The point is the Rockets are trading away their 1st, 2nd, and most likely 3rd options along with maybe a pick or two for an all-star type player on the back end of his career who is a 2nd option at best. He's not going to be happy and neither are they, unless they plan on flipping him to a contending team.

I'm not trying to downplay Gasol, who's one of my favorite players on the team, but the cold hard reality is that he's a 2nd option who doesn't sell tickets. He's not going to win a bunch of games by himself and all this does it put Houston in that shitty spot where they're just good enough... they won't be competing and they won't be in the lottery, or at least in the top 10.
