A surprisingly solid list. Nice to see that it's not too modern. A nice mix of old and new era players.

Rick Barry's omission is a shame, but there will always be players left out unfairly.

Overall, well done ISH voters.

As an Individual player I dont think Russell was more impactful or valuable then the players I ranked above him.

Why should I rank him higher if he wasn't a better basketball player?

Rings (what Russell is most known for after his legendary Defense and Leadership) are largely a by product of Supporting Casts and Luck.

Its just not objective or logical to use that as the basis of ranking someone higher on an GOAT List.

If we had a Draft I would without thinking take Jordan, Shaq, Wilt, Hakeem, Duncan and Kareem over Russell.
I also think I'd be inclined to take Bird and Magic over him.

Hence he is ranked behind those players.
Russell in todays game would be Hakeem with much worse 0ffense and better Leadership/Intangibles.

Your own criteria:

Playoff production, longevity and intangibles.

That's how you said individual players should be ranked.

Outside of scoring, none of the guys you have above Russell beat him in any of those areas.

Actually they all beat him in Playoff Production by a pretty large margin and some of them have better intangibles.

His longetivity is decent (13 years) but most atleast match him and some (Shaq, Kareem) surpass him.

Since you're capitalizing Playoff Production I'm assuming it's some great made up stat like PER.

Better intangibles than the greatest winner in the history of American team sports?

Yes, championships are a team effort. Ask any Celtic of that era...or any player in the league for that matter...who was the most feared competitior in the game. He led by example, scoring when needed but generally subjugating his own offense for the team concept. His entire Hall of Fame, All Time great, virtually consensus Top 5 player career was built on intangibles.

Beat him in playoff production? Nobody outrebounded him in the post season, unless it was Wilt. Same with blocked shots. Best outlet passer in history, playing in an era when the fast break ruled. Won more in the post season than any other player on your list.

That leaves scoring. The game is more than just scoring.

32Dayz
11-18-2011, 06:21 PM
And the game is more then just defense.

I love Russell but he was not a two way player the way Shaq/Wilt/Kareem/Duncan/Hakeem were.

Maybe he was "significantly" better then Shaq/Duncan/Wilt and Kareem Defensively but not to the same degree they were better then him 0ffensively. Being a great leader can only account for so much and I doubt he was a far better rebounder then the other Bigmen on the list to the point where it would make a legitimate difference in these sort of comparisons.

Lets look at how both Gasol and Kobe performed in the 4 Laker Wins (2010 Finalz)

Kobe
26.5 PPG
10 RPG
3.75 APG
37%FG
2 SPG

Gasol
19 PPG
14 RPG (6 Offensive Rebounds Per Game)
5 APG
46%FG
2.5 BPG

:applause:

Gasol was better then Kobe in 2/4 Series and 12/23 Games in the 2010 Playoffs.
He was also the teams defensive anchor and had better intangibles.
Myself and many others believe he was the best player for LA in the 2010 Playoffs.

Go Away now Pathetic Kobe Stan. :lol

If you adjust for pace his Career RBD% would be around 20% which although would probably be the best of this Era it would only be slightly better then the other bigmen on my list who are ahead of him.

You dont really believe he'd average over 20+ RPG in this Era do you?

Why do you just highlight the games Kobe was better in and ignore the ones Gasol was better in?

Dont you see the ignorance in doing that?

Especially in a series like OKC where Gasol was clearly better in the majority of the 6 games.

Round 1 = Gasol Better
Round 2 = Equal
Round 3 = Kobe Better

I could go back and post the 10-12 Games where Gasol was better then Kobe but I have a life and I am going out now.

Dont you see the ignorance in doing that?

Especially in a series like OKC where Gasol was clearly better in the majority of the 6 games.

Gasol was only better in games where the Lakers were blowing out there opponent
for example, games 4-5 vs OKC were blowouts
one or some of the Utah games were blowouts
game 6 of the Finals was a blowout
and thats basically it, and a game or two from just Kobe having an off night
See if you watched the games like I have you would known the context, the games which were blowouts or not

And Kobe played MUCH better after the OKC series when he got his knee drained, numbers after the OKC series:
31.2 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 5.9 APG, 1.4 SPG, .471 FG%

lol at Gasol being near that, those are numbers of a top 10 player of alltime

You can change the retarded ways of yourself and start riding the long bus if you can smarten up

Your just being biased.

Gasol was the best player in the OKC Series and Equally as good in the Utah series.
If not for his play in those series the Lakers dont advance in either series.

Gasol was also better in the 4 Finalz wins most of which were very close games.
Kobe shot an abysmal 37% in the 4 Finalz wins.

Your world is viewed through Kobe colored glasses so you choose to ignore these facts.

:facepalm

How Kobe is "clearly" better then Gasol when he was worse in Round 1, Equal in Round 2 and (imo) worse in the Finalz is beyond me.

LeBron is now at #13.

One more ring and a Finals MVP, he's easily at #9.

This was done a year ago before LeBron got his ring and after Dirk beat LeBron.

While I probably would've voted for LeBron in the 20-25 range last year, even after he had lost in the Finals, let's not act like it was some huge travesty he wasn't in the top 25 at the time. Do this again now, and he'd be somewhere in the 11-20 range.

I would like to do it again, this time go further than 25. But it is L.Kizzle's idea that he thought of in 2007 (At the time I made this I didn't know this since I couldn't find his top 100 thread on the search feature at the time)

Lebron and Moses belong at 11/12 behind Hakeem... 12 (behind Moses) is as far you can with ridicilously good debate take Lebron back right now, 13 maybe if you think Oscar Robertsons triple double average season is enough to overcome all those mvps, fmvp and so on which Lebron (and Moses) have over him...

Award:.........................Moses.............. ...Lebron.........
MVP................................3.............. ..........3.............
FMVP...............................1.............. ..........1............
CHAMP.............................1............... .........1 (a greater championship run mind you)
ROTY..............................No.............. ........Yes.............
DPOY..............................No.............. ........No.............
1st All-NBA.......................4....................... .6..............
1st All-Def........................1...................... ..4..............
NBA All-Star.....................12....................... 8..............
All-Star MVP......................0........................ 2..............
Olympic Gold.....................0........................ 2..............
POTM................................4............. ..........20............
Was best in the NBA?.......Never....................Yes........... .

He belongs there right next to Moses, nowhere else... if you feel like knocking Lebron out of your #11-#12 spot then make sure Moses is right next to him :P

Putting POTM is bullshit on your part. That award shouldn't be used when comparing players, since they used to only give out 1 per month, as opposed to now when they put out 2 per month (1 for each conference).

Lebron was always the better player between the east west months though
