According to recent news medias in Europe, the following NBA players are now likely to sign with Euroleague teams soon.........

1. Manu Ginobili - Galatasaray (Euroleague)

2. Hedo Turkoglu - Fenerbahce (Euroleague)

3. Omer Asik - Fenerbahce (Euroleague)

4. Pau Gasol - Barcelona (Euroleague)

5. Marc Gasol -Barcelona (Euroleague)

6. Jose Calderon - Barcelona (Euroleague)

7. Omri Casspi - Maccabi (Euroleague)

-----------------------------------------------------------

While the following NBA players are said to be ready to play in the lower level competition, the Eurocup.

1. Kevin Durant - Valencia (second tier Eurocup)

2. Dirk Nowitzki - Bayern (second tier Eurocup)

3. Tiago Splitter - Valencia (second tier Eurocup)

Apparently, Durant and Dirk are chickens and are too afraid to play in the top level of Euroleague, just like Tony Parker and Deron Williams are also apparently too chicken to play in Euroleague.

While I'm sure both Gasols would love to play for Barcelona if there's a lockout, I'm just not sure if Barcelona should do it.
Sure, the team would get better, but what would happen the following season? The Gasol brothers would leave, and Barcelona's frontcourt would be really thin (it's not like they can keep on the injured list the players that would replaced by Pau and Marc).
Barcelona is a top candidate to win every FIBA trophy as it is, so why risk their future?

Players they need = Pau

Players they don't need at all = Marc and Calderon

They are weak at power forward, having just Wallace behind Lorbek. They could really use Pau. They don't need the other two guys at all though.

they should do it because if the nba is cancelling the whole season, the league will be severely damaged and euroleague and ACB must do everything they can to steal a piece of the basketball cake.

you start by getting all the nba superstars you can to play this season in europe, that way you get sponsors and media attention, and european leagues can grow and narrow the gap with NBA just a little.

also this way, players can see that playing in europe is not that bad, and superstars in their primes already would have done it, setting a precedent.

also, spanish media report real madrid going for dwight howard and/or lamarcus alridge (real madrid trailblazers with rudy, sergio and alridge  )

Fair argument, but in terms of quality players produced European basketball is closing the gap little by little every year because of a better development system for youth players.

How is the gap closing when the last european players to have a major impact in Nba were drafted in 2001(Parker,Pau).Europe hasnt produced anythin but solid starters(Marc Gasol,Deng,Batm) or role players ever since.

Fewer stars, but more solid starters and good role players coming off the bench. And if you look at the last drafts, it was almost European dominated. So, the emergence of European basketball is continuing, it's just not at the star level at the moment.

Use your brain man.

This is what the NBA has done with European talents ever since guys like Pau, Dirk, Parker, ever since they saw that European players might get too much power in the "American game" and they have since then purposely crushed down the European influence.

Look at the facts.

Drafting players like Rubio, Darko, Skita with high lotto picks - players that are not even considered mildly good in Europe.

Then hyping them up to a fever pitch, saying they would be all time greatest NBA players in the case of Rubio and Darko, etc.

Then you have the NBA purposely bringing in players like Jerebko, Casspi, nothing more than role players in Europe and making them NBA starters/6th men...........

What does the NBA do with bonafide Euroleague elite players in the same times?

Spanoulis = forced to sit on the bench by his coach

Navarro = forced to take a back seat to terrible players because they "wanted the youth to play"

Papaloukas = not given anything near a fair contract offer.

Siska = same as Papaloukas

Jasikevicius = given his fair place with the Pacers, but then benched for no reason by Golden State.

The NBA markets these players as "Euro stars that just are not good enough to play in the NBA".

Meanwhile, American players that were in Euroleague get marketed as "Euroleague superstars", come to the NBA and instantly get their roles and playing time, even yes, during NBA broadcasts are called "Euroleague legends".

In this list are such "Euroleague legends" as Gary Neal, Lynn Greer, Will Bynum, Charlie Bell, etc., etc. - strangely enough these guys get plenty of playing time, even if they play way worse than the European guys did.

And then of course the most obvious one of all. The fact that now the NBA is every single year drafting guys that will never even be decent players in Europe, drafting them every year, and at the same time, choosing not to draft dozens of guys that will be good players from Europe.

And how do they talk during the NBA draft? "Every one of the best players from Europe gets drafted every year." "If they are not one of the best players from Europe, they don't get drafted".

If you can't figure out that this is NBA marketing, and is all planned then there is no hope for you.

Just look at Yao Ming.............as soon as the NBA realized the impact he was having in China, as soon as they realized he was a potentially dominant center and NBA player....................

the NBA began instructing the refs to take him out of games and make him a non-factor. And as it has been said from internal memos that the US senate saw when they investigated the NBA after the Tim Donaghy scandal, the NBA has actually sent out memos internally claiming that they had to stop Yao Ming's impact in the league because, "we cannot allow a Chinese player to dominate against black Americans".

Numbers of players coming to the NBA from Europe increases almost every year taking away spaces for American players in their own domestic league.

GM's and coaches like a lot of these players because of their versatility, a direct consequence of how coaches coach youth players over here.
