All 30 NBPA team representatives will meet today in New York. They have two options: accept NBA's offer or decertify. They'll vote on it.

I think they will say yes. It doesnt make sense for the average player to push this further, especially as the owners want to give them a lesser offer already. Larry Coon had a post several weeks ago about how the different % of BRI is reflected in real dollars and it basically concluded that the difference between 53% and 50% over the entire 6-7 years of the CBA would be lost to the players in current income by january.

Today's meeting will be very interesting. It sounds like both sides have supporters, so there will be plenty of debating this afternoon.

I agree. I think they will say yes but I really really hope that the deal isn't as bad as they are making it out to be. I would fully support them losing a season if it means a much better deal for the younger generation. Thing is, it's not looking like waiting any longer will produce a better deal.

Hopefully yes but I think they gonna drag this till after Christmas. That's the time when both of the sides will come to their senses. They will soon realize that sometimes it's better to give then receive. Greedy mofos.

:(
There isn't much out there that suggests to me that the union will accept this deal. I am prepared to let go of any hope for the season being played at all, and I'm not sure I really care that much anymore.
I love the NBA, and have been a loyal fan for 30 years, but this whole process has just really turned me off to the league, both players and owners. That doesn't mean I'll quit watching or never go to another game again, but I doubt I'll ever have the same passion for the league that I used to. At this point, they don't deserve the attention I give them. It's sad really.

they dont seem to realize that they have nowhere near the casual fan appeal/ drawback of the nfl. If this is an ugly, lost season after a wildly popular post season (and media hyped season of the big three), they will have knocked back their popularity gains (and profits) for half a decade IMO.

You're exactly right. After finally gaining some momentum and hype, they'll risk losing it all with the snap of a finger, and then some. It will take years to recover.

It's hard to say. Even these initial reports of the players expected to reject the current offer can't be trusted, since the same sources were the guys elated over the "lockout being 95% over" a week or two back and filling everyone's heads with ideas that the season was ready to begin.
Honestly, I don't think it ends tomorrow. I think we'll continue with this back and forth garbage, Stern will lower the offer, the players will bitch and complain and eventually it will get pushed back up to either a 50-50 or a 51-49 in favor of the players weeks/months down the line. At that point, the chances of even having a season will be shot altogether.
There's just one sticking point, and that's the usage of the mid-level exception for tax paying teams. Owners want it gone(along with sign & trades), players want it at the full 5 million with 4% raises.

if the lockout ended tomorrow, when would the first game be? 2,3,4 weeks? a week?
edit: checked it out for the 98-99 season, they came to an agreement on 1/18/99, signed deal on the 20th and the first game was on feb 5th.

eh, stern cancelled games up until the all-star break during the other lockout, but they ended up playing 9 days before the all-star game.

I would still think they play early december giving teams a chance to get in some practice, browse free agency, and make trades.
Stern has mentioned times that the league would need at least 30 days to prepare for a season. Remember they still need to go through free agency and a partial training camp, which I would think would include a couple pre-season games. As it stands right now, we're looking at mid December before the season could start.

My feeling is no.
And that sucks.
I look forward to the NBA every year.
If/When the league does restart I'll still watch but we will have lost some serious momentum.
the most sad thing is we are getting robbed of prime years for elite players.

My mind is telling me no, but my body, my body's telling me yes.
Anyhow, here's exactly how it's going to play out tomorrow. They're going to meet, sports reporters are going to update a ton of optimistic tweets, the two groups will exit hours later for a statement, and each side will talk about how badly they want the season to start, but unfortunately the other side was just unwilling to fairly compromise on a very important issue.

Rumor has it that the PA is willing to take the offer as long as they can tweak a few system issues i.e. sign and trades

Honestly, all I want to see is David Stern vs. Billy Hunter in a Money The Bank ladder match. Whoever gets the briefcase at the top of the ladder gets to decide how much of BRI goes to the players.

I read that the players will offer 50-50 tomorrow if they get some minor things on the system. Basically, the players are reversing the NBA's move and giving them all the pressure. Now it comes down to whether the NBA is actually willing to be gracious in their already massive win or keep running up the score.

Thats bold. I am worried because I really don't think Stern was bluffing about the ultimatum. Lets hope I am wrong.

+1
owners stay with their offer
players stay stupid and greedy
If the season ends up being canceled I would love to hear what the players were thinking. Their accomplishments would be:
- Losing millions of dollars. Losing 100% profit this year would not be offset even if they get a 55-45% contract. ( Which they wont )
- Put thousands of people out of jobs and severely hurt many small businesses in urban areas that are already in horrible economic positions.
- Further hurt NBA's future, with NHL and even MLS rapidly growing in popularity compared to NBA
- Face harsh criticism from both media and fans for a long time

If the report is accurrate about the players willing to go to 50-50 (though I read the articles and Fisher's statement, and I am not seeing that)--then this lockout ends soon. The "system" issues are BS.
