. Thats 3x more than Kobe. When it matters, not against the craptors and the likes.
Obviously Jordan was better in that regard...
Somehow by proving my point i was owned. That's how retarded Kobe stans are.
Great stuff Heavincent, great stuff.

Kobe is not better than MJ. This thread is not about that. Kobe has more incredible scoring outputs, IMO, such as his 62 in 3 quarters, 81, but that doesn't mean he's better.
Kobe sure is hell the closest thing we have seen yet

Kobe is a great scorer but he struggles vs certain opponents (Detroit, Celtics) and he is very inconsistent (especially efficiency wise). Plus he is so unimpressive as a Scorer on the biggest stage (the Finals).
Honestly I struggle where to rank him as a scorer.
He is definitely behind Shaq, Kareem, Jordan, Wilt, Hakeem.
Then you have Barkley and West who are probably ahead of him and even Malone has a case.
I'd say he is somewhere from 8-15 on the GOAT Scorers list.
Pretty similar to where he belongs on the GOAT list itself (9-15)

Wade is better then Kobe.
He scores on similar Volume but does so more effeciently and is a much better passer.
He also plays well against the best defensive teams (Detroit, Boston) and is a GOAT Finals performer while Kobe is the exact opposite.
If Wade can play at his Current Level for 3-4 more years he will surpass Kobe on the GOAT lists in most peoples opinons.

Kobe has 25.3 ppg career
They dont seem that far apart...
Not to mention all their other stats are close...
But I guess technically speaking Wade is better? I mean you guys all love PPG so much and Wade has better PPG...

Wade doesn't have Kobe's fanbase but he is clearly the better player.
Perhaps if Kobe didn't perform so terribly in the Finals or against good defensive teams you could make an argument that Kobe was better but that's just not reality.

Jordan scored 40+ in 39 playoff games out of 179 playoff games played in total. So he scored 40+ once every 4.6 games in the playoffs over his career, not once every 6.6 games. Not sure why you're limiting it to '91-'98 when you're including basically Kobe's entire effective career (2001 onward). So it's once every 4.6 games for MJ versuis once every 14 games for Kobe in the playoffs.

UMMM....Kobe has NO GAMES of 50-points against a top 5 ranked defense in his 15-year career that didn't go into overtime.....He has 2 career 50-pointers against ONE TEAM (Houston Rockets), in the SAME YEAR, and those games went to overtime and double overtime......AND he only scored 50 points in both those games.
Combine that with playing under the SOFTEST defensive rule sets in NBA history, with 2005-2006 season seeing 11 of the top 20 league scorers have CAREER HIGH seasons.....i'd say his 50-point games are slightly overrated.

Obviously during the non ring years. That's when every great player ever has had better stats. You put up the best stats when you're on worse teams. When you're on worse teams you don't win.
108 of the 135 were on non championship years
27 occurred during championship years.
