Yeah he does look thinner. You can definitely see some definition in his face. Getting the weight off was one hurdle. Let's see if he can keep it off and stay in shape. If he does, he will definitely help. Although, I wonder if they will use him for rebounding and defense or actually give him room to operate in the post....

He's in shape at least. Still has to show that he can defend and rebound. Is this getting in shape because he just wants an NBA check or does he seriously have a desire to play basketball?

Also, even in Curry's prime, he was barely a mediocre rebounder and defender. In his best year he got 7 RPG in 35.2 MPG.

It's obviously a good signing because it's low-risk, high-reward. That said, I have my doubts.

People can make fun of Eddy Curry all they want, but personally I'd like him to work his ass off, loss weight and be somewhat good of how he was during his early tenure with the Knicks. The lack of decent centers in the league is atrocious. And right before he got "I gave my only gravity pull" fat he was actually decent.

You excited about a garbage Center to add to your garbage players that the heat surround the team with? Joel Anthony is better than his big A**. He claims he lost 70 pounds but wont tell the media how much his weight is currently. Every single player the heat sign will simply die because the offense goes through LeChoke and Dwade. Chris bosh isnt included in the big 3, its now 2.5 You should feel bad about this pick up for the heat. :facepalm

What does everyone think Curry's best could be this season?

Obviously the worst is he falls into his old tricks, gets lazy and complacent, doesn't stay fit and basically is a non event in Miami, experiment over.

On the flip side, what's the most Curry could achieve? Starter? 15-20mins a night as a back up to Anthony?

In offensive they arn't going to play through him, or feed him the ball that much, though he did have 20 and 7 season back 06/07. He was capable of scoring when required to.

I think if Curry plays 15-20mins, and can come in an impact with maybe 8-10 points, 5-7 rebounds. Clog the paint and not be a liability on defence. That would be a resonable return for the Heat. Thoughts?

Curry was actually a very good M2M Defender.

People forget he is a very good athlete and ridiculously strong.

His issue was always stamina/effort + conditioning.

If he fixes those issues I see no reason he cant be good defensively in short spurts.

He would be good defending bigger centers like Dwight or Yao.

this guy took like 6 years in the league before getting motivated by Isiah commanding the entire roster to force feed Curry the ball every single posession. After 82 games of feeling the pride of being a #1 option, it only took july and august to undo it all. Enjoy...

If he's in shape, I have no doubt he'll score some buckets for you guys. Considering how weak the center position is. He's deceptively smooth in the post. But at the other end, jesus christ, you might as well just give the guy a small chair near the photographers so he can get ready for the next posession.

1. Curry lost the weight before. The season before D'Antoni got here, he lost a ton of weight. Unfortunately, he got hurt in training camp. Its not just the weight anymore, he is an injury prone player. I'll be surprised if he survivies the 3 weeks of the preseason.

2. Sure he can try on defense and rebounding (anyone can try, I'd try too, but I don't defend and rebound on an NBA level, neither does he). Curry really only has 1 NBA-level skill and its scoring on the block--and lets not exaggerate, he's not some unstoppable monster at it, at his very best, when the whole offense was geared around him getting shots on the low-block, he grazed 20ppg (think he averaged 19+).

3. The biggest problem with him having one NBA-skill, even if it was a good and useful one, is that his basketball instincts were awful. Once the double-teaming would start, and he'd get confused. Start forcing things, throwing balls away. Plus as a turnstile on defense and under the rim, you are giving up a ton of points/bds for the 19ppg he gets you.

Think of him like a designated 3-pt. shooter. Can't have him on the floor too much because of what he gives up, but for some situations, he may be useful.

So assuming he is fully healthy and engaged, (which is alot to ask of an older past-his-prime, injury prone big-man) the most you can get out of him is 5-10 minutes per half to change the pace of the game, and get the opposing center in foul trouble - maybe.
