I watch a lot old bball tapes and players have been doing this for years. Why give the credit to Europe?

no way. ive seen tons of old bball and never seen anyone pull the euro step. its an incredible move straight outta europe.
the first player to really do it in the NBA, mostly on accident and pure athleticism, was iverson. since then, wade has mastered it and so have other players.

Watching 87 Dominique Wilkins and he has done it twice in this one game. They called it a "stagger step."

I'm sure it was done long before the NBA was founded. What matters is that it was popularized by European players, and players who were mimicking European players.

:applause: Wasn't Sarunas the first to be credited for using the Euro-step? I am sure this move has been around for awhile. I just know that Manu made it popular.

Yeah that was a travel at start, which was the pivot foot was obvious though, but he moved it. Euro step was later on another defender anyways.

Yep, clearly the move has evolved over time, but it can be seen at the 3:15 mark in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLWGRDjuAIw
because manu made it popular.
I think that's the essence of it, and I'm okay with that. I know I'd seen it done in the past, but Manu Ginobili is the one who made me take notice of the move and its potential. I use it all the time thanks to that fellow.

He didn't drag out his first step much but that definately is the principles of a Eurostep which is a change of direction manuever.

Argentina step. Arg step? Tina step?
It's like how people blame Euros for popularizing flopping like fish even though it's been going on in the NBA for a long time. There's a video of Auerbach moaning about it back in the '70s. Or you hear announcers talk about how a player was "acting" or "giving a good performance" for the ref.

Bingo.
I was watching the world championships of team handball and notice a lot of the same footwork in this sport looks like what the basketball players do with the euro step.
Handball is popular throughout europe and many players from this sport crossed over to basketball and use some of the footwork from their previous sport. That's my guess at least.
