Vince Carter isn't a free agent yet, but sources close to the situation say the eight-time All-Star will be thrust onto the open market shortly after the end of the lockout.
Based on an amendment in his contract obtained by ESPN.com, Carter must be waived by the Phoenix Suns within 72 hours of the official start of free agency or his $18 million salary for the 2011-12 season becomes fully guaranteed.
The Suns, sources said, have already decided to waive Carter within that window.
...
Chicago, Miami and San Antonio are expected to be among the teams interested in signing Carter, 34, once he clears waivers and becomes an unrestricted free agent.

He'd be a great addition to the Bulls.

He's slower now but can still shoot and is athletic enough in spurts to make big plays or play some defense.
Still he carry's some "loser" voodoo with him so I wouldn't sign him.

Stay mad loser.

Bring him to San Antonio.. he'd thrive under our system of drive in/kickouts... and Timmy would be finding him all day.

Yep. Did any of the other posters see him play last year?
Done. Nothing but a role player who won't accept that role.
Interesting that most ISH posters have a hardon against players from an older era, but seem to think old guys from the recent era can play forever.

Where's Nene, Oden, Chandler, Nash, Prince, Paul, D-Will, E.Curry, M.Miller, T-Mac, Butler, J.Howard...???
I'd welcome him in Chicago, although he wouldn't be my first choice. Probably not second or third either, but he would help if he meshed well with everyone.

Why would the Spurs want Carter? That makes no sense. He's a very me-first type of guy, and all their other players are team first guys.

they havent moved parker, so it looks like they still think they can contend, and they probably need to mix it up a bit, get something to get them over the top.
sort of like the billups-iverson deal from detroit's perspective.

He'll probably want full MLE over a long contract.
Would San Antonio or Miami want to give him that? Debateable.
Would Chicago do it? More likely, since they aren't looking to make big changes via free agency.

saw a few games. pretty sure he can still shoot. Lakers need spacing and another playmaker.

Teams that want to win it all should never take Carter. Him and his cousin McGrady are cursed.

I guess that makes sense. He does occasionally and rarely have a decent game but to me, it's a terrible idea.

The Heat would do better getting a D-leaguer over T-Mac at this point in his career.

i doubt it works too, but its their last roll of the dice with this group, they need to take a gamble like this to get back into contention.

I'm in full-fledged aging Vince Carter denial. I don't think I'm that much different from Tracy McGrady fans at the moment, except they may have more to hope for. I keep hoping Vince secretly regained full health in the off-season and got some of his bounce back. I think I'm just dreaming though.

People keep saying that he is washed up and.. did you see him last season. How bad could he be for a title contender like the Bulls? 4th 5th option on offense. whats the big deal? He probably wont be getting paid a lot...

Anything more than the deal Shaq got from Boston and you're overpaying. Vince can't be anything more than a luxury for your team at this point.
People keep saying that he is washed up and.. did you see him last season.
Yes. He wasn't a better option than Jared Dudley.
He's not a starter on a title contender.

There is probably some younger, better options IMO.

I saw you post this in response to someone saying he should go to the Heat.
What's the (age) difference in him going to Chicago (which alot of peeps want) than Miami?
Chicago's the younger team and seem to be favored IF they can get a SG of Vince's caliber.
Seems to me the same could be said about him going to the Bulls, too (the bandwagon reference) :confusedshrug: .
I think at this stage of his career he's better off going to which ever team gives him the best chance for a ring.

Had high hopes for him two years ago in the playoffs. Was excited to see PP head to head with VC, two of my favorite swingmen.
Instead, VC gave the choker performance of a lifetime. He's only a good shooter now, anything else you get is a bonus and you shouldn't rely on.
Is he better on the Bulls vs. Bogans who can now shoot the three and at least defend his position well?

May have been the Steve Nash effect. Nash makes everyone look better.

If you can get him on a 2 year deal (1 year guaranteed), then teams like the Bulls don't have a whole lot to lose. They're not winning without him, so they may as well take a chance and hope he's somehow the missing ingredient that gets them to the Finals.

12-05-2011, 01:28 AM
bulls have better options. i don't even remember why this guy was starting over dudley at the start of last season. he was taking horrible shots and he plays awful, lazy defense. can you imagine him and boozer together? how about his poor clutch and general bad free throw shooting? oh and he's terrible at the pick n' roll. on good teams, VC can hurt you with his bad play. we're not talking about 08-09 VC anymore.

In b4 Boston retirement home, but I think he could do well playing 2nd string SG to Allen. Carter can still score.
