Relatively speaking. Obviously at this point Chandler is better, but he is also 29 while DJ is 23.
Jordan has proved that he is just as physically nasty offensively and defensively. And he probably has not reached his peak yet either.
I think he has potential to surpass Ty Chan within several years.
I do have to commend Ty Chan for his 73% FT shooting though.
DJ is on pace to be a better player than Chandler is right now. but now, he is not as good.

he has a lot to work on, but should be just as good as current chandler or better. on offense as of right now he can literally only dunk.

Tyson Chandler was better. Much more of a double-double threat. Although both at this stage were/are more potential than reality.
DJ is the most all around athletic 7 footer in the league, beast.

They are pretty similar players at the same age.
Jordan is a better shot blocker though.

doesnt mean he is as good as Chandler is on defense. I compare Chandler's effect on the Mavs last year to what KG did for the 2008 Celtics' title run.
Chandler's impact on defense was that good.

Dwight and DJ are listed 6'11.
Dwight stronger, faster, quicker and higher leaper IMO.

Dwight has said DJ is there with him athletically. Overall athlete though.. No. He's second.

Your point is correct IMO but I was just making a statement about their development.
29 year old Chandler >>> overall defence than Jordan.
23 yo Chandler <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< 29 year old Chandler.
24 year old Chandler did average 12 boards and 10 points with Hornets.
DeAndre Jordan is 7 feet. I've seen him stand next to Bynum at Staples live, and he's as tall as AB or taller. Dwight is like 6'10, that's why I didn't count him.

Chandler is someone you can depend on to anchor the defense. Don't know if Jordan will ever be that good.

Tyson is, for all the crap that has been said about him throughout his career turned out to be a very smart player. That despite early in his career being considered boneheaded and making dumb fouls. He has great effect on both ends of the floor his last two healthy years he had ridiculous 125 and 131 ORtgs. He is good at setting picks and his threat on the offensive glass keeps big men from helping as much.
DJ is in the same mold, but he is a more incredible athlete. His big problem defensively are fouls, but Tyson had the same issue. His fouls dropped from 5.1 to 3.5 though the year he went to a team that wanted to do something serious with him and they never went back up. I suspect the same thing will happen with DJ.
My guess is DJ with CP will be as good or better than Tyson Chandler was his peak year

Yea he's grown a bit. He's also up to nearly 270 pounds which people don't know.

chandler still needs the ball to be lobbed to him, cant create for himself

true but DJ literally has like no post-up game. he had a total of 29 post up possessions last season. 29. on the whole season. in comparison, griffin had 500+ and scored at a higher rate. chandler had something like 53 and scored .94 points per possession. not a whole lot better at all so i see what you mean...DJ and chandler are not that skilled offensively but i think most of us know where their true impact is. to chandler's credit, he's at least competent at running the pick n roll. jordan is decent at it but pretty one dimensional. if he gets better at spacing/passing, he's right there.
chandler is the better help defender of the two. anyway, can i see DJ reaching chandler's potential one day. certainly...it's not all that close now but he has raw athleticism to compare to him defensively.
overall, quite a lot of of money if deandre doesn't progress much and just catches lobs and blocks shots. but again, the way the big man market is, it's pretty much in line with others. curry will make him look good as well.
Chandler is also a decent free throw shooter, Jordan's average ft% is the worst I've ever seen.

There is a good chance that he might be but as for now Chandler is the superior player. I didn't know Chandler was only 29. He has been playing in the league for almost 10 years now but I guess that is what happens when you come out of high school.

dj is so overrated it's not even funny
big guy who can jump rebound and block shots there's one like him in every draft
to have an impact on defense you need more than that
he and eric gordon are the 2 most overrated players in the nba
clippers would have won more games if they were so good

Not really. At least not yet. We'll see though because we saw Tyson play with Paul and had some of his better years, we'll see how DJ does.

Not even close. DJ has been a HUGE reason Clippers are about to lose in Memphis.

all that dribble penetration conley gets? there'd be a lot less. what makes chandler so nice is his lateral foot speed and ability to go all the way out on the perimeter to guard...well, guards. there's not that many 7 footers that can do that. not even dwight goes out on the perimeter as often as chandler. bynum? still gets torched in P&R and not a good hedger.
chandler could guard gay for stretches and he could outbox gasol sufficiently. he also sets much better picks and is just smarter offensively when it comes to taking angles. oh, he also runs the floor better. thread title is hilarious in retrospect. so in short, this series is probably over in 5 with chandler instead of DJ

All the more shame that he's a mediocre rebounder and w/out an ounce of talent with his back to the basket.
