View Full Version : Has anyone ever fainted from exhaustion?

About 3 hours ago I was sitting on my couch when my chest started to hurt. This has happened before and it usually goes away in a minute. This time it felt worse though. I started to panic and asked someone to call an ambulance. Then I stood up and started to walk when this ringing started in my ear. As I got close to the kitchen things go black. I wake up with a bunch of people standing around me telling me not to move. Some yells, "He's dying". That's when I got scared.
The ambulance comes and takes me to the hospital. They do all these tests and find everything is normal. In the past couple days all I've had was coffee, 7-eleven nachos, a Dr. Pepper, and two Pepsi's. The doctor said the stress from finals week and my poor diet caused this. He said I need to start sleeping and eating.
Now my question is has anyone else fainted from exhaustion and had similar symptoms before fainting? I feel much better after eating but it's still scary. I know this isn't the best place to ask but I'm interested in reading if anyone else had a similar problem. This is easily on of the most terrifying things to happen to me. After just reading about Aldridge's heart problem too.

I don't see how ISH could help you anymore than the doctor you just saw. You could pass out (only pansies faint my guy) for a myriad of reasons.

Yes, thanks for reminding me off how weak I am. I don't want an expert medical opinion. I just want to see if anyone has had something similar happen to them. I'd like to hear about it.
By the way thanks for the advice Bucket Nakedz. I will definitely do that.

I feinted once getting out of a hot tub. Apparently I was in there too long and got up too quickly. Smashed my face hard on the tile floor. Bruised my cheekbone, and hurt my ankle and shoulder as well.
Not pleasant.

My bad man I wasn't trying to say you are weak, even strong people can pass out, I was just making a joke about your rhetoric. I admit, it wasn't the best joke esp. considering your condition so I apologize.
I've never fainted or been knocked out so I don't have too much to tell you other than drink lots of water, take a multi-vitamin, and get lots of rest. Try to listen to calming music, stay away from drama and loud friends for awhile, and try to relax. Maybe try some calming teas.
Most of all try to find a piece of mind as it pertains to where you are right now in life.
Know that you're a good guy no matter what and you can get over any obstacle that you encounter.
I'm pulling for you.

Are you on adderral or something? That doesn't sound like very much food.
I don't understand why people get stressed over Finals. I mean all you're doing is taking a test... you aren't going to die either way. Just study and you'll be fine.

Your body needs food (preferably nutritious food to function) and it needs sleep to recharge.
Poor sleeping habits can cause a variety of health problems including getting fat.
The body can go for a while without sleep....this is intended for extreme situations, i.e. you're a solider in a battle and you can't let the enemy creep up on you. But after a while your body will just force you to sleep. This is why sleep deprivation is used as a form or torture.
Even folks binging on cocaine or meth come down and crash.

And if you're studying hard, your brain is working and using up calories just like exercising

You were probably dehydrated.

This. Sounds like dehydration. Sodas and coffees have tons of caffeine, which dehyrate you. Drink water and gatorade from now on.

I remember in highschool, I had a young male teacher who was unusually pale/yellow, always look tired, and will sometimes even dose off in the middle of class, which is usually a sign of overwork and poor nutrition. For the first week I felt like telling him he should go get a blood test because most likely he had anemia due to iron and other vitamin deficiencies. Than one day he is going back and forth in front of the class teaching some bs algebra, and he just collapses. They took him to the hospital and he was ok but he was unconscious for a good 5 minutes. As everyone else in class either laughed or called for the security, I felt sick right there for not telling him, and I let my young "eh who gives a **** about every1 else" ego interfere with that.
I spoke with him about what happened when he came back the following week and it turns out I was right, he actually needed a blood transfer since his iron intake was dangerously low.
Sometimes I know work or school and be a b1tch, but health is the most important thing. Your friends or family most likely noticed you were not right either, So I am sure they will look out for you know that they see how serious this can be.

used to have constant light headedness/dizzyness for like a year or two straight. there were several times where i felt like i was going to pass out but i never have (thankfully. huge fear of that). and like jtotheizzo, i almost fainted getting out of a hottub once too because i got out too quick. it's basically gone now. i'm pretty sure i was working out too much and not eating enough. i remember one time after a workout i came inside and sat down and literally fell asleep within minutes. no energy, couldn't stay awake, as if i'd been awake for days straight and just crashed. it was way more intense than just being regularly sleepy, i'd never experienced that before. i knew i was only falling asleep not fainting, but it was still scary to know my body was totally drained. your doc was right, eat and sleep. you'd be surprised how much a big meal will energize you when you've hardly been eating. and lots of water.

The first time I fainted was like 2 years ago..
And I only fainted cuz I had a fever... You know what woke me up? I woke up cuz I banged my chin towards the corner of the end table..
and plus, I just finished takin a dump.. and I was on my way to my bed.. I was butt naked cuz I had dookie all over my shorts.. and I was just gonna cover myself with the shorts without wearing it.
Im tellin you, you cant go anywhere when you have a fever... when I fainted, all I could remember was falling and that "Black and white" THING THAT APPEARS ON YOUR TV WHEN YOU DONT HAVE CABLE RECEPTION. --Thats what I saw.
After that, I looked into the mirror and my chin is all busted up...

I come close to fainting quite often when I get up from sitting/lieing down for an extended period. I've never actually blacked out but I get really dizzy and numb.
And yeah my sleep cycle is pretty f*cked as well as my diet (although I'm not overweight).
