View Full Version : Tyson Chandler asking for over $20 million per year

According to CNN.

Maybe he's joking around, I don't know. Or maybe he thinks NBA owners and GMs are complete idiots who will throw ridiculous contracts at any role-player who has a good season, even after making a whole bunch of noise about players being overpaid and contracts being too long a huge and guaranteed even when the player inevitably takes a vacation until his next contract year, to the point of making it one of their main arguments during a ****ing lockout. OK, ridiculous free agent signings after a championship have happened in the past... many, many times. But again, wasn't a huge part of this lockout the owners saying they no longer wanted to hand out huge contracts to non-all-stars just to be competitive?

Even taking into account how many players have been overpaid in the past after contributing to champeenship run, Chandler is ****in DREAMING if he thinks he's getting that much. DREEEEEAAAAAAMING. Don't get me wrong, he'll get overpaid, but come on, Chandler is a good defensive role-player who can throw down an alley-oop or two, he's not even close to being a franchise player, he may as well be asking for $50 million a year.

According to sources, Nene, Chandler and Gasol all set their early asking prices in the neighborhood of maximum-contract territory, starting at $14.8 million for Gasol, $17.7 annually for Nene, and $20.7 million for Chandler.

Only idiots would give them so much money. They are worth little more than a half of that and only because there aren't any good centers in the league today.

lol....

hes the kind of guy that puts a good team over the top, like dallas, okc, miami, bos, but certainly not worth that much.

Does anybody else find it funny that the salaries asked for are in opposite order based on talent? Gasol >>> Nene > Chandler

new cba only allows maximum contracts to start around 13-14 mil if that player goes to a new team...

so my question is

what are they smoking, must be some good stuff

Chandler is just trying to squeeze every last penny he can get out of Cuban, it's called negotiating. Both Chandler and Cuban know that he isn't going anywhere though.

$20.7 million for Chandler.

Sounds about right. Over 4 years to. I mean, it is only fair! Come on, Wade should be making 50 million already! It is about time the players got paid, none of this chumps change they been collecting up to this point. How they have been putting up with this shenanigans from the owners is beyond me, I think we should blame that washed up star Michael Jordan for it. What did HE ever do to the NBA? Metta World Peace knows whats up!

I'd think someone negotiating would give a realistic offer. Asking 21m is just downright disrespectful. That's like the players starting the lockout with an 80-20 demand on revenue.

To be fair this does not reflect current statistics. But he would still be requesting a million dollars per point, rebound, or block.

The numbers are similar but the impact between Tyson and Perkins is a lot different.

Chandler can get alley oops. Chandler can defend pick and rolls. Chandler is way more athletic (hence jumping jack d and o). Chandler has knees.

Perk was the second-most important defensive player on the last two Celtic finals teams. Chandler's athletic advantage is huge but Perk was still very effective on D. He brings more toughness and physicality and in spite of Chandler's superior athleticism their career block numbers are similar. Chandler is more talented but it hasn't been reflected in his actual impact.

Because the things Chandler does isn't in the numbers. Chandler has the ability to guard pick and roll situations... jump out to 20 feet, and still have the speed t o get back in the lane and cover his man. He has the ability to jump and deflect a shot and jump again and grab it. Or on offense tip the rebound the same way.

Perk was impactful for Boston. Not so much for OKC. Switch out Perk and Chandler for those two teams last WCFs... and OKC wins going away.

But Chandler IS NOT worth 20 million.

Perk's impact isn't about stats either. Last playoff he was out of shape coming off an acl tear. What he did for the Celtics was definitely on par with Chandler's role in Dallas.

apparently, people don't understand the concept of "negotiation".

You always ask for a higher amount than what you're really going to get.

and some of you guys were trying to be lockout negotiation pros. Just laughable.

OK then, compare Chandler's impact and salary demands to the impact and current salary of someone like Bogut.

All players are going to ask for larger contracts that put them more inline with the market. They probably won't get it but teams will be more ready to give these types of contracts sine they are on the hook for less. The numbers seem bigger but they are smaller than before

This is really increadible. Much more increadible he, Gasol and Nene are asking for that much money after the lockout. But what will be even more interesting is that I am sure that one idiot will pay the money they demand. There are 30 teams and one of their gm's or owners will be stupid enough to pay for the contract. Even though aren't they the same owners and the gm's that they hire to pay the ridicoulous contracts in the past and locking out the whole league to not to pay?
