I don't care who the hell we acquire as long as we have cap space for Dwight Howard or at least Kevin Love in 2012.

What actually happened was that Orlando used the CP3 trade to threaten Dallas, saying if they did not give very appealing offer, they will send Dwight to LA. Pretty much screwing Dallas out of Finals chances again with Dirk.

Makes sense of D12 and CP3 have worked this out possibly. If Howard does somehow end up in LA

In the immediate future, they have Kobe and some solid players, they can seriously contend for the championship this season and seasons to come.

Going forward CP3 and D12 will be the main guys at the Lakers (If not already), those guys will command the top dollar more so than Kobe, and the Lakers won't be held hostage by Kobe, knowing the D12 and CP3 are their future. Kobe will be the veteran and can be a fantastic 3rd option even in the twilight of his career.

Then post Kobe, D12 and CP3 is such a formiddable combo, with the draw card that is LA, who wouldn't want to go and be a part in what would probably be a team with a few championships behind them.

I know it's a lot of what if's.... but the potential is undeniable.
